Evolution
You long time m4 owners, do you run yours with that little O ring? I was cleaning mine after a second range session and noticed that the thing was kinda frayed. So I called CS and the guy is gonna mail me a new one but said that it really isn't necessary once the bolt is installed in the receiver because it can't come out at that point. Indeed, the spring pressure from the FP does help retain the pin in the bolt when the bolt assembly is removed. I tried tapping the bolt against my bench without the O ring and it didn't move. So, what do you think? Have any of you had to replace yours? I'm guessing that many of you have. I'm not so sure that it's absolutely needed. What's the consensus? BLACK
It is not needed. The O-ring keeps the pin in place while the bolt assembly is out of the gun; it is not necessary when assembled. Most of the O-rings are frayed and will last a long long time.
Evolution
Yeah, LOL..can you imagine keeping after that little thing in a combat situation? I'll bet most of them go missing after a very short while in theater.
