I just bought a stoeger 2000 turkey, and there was no owners manual in the box. My question is can you shoot hevi-shot out of the factory turkey choke. Thanks in advance for the help.

stick,

I am looking at the manual for the Stoeger 2000 right now and it doesn't specify if you can use hevi-shot. It only mentions steel and lead. You can use steel in the Modified (3-notches), Imp. Cylinder (4 notches), and Cylinder bore (5 notches). You CAN NOT use steel in any of the other two. It would be wise to post a question to Stoeger on the hevi-shot.

after being on hold with customer service for 45min, I was told that they don't know if it would be all right to shoot hevi-shot through their tubes. But that I probably should not try it.

let me try that again. i've shot numerous turkeys with my stoeger 2000 using hevishot. i use an h.s. strut aftermarket choke and get awesome results (and their chokes are very inexpensive to try out--around $20). i've also shot a ton of waterfowl with steel shot through the factory modified tube with never a problem and very good patterns.

tungsten is hard but brittle. one or 2 shots through a choke a season should be ok. just don't go shhot a round of clays or duck hunt with it.

for 20ish you can pick upa cheep hevi shot tube.

honestly i can see no differenc except it's .01" more open. .675 vs. .665 in the model i like
