Nate23
I've recently won a Benelli Nova with a 24" barrel at a recent DU banquet. Now I want to use it as my turkey gun. I am looking to mount a red dot on top of it, but after talking with my local gunsmith, I am having reservations. He said that the heavy turkey loads would shred and/or stip the screws if I mounted a weaver style base. Has anyone ever had this problem? I am pretty sure I read an article (I think by Clark) that stated some users also JB weld the base to their receiver. I don't know if I want to take it that far, so I am just looking to see if anyone has ever had their screws strip out on them from the recoil of turkey loads. Thanks, Nate
sonyman74
Use a B Square mount or similar.
tucker301
There is no way that turkey loads would do this if the base is mounted properly. DO NOT JB Weld the base to the receiver! Use a quality base and screws. Use BLUE loctite on the screws and torque them to 28-30 in. lbs. These bases and screws go on 300 win.magnum and larger rifles. That gunsmith's an idiot. Find another one.
