I have a 2021 M1014. As I’ve never previously handled any other M4s, I don’t have a frame of reference. My Franchi Affinity and M2 were much smoother when new (even more so now). I guess I’d say my M1014 is “smooth enough”, definitely doesn’t feel gritty.1 point

My opinion is take your money elsewhere. FFT doesn't do returns and is often the most expensive option compared to other places. If you run into problems with his custom parts its very difficult to get things resolved. There's like a bajillion disclaimers on every page stating with very anti-consumer messaging. Just some examples of the super scalping there:
