  1. Which one is more reliable, better, ect. please give me our opinions on what you think. thanks

Opinions were asked for. Opinions were provided :)

    Pretty simple process :D

  2. I'm using the improved cylinder that came with the Vinci. Does anyone have any experience with Carlson's black cloud choke?

I need something to pattern well, fan out, because I need all the help I can get :-)

    anyone?

    thanks

    Jack

The Carlson BC choke is marketed with two key features; it is shaped specifically for the BC wad and therefore is claimed to throw a more even pattern, and it is treated with a special coating to prevent excess fouling from the special BC wad.

You can choose to believe Carlson or not :)

I've shot a ton of BC, and I use an extended IC choke of various brands. You might be just fine with your factory IC & BC.

I'd e-mail Carlson and ask about their BC choke in your Vinci. They are a pretty solid company and will probably give you an informational reply. I've bought maybe a dozen chokes from them over the years with zero complaints.

  3. If it has the new sheet metal ejector plate, you should be fine :)

10 years ago is close to when they changed the design from the hockey stick that can break often, to the flat sheet metal type that still can break, but less often.

Also, watch out for a rusted or just dirty recoil spring. Many folks never properly clean their guns and end up with gummed up springs and guns that don't cycle reliably. Learn how to clean the SBE recoil assembly properly.

All of my SBE's have liked extended chokes from Briley, Carlson, Primos, etc. in Mod, LM, IC, etc. If I had to pick one for ducks and geese, it would be just about any decent brand in Mod.

  4. If you don't want to spend 100 bucks on a choke, try going with the jellyhead choke. Indian creek chokes are great but there are good chokes out there for less.

Absolutely! The Primos Jellyhead was my choke of choice for years in my SBE II. Worked well with Winchester XR #6's. Money well spent for around $40.

The Indian Creek choke matches up better with the EM H-13 #6's in my opinion.

You might want to drop a dime and call Stuart and/or Mike at Indian Creek and ask them what they would recommend for your SBE II :)

  5. Mudhen, Thanks, exactly what I was looking for. :) I take it that I need to use the matching locking plate with the chosen shim?

Yep, and the letter on the plate should be facing the pad end of the stock (pretty sure :)).

  6. just wanted to ask if anyone has any idea why there are no ducks in that area?

Because it's November and you were at Wister!

Aside from some local ducks and the usual early migrators, Wister is usually not that good until later in the season.

The geese are just showing up in force up here in the north valley, which is 500+ miles from Wister. Many of the ducks are still far behind.

Personally, I think this is going to be a slow season unless we get storms and rain to move the birds around. It's still bone dry up here, and the fields are barely flooded in some areas.

I get a few birds though!

It's a long season out here, it will just keep getting better and better right up to the close on January 31st, 2010......

  7. Interested in removing the plug from my SBE II. I tried to pick up a C-Clamp Tool to unscrew the piece from the end of the tube, but wasn't the right size. Can someone point me in the right direction to finds the correct tool. Want to pick one up so I can put it back in if I travel to other states that have a 3 shell law. Thanks

I've been using the screwdriver method for years without much problem. Only a few flying springs :D

As to removing and replacing the plug, I just tap down the ring and put the plug on top for easy removal and replacement. No problem with Mr. Greenjeans, because the gun still needs to be disassembled in order to access the plug.

But that $20 tool is pretty cool too :)

  8. you think $1350 (not including tax) is a good price for a 26" Vinci camo (max 4)....???

    thanks!

They are $1260 on-line, but there may be costs added on for shipping. It may be easier to buy at a local shop and have the chance to inspect the gun you are buying.

    $1350 sounds ok though :)

  9. 3.5" is totally unnecessary... I've read that it only came out because of the lead ban in waterfowl hunting. And with tungsten and other modern non toxic shells, a 3" is just as good...

also, I've also heard that benelli has no plans to release a 3.5" Vinci...

I myself think that people have been killing all kinds of birds/deer fine way before the 3.5" came out... for me, it's a marketing gimmic..

I plan on buying one next week actually... and with the 300 dollars I save from not buying a SBE II, I'm gonna buy a 10 gauge cheapo shotgun for those cases where I think I MIGHT need a stronger gun... but that's slim to none...

besides, 3.5" shells are 30% more expensive... marketing scam.... not to mention the kick is horrible...

I shoot 3.5" mostly at turkeys. I prefer the extra pellet count and have no issue with the recoil. The patterning boards don't lie, the 3.5" can be far superior to 3" with the right choke and load combination.

I love 3" Matrix and shot cases of it when I could get it at $14/10 pack. Now at $40-$50+/10 pack, I have decided to use other less expensive shells.

No less than three Benelli dealers have told me that the 3.5" Vinci will be out sometime in 2010 :) I guess we will just have to wait and see.....

I can't say anymore because I don't want to upset any of the thin skinned members of this board :D

  10. hey thanks for the help guys, anybody know the CS number direct?

Hey, I'm pretty sure I can spare the factory Mod from my SBE II. I've haven't fired a shot from a factory tube in many years, see no reason to let it sit in a box if someone needs it.

PM me with your mailing address and I'll get it out next week (if I can find it, which I'm 99% sure I can).

  11. It would actually be "Everyone should by an M2000!"

I don't sand behind them, but I am not an owner of one either, so I don't throw opinions around.

You worked in and around gun shops for over 10 years?...What as the plumber?

Should be 'stand' behind them maybe

And yes, I did once have to take the plunger to the shop toilet once, it was clogged with tyson129 :D

  12. What does the LS+plate change to the LOP? I have short arms and the 14" pad works great for me.

I just read your post form '06 about the pad. Sounds like there is no good alternative to the Benelli one yet.

The adapter plate goes inside the stock and does not add anything to the LOP. The screws draw the plate tight.

The pad works great once on, that's not the issue, it's just a hassle to take on and off for cleaning and/or drying off, and the adapter is plastic and can't take too many of these on & offs before the screw holes are stripped out....

  13. Edit, how does a limbsaver fit on the SBEII? I haven't taken the pad on my SBEII off in a while, but I don't remember any places for screws inside of it.

With an annoying adapter plate

I like the slip fit pad, so the Sims is of little use to me....

  14. You can always tell those guys in NE that if they want premium hunting land that is highly managed with millions of yards of premium gravel our land is on the market for slightly over 10 million. That would allow the two of them to hunt year round and make a few million if they chose to sell the gravel. All legal papers and property details are available for serious inquires only!

That's a lot of gravel! We've got some gravel on our farms in NoDak near the river, but there is not much demand right now....

  15.

    Great story!

Since we have been discussing turkey stuff so much lately.

Earl Groves - 81 years old - bags 558th tom turkey. 28 states + Mexico, New Zealand, Guatemala. Big NWTF board member too.

Saw the article in Cabela's Outfitter Journal, but I could only find this link:

    http://cjonline.com/sports/outdoors/2009-05-03/his_name_is_earl

558 adult toms is amazing to me, especially since he started in 1958 when many areas had almost NO turkeys!

    WTG Earl!

  16. aren't you being a bit of a cynic there mudhen? I've seen M2000's work just fine and my I-12 doesn't really give me problems? I'm just a kid who couldn't afford a $1300 gun, but I saved up and bought what i thought was good.

If there are people on here looking for advice about guns and purchasing one, I understand not preferring a gun, but your last post doesn't help at all. If you really think those guns are that bad, I would honestly be interested in hearing what you have to say...

Working in and around gun shops for the past 10+ years or so has certainly turned me sour on the M2000 and I-12. My local shop got back the entire first shipment of I-12's they sold. I've heard they did some tweaking to newer models, but I give that a big 'so what'.

I've just seen so many M2000's and I-12's returned by customers, and the fights that ensue when the customer is told he has to send his new gun back, often several times, is just not worth the emotional trauma that results.

And let me tell you, these guns don't break in the summertime at the trap range, they break in the blind, on a guided hunt, on X-mas Day, during the biggest stormy day of the year, they always 'ruin the hunt', made Timmy cry, etc.

Same can be said for most Mossturd products. I once saw a grown man try to move a Coke machine, the glass door fridge model, much like Chief Dan George picks up the shower machine in Cuckoo's Nest, because he was so irate over his defective 935. The guy was a regional manager for Coke, and was so mad at the shop, he said he was taking the Coke machine with him.

There are plenty of other shotgun fish in the sea, but the poster didn't ask about them, he asked about the M2000 and the I-12, both of which I feel are of poor quality and poor fit and function. If he had asked about other models, I would have suggested maybe a BPS, a Wal-Mart Beretta 390 series gun, maybe an 870 Wingmaster, used Benelli M1, etc.

I have seen many of each fail in the field, and seen many returned at shops, so that is what I base my opinion on.

Also, please note, our regional Benelli USA rep says the M2000 is the least complained about model in their line-up. The SBE II is the most complained about. Think about that for a minute. When asked why, he said "that's easy, cheap products are usually accepted for what they are, while expensive product are held to a higher standard". Also he said the sales numbers were overwhelmingly in favor of the SBE II, which logically leads to more complaints. Look at the post on the main page from the guy who is ranting over a little peeled film in his SBE II :D

    Sorry, just sharing my experiences.....
