Would be very interested to hear why you prefer the SBE 1.

There are numerous reasons really. Some of the ComforTech stocks kind of break down after a while. I don't need/want it anyway. I don't really hunt geese anymore. When I used to travel to Canada and we would shoot boxes and boxes of 3.5" shells at high angles, it might have been nice. The amount of 3.5" I shoot now, I can handle it. I believe SBE1 is slightly lighter than later models (feels like it to me anyway). Contrary to popular opinion, I prefer the "low rib" of the original HK imports, plus those can do ghost loading if you are into such things. I also like the older bolt handle and round safety button but I'd guess those can be changed for a similar style.

The only things I do not like about the older ones versus the newest one is the "Benelli Thumb" issue has improved. Not as much as aftermarket options have, but still better. However, that is only one thing you will do once if you are a hunter. But, if you shoot 3 gun or similar fast load competition, you WILL do it. I guess the other thing is they no longer make the low rib barrels and SBE1 barrels are quite hard to come by. One can use SBEII barrels on the SBE1, but they have the taller rib, and they have a longer recoil lug which requires modifying the forearm (or buying a factory modded one). If you aren't familiar with the difference, you can see the differences on my pictures below. This is a pair of HK SBE's and a complete barrel set of low rib barrels and most of the SBE II high rib's.

I also have an M1T, a pair of M3T Folders's, and a pair of M4's including the 11711 H20 model and also a 20 gauge Montefeltro. I've shot many of the others (lightweight, M2, 828U, and did own an SBE II and III. I think most people will love any Benelli they choose.

  2. I was going to suggest looking for an older, used Benelli SBE. Until I started collecting Benelli's, I only had a SBE that I bought in ~1994. Even after I started buying other models, I still preferred the original SBE over II and III (yes I owned and shot them too).

  3. I would think some of the bigger Cerakote coating places have done these before. Might be able to send it to one of those instead. Or, if you prefer someone local, can you lend them a part for them to color match? Some of the bigger, more advanced paint stores have this device that you place something in and it shines lights on it in various wavelengths and fairly quickly comes up with the numeric paint color. I don't know if that would work for a coating or not.

  4. Yeah, I agree with sniiped. Most likely a person would just buy the other stock instead of neutering an original. Speaking of that, have you checked to see if your recoil tube has the necessary indentions on it for the collapsible stock to lock in to? If it doesn't have them, you'll want to shop for one of those as well. Depending on the other features of your gun, it would perhaps be prudent to look at 922r components to install to keep in compliance.

  5. Congrats on your new M3 and welcome to the forum. Though it is not as popular as the newer M4 it is a neat shotgun with its somewhat unique semi auto / pump capabilities. There may be others, but off the top of my head, only the Franchi SPAS-12 and SPAS-15 shotguns offered this feature.

I haven't handled the newer re-runs, but I have a pair of older H&K import M3T folders that I really like. I don't know how many parts differ between those original release and the newer release starting ~5-7 years ago, but I read somewhere on here that the mag tube isn't the same between the early 90's imports versus the new ones. However, I think your newer one should take the tube you ordered so you should be good. Also, someone on these forums posted that a collapsible stock from M4 will fit and work though the lines aren't quite identical.

The M3T folders are a little different and can't be fully functional as an "add-on" stock. The folding portion locks into the rear sight and if memory serves, the location is slightly different on these.

  6. I'd also be interested in trading a short barrel for a field barrel. It looks nearly new and still has the original box and packaging. It is a very early example. I posted it on another thread here as well. I'd repost this and the above but I don't have my thumbdrive handy.

  7. You probably know Capt.Matt, but you can use a M2 field barrel on the M1. It will require a slight lengthening of the opening for the recoil lug under the forearm. If done, it still fits the original just fine. If you search this site I know I (and probably others) have posted pics on what needs done. As of a few weeks ago, there was some available for the M2 a few different places.

  8. As the topic title says, I am wanting to buy Benelli factory OEM choke holders. It is those (the little opaque container that looks like a pill bottle). I have searched all over but can't seem to find just the bottles. I'd be interested in maybe up to 15 in 12 gauge and I think I need 4 or 5 - 20 gauge. I'll have to double-check that one.

These are for Mobil chokes if that matters. Mostly I just need the factory length ones, but would buy a few extended if available. I'd maybe even be interested in some of the original black Mobil chokes too, so I'd have a complete set for every barrel I have. Some of my extra barrels are mix and match.

I'm hoping someone has a pile of them that they don't want or need. Pic below is what I am after:

Bambi that’s m4 porn., Which is perfectly fine

Outlawyer, my picture above is of a pair of factory top folding HK import Benelli M3T's, not M4. You can see the gap behind the forearm for it to slide back when used it pump mode. There is also a knurled ring with a throw level in front of the forearm where you select whether you want semi-auto, or pump. I was just posting the M3 pics to show the differences to clarify which one he was after. There are a bunch of M4 pics on this site, but I'll put one here at the bottom for comparison.

If there is such a thing as a factory collapsible stock specifically for a M3, I haven't heard about it. Now that I think about it, perhaps one from a M4 would fit the standard (non-folding) M3's. The M3 folders have a completely different action system than the non-folders.
*edit* Searching these forums I found one that states the NEW M3's will accept the M4 collapsible stock:

On a quick Google search (since I am curious), I found a really old thread that referenced it. https://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=32240

This would have been for the original run. I don't know what all was changed for the newer re-released ones other than losing the ghost load capability. I know there are other changes too. One of the forum members on here posted some of the variations in the history of the M3 production along with pictures. My searches for that thread though come up empty. I haven't done anything to mine because I love them the way they are. They aren't that common.

M4. See there is no gap behind the forearm, nor a rail surface for it to slide against:

  10. Do you mean the newer gas operated M4? The M3 is a selectable semi-auto/pump shotgun. As far as stock options, the M3 had a top folding stock, a pistol grip stock, and field stock options. I can't recall any collapsible stocks offered, even on the new released models. I've been wrong before though. ?

Here's my pair of original HK M3T's for comparison:

  11. As truckcop mentioned, the M2 barrel will fit and work just fine on the M1 but does take opening up the area around the recoil lug on the barrel for it to work. I don't believe there was ever a slug option that had the longer lug forearm like they had for the SBE but it might be worth a look.

I've got a 28" M2 field barrel that I have thought about selling. I haven't done anything with it. Which reminds me, I was going to also list a 18.5" original M1 barrel too but I forgot about that until just now. Gunbroker has them pop up occasionally, but they are pricey. I think I gave in the upper $500 range for mine. Just use this link and save the search if you have an account. https://www.gunbroker.com/Gun-Parts/search?Keywords=Benelli m1 barrel Otherwise, just bookmark and check back often. Good luck.

Searching this forum found previous info on the topic so I won't go into more detail.

  12. It's odd to use your username for the title instead of "WTB: Benelli M4 Tactical" or similar. But I see this is your first post. So, welcome to the forum...

There are plenty available on GunBroker: https://www.gunbroker.com/Guns-Firearms/search?Keywords=benelli m4&Sort=13&PageSize=96
    Armslist: https://www.armslist.com/classifieds/search?search=benelli+m4&location=usa&category=all&posttype=7&ships=

The market prices currently are artificially inflated on many 'black guns' like this, the AR platform, etc due to COVID-19 panic and product availablity, as well as the presidential election results in the USA. If you need one now, it will cost a few hundred more now than it did before all this happened, and will likely return to after the world returns to some form of normal.

  13. I assume 3-5", not feet? Or, was it 3/5th's? Just clarifying. You can reach in far enough to touch and you can actually feel it? I believe all Benelli's are chrome lined barrels. Did you get any chrome flakes or other shiny metal during the cleaning process? My gut instinct thinks that if anything, it is actually lead build-up from the slugs getting deposited on the barrel instead of barrel damage though that is awfully fast accumulation.

  14. Sorry for the lack of follow-up. Count me in the list of COVID after literally 50% of the people at work got it.

I don't know though. Going the other way around m2 barrel in M1 usually require some inletting around where the barrel where that large ring near where they mate up as well as the aforementioned forearm. The pic without the forearm eliminates a forearm issue. Maybe one of the Benelli 'smiths will see this and hop on. Free bump. ?

  15. Congrats on your Monte. I think you will love it. I bought an HK SBE back in ~1994 and for many years it was the ONLY 12 gauge I used. I sold off all my others after I got it. Then, I bought an old HK import 20 gauge back about a decade ago, mostly for my wife to shoot. It has been flawless and for whatever reason, it seems to be a natural pointer. People that haven't shot much can still do well shooting clay pigeons.

I live in OK, so not as high of humidity as some face, but it is still a concern. I keep mine in silicone gun socks in the safe with a goldenrod type device. I also agree with the others in that the factory take-down type case isn't the most convenient. I guess it depends how you use it. When I am at the range, I leave my guns in the cases until ready to shoot. When hunting, it isn't uncommon to get in the vehicle and go mile(s) down the road to a different field/area. This is a problem to be constantly taking the gun down.

  16. Not that I've ever heard. I do know that M1 barrels will work on the M2 (and not the other way around without needing modifications).

Once the vaccine gets rolled out and work resumes to normal, I expect the backlog will slowly disappear and you'll be able to find them without much trouble. It could take many months though. Keep an eye on gunbroker.com and similar. If you have an account, you can set up "saved searches" to notify you when a matching items meets your criteria.

    Good luck.

  17. The M1 shot barrel to M2 shot barrel is supposed to work fine in that direction. For the slug barrel, I am not as sure. I know going the other direction requires Dremel'ing out the recoil lug opening or getting a modified forearm like you did for your M2.

Could you elaborate on "The one I purchased (original Benelli) seems to be about 1/4 inch longer and does not seat as flush as the original shot barrel"? What part is longer and where is it not seating as flush? The picture below is from pointing out the rib and lug differences in the SBE 1 and SBE II barrels, but does your modified forearm fit the longer lug like the middle and top barrel? Does your barrel seat properly without any forearm or bolt?

  18. Depends what you are shooting and the ranges involved. Back when I hunted geese up in Canada, we'd burn a couple hundred rounds of 3.5" of between 2's and 000 each season. On my HK SBE, I mostly used the factory chokes as they patterned great. A friend of mine with a SBE II used a ported extended choke but he said it was for the recoil reduction, not any real change in pattern. I will say those extremely high angled shot (nearly up) really smart on the collar bone/top of shoulder area so maybe he was on to something.

Patterning 3.5" shells isn't much fun, but it will tell you a lot of what you need to know. Oddly, I've had some of the bigger shot shoot tighter groups through more open chokes. I guess it doesn't deform the shot as much maybe. I do have an old extended extra full choke for Turkey but haven't really used it much as the factory setup works just fine.

I think he means the receiver bambi.  I've seen that wear on the new ones... not sure if bambi's exhibits the receiver wear too

Oh, OK. If he is referencing the area where the slide meets the receiver, then it is still possible to be the the same issue. You can see the rub marks follow the contour of the forearm. Other thought is perhaps they changed the dimensions of the forearm?!?
I've not seen any receiver wear on either of mine in the slide/receiver mesh area. Both of my current M3T's are HK import so they are not the recent re-release version.

  20. If you are referring to the rub marks on the barrel, that can happen if you grip too hard and/or cycle it off center. I have two M3T's (top folders). The first one I got had it starting on one side. When I got it I just blasted away from it and I noticed it started getting that line on the other side as well. The previous shooter was left handed, I am right. It seems I push in towards the gun when I cycle it instead of front to back inline with the barrel.

On my 2nd gun, I by then had corrected my stroke (that's what she said ?) and never got any marks on the barrel. It still leaves faint marks on the rail points it glides on just like a 1911 or any other with visible rub points. All I can suggest is keep those points lightly lubed and cycle it in straight line. This design is MUCH better than the Franchi SPAS-12 design as far as exposed rub/wear surfaces. Franchi did improve that issue with the SPAS-15 with less visible wear. I bring those up since they are also semi-auto/pump designs.
