A.R.M.S. 17 type clamp $look around and find a good deal.

misc stuff $4.00 @local hardware, Total $57.00. I wanted the LaRue Q.R. clamp, but you can get a screw clamp very inexspensive.

here are some pics from the assem:

  2. You two ought to put together a quick spec reference document, it'd rock the house. I can see how having this kind of stuff on hand could be very handy to some.

STA is brains here - I just do some heavy lifting.

If you do a search of his posts you can find much detailed, exact information on many tecnichal aspects of the M4 - d

  3. Benelli does make a longer spring for the full length tubes, it has considerable more force. It also cuts down on the mag capacity (only six 2.75" shells will fit.) I purchased one but do not use it for this reason (e-gunparts, $6.95 or so. http://www.e-gunparts.com/product.asp?chrProductSKU=981390&MC=) If the weapon is expericing feeding related issues I would make sure the tube interier and extension are free of crud and possable burrs or machining marks, as said above it should work flawlesly with the standard spring. I streched my spring slighty to increse tension but this may be unadvisable in a peace officers weapon. Try marking the spring and extension (with chalk or simmiler) and rotating in the other seperatly and together to see where the failure lies. Also have Benelli send you a new spring under warrenty. regards -d

  4. After waiting two years for SF to come out with their picatinny forend I was not impressed. So I made my own. It was not very hard but being the prototype the plastic got chewed up a little. If I was to do it again it would look much better.

  5. More specifically, if I were to use this ammo in my supernova tactical for home defense and the sh*t were to hit the fan would it look bad from a criminal or civil perspective defending a self defense shooting?

Almost always you are going to look bad if you shoot somebody. The prosecuting attorney will say you are using special ammo made just for cops because it is so powerful/deadly. Your lawyer will say you are using LE ammo because if it is for cops, it must be the safest and most reliable and most proven not to cause collateral injury. Anyway it is not illegal to sell to or posses LE ammo. It is just not marketed to civilians.

Some people say hand loads will get you in a lot of trouble, and I would not recommend them for self-defense. However what it will boil down to is whether the shooting was considered reasonable and the quality of your lawyer.

  6. awsome, after you recessed it in the forearm did you just bolt it on or did you also epoxy it? How does the mount with light handle recoil?

I recessed it then used the bolts supplied by ergogrip, I did not epoxy, but I did put very thin rubber O-rings on the bolts between the rail and the forearm. I did this mainly to issolate shear force and the posabilty of fracturing the plastic forearm. I then lock-tited the bolts (red I think) It handels recoil without a hitch, the surefire lights are not heavy.

    below are more pic's

  7. It will be interesting to see inside one of these. It appears from the photos that what we are seeing is just the magazine tube and not some other shield or gas deflector.

I think one of the complaints of the B&T system (and possibly of the initial M80 prototypes) is that it was completely open, and excess gasses coming from the pistons or ARGO system could be directed upon the support hand.

I wonder how Surefire has addressed this issue ?

That is a concern of mine as well STA. After close exam of the pic's it looks like the nylon or plastic inserts in the top portion of the rail (contacting the barrel and attached to the aluminum forend with allen butten head screw) also closely contact the mag tube and appear to seal against it, perhapse any gas is contained or vented out the front? I do not know.
