  1. almost done with new gun cabinet that I have been working on, just a few little things to finish. Watcha think? Man I have not been on here for a long time, Is Tucker still around??? Is Tucker still on the punctuation patrol.
  2. Dennis Anderson: Duck issue hot in Canada Millions in private and public American dollars have been spent to improve habitat to the north, but numbers are still down. Calls for an explanation grow louder. Dennis Anderson, Star Tribune Minnesota has duck problems. But it's not alone. And given that some 70 percent of ducks killed in the state originate their flights elsewhere -- primarily in Canada -- perhaps our duck problems aren't all of our own making. Such would be one interpretation of a conflict in prairie Canada that has boiled over in recent weeks. Delta Waterfowl Foundation, a venerable, albeit relatively small, group with roots that extend deep into Minnesota soil, announced in recent days it has been kicked off, essentially, the Prairie Habitat Joint Venture (PHJV) in western Canada. PHJV is one of various joint ventures that make up the North American Waterfowl Management Plan -- a program developed in the late 1980s to attempt to reverse declining duck populations. Minnesota, for example, with the Dakotas, Iowa and Montana, form one such consortium, the Prairie Pothole Joint Venture. But the duck-production action traditionally has been on the Canadian prairies. It's there where, during most of the past century, more than half of the continent's ducks have been produced. It's there also where PHJV has operated. Now indications flare up that a lot of money -- some $600 million, perhaps -- has been spent in Canada, ostensibly to benefit ducks, but without much to show for it. Much of that money has come from American taxpayers in the form of grants under the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA). With Ducks Unlimited-Canada, the Canadian Wildlife Service and the Canadian version of The Nature Conservancy, as well as provincial and other representatives, Delta Waterfowl Foundation has been a board member of PHJV. But not a happy one -- at least not in recent years. In its magazine, Delta has questioned the efficiency of duck-habitat and duck-production efforts of PHJV and, by its own admission, has been a bit of a thorn in the side of other board members. "We want to be a partner in Canada," said Rob Olson, president of the Delta foundation. "But we have some issues that really need to be discussed, such as, what have we accomplished for $650 million?" Delta is also a member of the Prairie Pothole Joint Venture, with Minnesota, the Dakotas, Montana, Iowa, Ducks Unlimited and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Olson said significant differences exist between that joint venture and PHJV, primarily that an accounting of habitat and other work done on the U.S. side is readily available. "The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service can tell you where the joint venture has done what, and what's worked and what hasn't," Olson said. It's no secret that Ducks Unlimited-Canada, which is the major player in the Canadian joint venture, and Delta have scrapped in recent years over a variety of issues. One need only look at the new Cabela's Waterfowl catalog, the first two pages of which are dedicated to Delta, to gain a sense of the tension . "Predators are the major factor inhibiting duck production," Delta proclaims, and, "Securing general habitat alone is not enough to increase duck production rates." Ducks Unlimited might not completely disagree with that, but the group wouldn't advocate those statements, either -- at least not as the top issues facing ducks, which is Delta's position. (Top DU officials in the United States and Canada were unavailable for comment Thursday.) Late last year, the Canadian joint venture board developed a "charter" it asked each member to sign. Delta refused, saying it was an effort to keep the group quiet and might also prohibit it in some instances from soliciting contributions. Additionally, Olson said, Delta believed if it signed the charter it would be endorsing the joint venture's efforts, which it can't do until a full accounting of monies spent on Canadian conservation is made. Dave Ankney, a retired waterfowl ecology professor at the University of Western Ontario, said he believes only about 350,000 acres have been purchased or secured through easements under PHJV, despite the hundreds of millions of dollars spent. All of which is important to U.S. waterfowlers because Ducks Unlimited members here send a lot of money north each year to Ducks Unlimited-Canada. And NAWCA funds, contributed by American taxpayers, also go to Canada. Delta is particularly affected by the conflict because it no longer has a seat on the PHJV board and because the board also has said Delta isn't eligible to receive NAWCA funds (Delta disagrees). Bottom line: Regardless of who is at fault, if anyone, this matter had better get straightened out quickly. Historically, American waterfowlers have been a generous bunch, contributing to conservation their time and millions of dollars. But of late they've grown embittered by a lack of ducks, and if they get even a hint their efforts are being wasted, their contributions to Canada -- and everyone involved -- will dry up faster than Saskatchewan's prairie potholes did this last hot summer.

I'm just saying WELCOME and ENCOURAGE the sport that we love so much, without new people comming into this sport someday it will be gone!!
  5. Sorry I just assumed that most people have control over their computer and was able to pick and choose what they wanted to read!!!
  6. Admin already shut down the other post because you guys were acting like 12 y/o's. DROP IT.

Well if someone has had a bad experiance with a certian product we should all want to know about it, either so we can stay away from that product or maybe we own one and we can find a solution. As far as raging on a person, Benelli should not tolerate that and we should notify an admin. and they should remove the post promptly, or here's an idea JUST IGNORE IT and not post, Be the bigger person!!!
  8. Ya know some of you people need to get off your high horses and realize that we all have the same interests, SHOOTING and HUNTING. I just don't understand some of you people, If you don't spell correctly or use correct paragraphing some of you rush to log in and create a post to call them on it and that's it, not to answer their question but to ridicule them about proper grammar. Then when a new member posts a question about a topic that may have been written about already some of you rush to log in and reply to the new member that basically they have just made a grave mistake by not using the search tool to find the topic. Did it ever occur to you that some people that are new to somthing would just like to ask a question to someone that has been at it awhile and with far more experiance than them. Man I would hate to think that any of you have KIDS, what do you do when your kids come home from school or day care and ask a simple question that to most is common knowledge??? Do you jump down there throat and tell them to go use the search button?? Or just tell them to go ask someone that cares?? Just stop and think about it when you were a little green behind the ears and asked an elder about something you were interested in did they treat you like an idiot. Now I know when most of you were getting into waterfowling that not all of you knew how to blow a call rather it be goose or duck, recently I called Tim Grounds and Buck Gardner to ask them a few questions about calling and shooting, they were both very happy to help and they corrected me on some things with a totally positive attitude, and they have been asked the same questions over and over again. It's hard to believe that some of you even hunt, with the number of posts that some have how DO you find time to hunt??? Now I own a Benelli just like most of you, but I guess I don't feel like that gives me the right to look down on someone!!! So next time someone asks, what to you is a stupid question, put your self in their shoes and think about it, any dummy can tell them to use the search tool, but only someone that knows the answer can politely tell them the answer. I guess that some people just need to get a LIFE!!!

  10. I personally have shot these shells out of my SBE II and have not had any problems, my buddy has a super nova that he also shot these out of with no problems, if I remember correctly these loads were a little more violent as far as recoil goes. OUCH! Oh yeah, by the way, we were patterning these shells when we were shooting them (3.5 bb and 3.5 2 shot), tired them in full choke, improved mod, mod and improved cylinder, did not find any choke in either the SBE II or the super nove that liked these loads. 11. Yes all kills were legal, And very tasty too!! Iowa law states- Daily bag limit 6 ducks of wich no more than 4 mallards (of wich no more than 2 can be female), 2 wood ducks, 2 red heads, 1 pintail, 1 canvasback, 1 black duck and 2 scaup.
  12. Well I'm the type of hunter that eats my kill, not just take pictures and toss them or mount them, so to me a duck is a duck.
  13. Three of us went out this morning, 9 green wings, 2 blue wings, 3 hen mallards and 1 drake mallard with very very little plumage. Over all a great morning!!!
  14. Because Tucker, you are a complicated man and you wish to own a complicated piece of equipment!!
  15. GET OVER IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. The ONLY problem that I've had with my brand new SBE II is operator error!!!! Remember let bolt slam shut so it will rotate and lock, DO NOT try to quitely close it with your hand!!! It no go BANG!! [ 09-14-2006, 04:51 PM: Message edited by: rooster31 ]

    Grass!!

We have a mud buddy quick flip collaspable blind that was purchased for this season, question is does any body know of any type of grass that will blend in with marsh grass that will not crack and break when rolled up?? Looked at the raffia grass that cabela's has in the 18lbs kit but you have to find a good way to permanently attach it to the fabric, really wanted it in a mat. Also looked at the Quack grass raffia mats that gooseview industries sells, but they want 28.00 for one mat that covers aprox. 20 sq. feet, well with a 1860 tracker grizzly that comes to about 350.00, I know I know we also plan on attaching natral grasses when we get to our spot each morning. Thats pretty much a given is it not??
  18. Duck season less than a month away the shakes are getting worse every day, the weather here is very "DUCKY" lite mist and temps in the 60's, only if it were about 20 degrees cooler!!! Although special goose season runs sept 1-15 their still not ducks!!!
  19. can any one give any information on what the advantages of a ported choke tube would be besides the possible reduction in recoil/muzzle jump??? Doing research on choke tubes for the new SBE II that I purchased for this duck season I was told by a company that patternmaster's pattened internal stud system was a total marketing ploy, which with the articles that I have read and no high speed film to back up their claims I feel pretty strongly that this is true, in my eyes a choke tube is a choke tube, all have a set constriction that is only effected by the conical section and the paralell section, correct?? So as long as you have the constriction that you want and find a company that gives an evenly tapered conical section and a long enough paralell section the rest are just add-ons to an already over-priced piece of 17-04 stainless steel, please correct me if I'm wrong. this is an on-going battle with my buddy in the duck blind, and I want to be prepared this season, any ballistic data on shot patterns would be greatly appreciated!!!!
  20. Central Iowa special goose hunt in selected areas sept. 1-15 so only 11 days in central Iowa
  21. Any of you shot slugs through a SBE II??? If you have what choke do you use and what type of accuracy did you experiance??? By the way SBE II RULES!!!!!!
  22. Hey Guys, Just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth traded my Stoeger in last friday for a brand spankin new SUPER BLACK EAGLE II, WOW what a difference in... well just about everything! First time out at the IKEs shooting clay birds last night, was usually hitting about 15 to 18 birds on a good night with the Stoeger, but the SBE II didn't let me down, nailed 25 out of 25 perfect score!!! there is too much to say about this gun on one post but any one who has one will know what I'm saying. recoil 0% easy target acquisition 100% jealous friends 100% Benelli Super Black Eagle II....PRICELESS!!!! I LOVE IT. YOU WILL HAVE TO PRY THIS THING OUT OF MY COLD DEAD HANDS
  23. Tucker, you seem to spend some time on the net and seem to be pretty knowledgeable about the hunting community, could you link me to any reloading sites that have extensive reloading data for heavy shot/heavy steel, don't mean to single you out but you seem to have some pretty good info every now and again. Thanks, rooster31
