  3. You will not hurt the gun or the choke in any way firing buck out of a rifled choke. You will likely cause the shot to spread out further due to spin imparted by rifling though. Will likely reduce effective range.
  4. Both M1 and M2 shims work the same way. Z=45mm drop A=50mm drop B=55mm drop C=60mm drop D=65mm drop It is in the manual and downloadable from the website. D is the most drop which gives you the lowest point of impact. You got it backwards.
  5. A "D" shim would lower point of impact further. If you want the impact higher you raise the stock (less drop). You want a "B" or "A" shim to raise the point of impact.
  6. Typical best performance for slugs and buck would be effected negatively by that tight of a choke. It will cause more deformation to both. Deformation turns nice round things into irregular smashed things. Irregular things don't fly straight. Best single choke for those two is an Improved Cylinder. Best choke for slugs is a rifled one. Rifled best for slugs Improved Cylinder best for buckshot Modified best for medium/longer range smaller shot. You "can" shoot them through the mod just to see what happens. It won't split the bbl or anything.
  7. Yes, they make a 20ga Short Stock Montefeltro, my 10yr old has one, excellent gun. A lot lighter but still managable recoil. My son is 70lbs and handles normal 7/8oz loads on clays and hi-vel 3/4oz steel loads on pheasants with no complaints. Another big plus is that it is adjustable to fit with the shims for drop and cast. You can also stuff a little weight in the hollow of stock if needed but I doubt it. this gun or a Youth stocked 3901RL would be excellent choices.
  8. Sorry for the crosslink, this forum only allows 2 images per post, story and pics are at the link. http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=98892
  9. The Practical I really liked, did well with it. I remember one match, 12 poppers at 15 yards. I ran it in 2.03 and was leading til the last guy in the group shot a 1.97 using his practical. Guess I got tired of shooting steel and paper, matches were too far between. Clays are a lot more fun and I can get out more with my son. Plus I never liked the sights on them. I used an Eotech. Still got the M1 and extensions so if I get the urge my shorty Grouse gun becomes....
  10. 2 letter code in a box on the left side of the receiver corresponds to this chart. http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=73492
  11. Must be one of the new ones, mine was 12 shot capacity. The newer guns lost the ability to cary one shell on top of the bolt carrier. It sounds like the little flanged cap that goes on the end of mag tube extensions. In the pic below you see one installed in a +4 ext tube. All the Benelli Factory mag tube extensions come with them. Keeps the spring in. To answer your 2nd question, that metal piece comes out. Squeeze it with pliers (beware FLYING PARTS) while making sure to SLOWLY let it out. Spring will be pushing hard behind it. The below mag ext is from http://www.davesmetalworks.com/ excellent quality, fit and finish. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid42/pbd426d9a525bd20e140c9ac205cd68c8/fceedcff.jpg Below my 3-gun setup, M1 Practical, AR10-T Carbine/Leupold and Para P16-40 http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid42/pcc0a235036f0c6facefbe1d25d5e671a/fceedcb6.jpg
  12. NOT TRUE, you can certainly shoot slugs in it. Improved Cylinder or a rifled choke (better) would be fine. Hold on tight:D
  13. http://www.benelliusa.com/firearms/m4.tpl Either that or a Galati, very nice soft cases for decent money. http://www.galatiinternational.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=GIO&Product_Code=RG44&Category_Code=Shotgun_Accessories
  14. 1) Lube the recoil spring in the buttstock, light oil on bolt head where it pivots. 2) Top of the receiver, inside, near the back. 3) As above, heat to loosen threadlocker on nut, wrench to loosen. BEWARE OF FLYING PARTS. 4)Dunno 5)Probably crud, clean "with extreme prejudice" or burnish bore. 6)Dunno 7)http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=73492 8)

    choke tubes

They say "STEEL OK", means you can shoot Steel or lead (or whatever. The IM and Full say Lead only. C and I/C are totally safe/fine with lead buckshot.
  16. Both Montefeltros and M1s are "Super 90"s M1/M2 can take magazine ext, weights are within a few ozs with a similar bbl length, very different finishes. M1 has flat sided receiver, Monte is milled or contoured. M1 has higher rib on its bbls. Visual differences below. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20Montefeltro%2020ga/100_2943.jpg
  17. Found one, Benelli told me to call "Mans" @ 618-357-2911 They are ordering it for me. $225.....
  18. Just brought home my 3rd Benelli Auto in 3 mos. Current model 20ga Montefeltro 26" marked used for $750 at a local Gander Mountain but looking unfired. All the chokes, manual, case, shims, wrench, lube, everything a new one would come with. No dings, perfect. 5lbs 6oz on my scale. Need a short stock for it for my son. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20Montefeltro%2020ga/100_2938.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20Montefeltro%2020ga/100_2939.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20Montefeltro%2020ga/100_2940.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20Montefeltro%2020ga/100_2945.jpg The whole gang except for my 12ga Nova 12ga 28" 1996 Montefeltro 20ga 26" 2005 montefeltro 12ga 21" 2000 M1 Super 90
  19. Yeah, pulled it off the used rack at Gander Mountain, saw that wood and did not let go till they came and unlocked it.
  20. Got the gun two months ago and found the barrel band was busted. That 28" bbl is still not back, 8 weeks. Patience..... http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=91639 Anyway, reason I wanted it in the first place was to make the gun you see here. I hunt Grouse in some groves where a 28" gun just makes you mad. Even a 24" seems to get caught. Had an M1 Tactical 18.5 previously but ended up selling it before I got a chance to bother grouse with it. Barrel is 21" VR with screw in chokes. Got it nib on Gunbroker last week for $225 Year of Manufacture is BN or 2000 Weight in this config is 6lb 4oz OAL is 42" http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20M1%20Super%2090/100_2926.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20M1%20Super%2090/100_2924.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20M1%20Super%2090/100_2934.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20M1%20Super%2090/100_2925.jpg Here it is compared to my 28" Montefeltro. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20M1%20Super%2090/100_2920.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20M1%20Super%2090/100_2921.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20M1%20Super%2090/100_2917.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20M1%20Super%2090/100_2915.jpg Put a +4 extension on the M1 for comparison, 9 shots in this config. Be nice for some pepper poppers. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20M1%20Super%2090/100_2914.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20M1%20Super%2090/100_2916.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f49/postban/Benelli%20M1%20Super%2090/100_2918.jpg Gonna try it out on SC and Skeet Sunday, hope it runs as well as the Monte does.
  21. Try serarching these every couple of days, should turn something up. www.eBay.com www.gunbroker.com www.auctionarms.com Instead of a full rifled for deer I bought a rifled choke. It works great with Brenekke type slugs, only $40 for the choke. 3-shots touching at 50yds using just the bead sight and resting the gun on the side of my truck bed. Also search often; http://www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=7&f=47 http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewforum.php?f=73&sid=33e1dd1f78552357792f5eeec6f1cb9b Best sight for all those would be the standard bead. For home defense add a surefire flashlight.
  22. I own both a Remington 1187 SP (30",26" VR and 21" cantilever) and a Benelli Montefeltro (28" and 24" VR). Owned the the 1187 since early '90's and the Monte for about a month. The Monte is a 1996 model bought used, exc condition but it has been shot approx 1000rds previous. Previously owned by a hunter, not a sport shooter. Both guns are spotlessly clean when I go to the clays range. So far the 1187 will not cycle Win Universal or Federal Estate reliably. It is ok with the 25 rds of Rem Gun Club I tried yesterday but it was on a trap field and was tossing empties well. Not sure if it will feed doubles reliably. The Universal and Estate just will not consistantly cycle/eject from the Rem. O-ring is perfect, mag tube rem-oiled, recoil tube cleaned last month. IT reuns great with "Game Loads" or Upland loads or of course slugs, just pukes these light target loads. So far the Montefeltro has eaten Universal, Estate, Gun club, some 20yr old reloads my Grandpa made with Red-dot and card wads, equally old Win AA skeet loads, 1oz #8 3dram Win loads with a JC Penny price tag on them (been decades since they stopped selling sporting goods) and more. 750 rds through with many of questionable pedigree and it has yet to not cycle perfectly. Benelli's are not new to me, this is my 5th, but this ability to deliver is new. It has a bit more shove than the gas gun but weighs a full 1.5lbs less too. 200rds yesterday through the Monte, 50 through the 1187, no bruising or recoil effect. The 1187 is my slug-chucker supreme (1.25" ctc 100 yds, Brennekke) so it is't going anywhere but I may be taking it out for clays less from now on. Got a heck of a deal on the Monte, realizing that more now that it can work with budget loads so well. http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=94719
