  1. I may have the pre-fit part number wrong. I wrote the above from memory. The Limbsaver pads are thick, but not that much more than the standad Nova hard pad. I have never seen a Nova gel pad so I can't estimate if Limbsaver would be thicker. I wrote in another thread here how to install the recoil reducer. I can't be sure how close it comes to the internal side of the recoil pad, but it is pretty close. The Benelli imagery may give you an idea. I am not sure if you can shorten the Nova stock. The stock is hollow, and certainly could be trimmed. But, the Limbsaver pad uses an internal plastic anchor plate that grabs the stock internal features, and if you cut the stock off those would vanish as well. The stock recoil pad uses the same features to snap into place.

    Camo Cordoba?

It wouldn't be official Benelli, but you can try shipping standard Cordoba stocks to Bell & Carlson for camouflage at a reasonable cost. Go to their website and see what finishes they have to offer.
  3. Remove the buttstock recoil pad by gently but strongly pulling it down from the top to the bottom and pulling it towards you. It is slightly bendable and has two plastic forms that engage mating plastic ledges inside the buttstock. The plastic bracket goes in first. It screws into pre-molded, pre-drilled holes using the screws provided. A long Phillips head screwdriver is needed. Yes, you can put it in wrong, but the tube should align generally with the lower edge of the buttstock and the screw holes will line up. Take care to snug these screws up gently, and not damage the screw head slots. You will need to find a nice soft place to rest the action of the shotgun as you push downwards and screw the screws into position. The mercury tube goes into the bracket. The hose goes in over the tube. The metal clip slips into the bracket slot. The recoil pad is inserted into the lower recess, then whomped into place and snapped into position. The removable recoil pad is designed so you can take the 14 oz recoil reducer in and out to suit your sporting needs.
  4. I am thinking long and hard about the next scattergun. I have the Nova with recoil reducer and limbsaver. So, it works well with 3.5 goose loads or turkey loads. It is camo also. But, I would like a semi-auto next. The semi-auto might be used for goose, or turkey, but with the Nova already set up, do I really need the SBE? Would the M2 be a better choice for dove, quail, pheasant?

    M4 Camo

I have seen many SBE in the used racks with camo problems. I wonder if their vendor just uses poor quality film.
  6. Concur with Hogwild on potential damage. Don't store in hardcase with wrench if wrench can move around and impact chokes.
  7. I am not sure about the SBE barrel design. But, the original Beretta Xtrema is backbored. This makes the bore slightly larger than standard. It would not shoot slugs well. I called Beretta, and they said that it would not shoot slugs well by its nature. I was disappointed, as I wanted a do-everything shotgun. But, as another poster said, I could buy a rifled slug 870 and scope for the price of a Beretta barrel. And at the time, there was no rifled slug Xtrema barrel. So, check the design of the SBE barrel before using it for slugs. It may not work well by design.
  8. My first thought was the retailer caused the issue through poor handling of the merchandise through their supply chain. I never thought Benelli quality was at all suspect. That said, I've seen a number of SBE with camo finishes that did not stay on, mostly at the wear points.
  9. The Nova recoil reducer kit has a new part number. In it you get the bracket, the hose, the two screws, the retaining clip, and the mercury tube. It is $115. Limbsaver pad is worth getting. If you don't find a prefit pad, you can send the buttstock to Limbsaver and they will install a "grind-to-fit" pad for you. Suggest you mention your LE status, there may be a discount. The grind-to-fit pad may cost as much as a Benelli gel pad, but is very very worth it. I have both Limbsaver 10402 and the mercury reducer on a standard Nova and now I can touch off the massive turkey loads without fear.
  10. Limbsavers are great! I have three. I suggest you send your unused pad and buttstock to Limbsaver. They will exchange the unused pad for a grind-to-fit pad, install it on your stock, and return it to you. Cost is reasonable...I can't remember how much it cost me the two times I have done this. There is a template you can print out to see if any pre-fit pads might work. But, if not, get the grind-to-fit.
  11. I would like to remove the red bead on my Nova and replace it with a larger green bead. I see you can purchase several different thread types at Midway. Does anyone have the facts on the Benelli thread for this part?
  12. Can you purchase the SuperNova steady grip stock instead? They make both traditional and steadygrip versions of the SuperNova.
  13. In a Nova, I have tried a Carlson's Dead Coyote, which I think is 0.665, with all sorts of buckshot loads. I tried reduced recoil 2.75 all the way to 3.5 magnum. #00, #1, #4 shot sizes. I was not able to see anything consistent even at short range. The smaller shot sizes seemed to pattern better.
  14. My Nova in Advantage Timber is only marred at the sling swivel areas. I ended up changing swivels to minimize the gouging. I have seen three SBE camo finishes worn off on used Benellis at the local store.
  15. Just love the Benelli recoil reducing kit! Installed easy, and it is very very effective. It also works with a Limbsaver pad, and the pair of technologies softens the 3.5 inch goose loads to near unfelt levels. Adding a pound to the shotgun may seem a penalty, but in my novice hands it improved the gun's balance, putting the balance point right at the loading port.
