Somebody posted a pic of their scrap recycling. How odd... Welcome to the forum Nv.

Unobtanium should be showing up with half naked body building pics of himself soon. Don't let 'er die boys. This thread has legs.

;)I don't take anything too serious anymore agm. By biggest concern was young master Vinci's butchery of the language. He is usually a bit sharper.

Mitch, I don't know what you went through, but I had my first back surgery at 23. While still rehabing I was in a car accident & blew out the repaired discs & broke 3 vertabrae. Up to that point I had been a competitive athlete all my life. Losing a lifestyle is about as tough as anything I ever had to deal with in my life. I am 42 now. Good to see you out doing what you are & glad you posted.

Did you get into your dad's booze Vinci? I sure hope so.

Your 3-9 x40 Nikon will be fine. That is a nice flat shooting round also & a good gun. I would keep the Nikon on it for a while until you get comfortable with the longer ranges available to you & get a feel for the new gun. You can always move up in power (or down), or decide you want to try a different reticle style scope.
-
Nice gun and good choice on the scope. The caliber would be more than I would want for whitetail, but you will certainly never be under gunned in North America should you decide to hunt other species. The Harris bi pods are very good also & should be a significant help (I use one for a .17HMR). Any idea what the total weight will be? What reticle did you get on the scope? And the waiting stinks. I still have a few more days to go before I can pick up a new toy too.

Brought it all on yourself Calvin Klein:D.

Junkel, as a couple have others have said, yes it's worth the trade with some qualificaions. I have shot all actions and prefer the automatic. I will add that I am bit lazy and have been shooting since about age 6. It is not the faster follow up shots alltogether, but just the way a well functioning auto shoots that I like. Assuming the gun fits properly I would much prefer to shoot an auto or O/U to anthing else when there is a possibility of a follow up shot. I like to be able to track the target smoothly & focus on target & trigger release with no other distractions. I have shot everthing from bolt action 10 gauges, Auto 5's of all calibers, pumps, side by side & stack barrells. That is just my preference. I like the way the auto soaks up some of the shock and the only thing I miss from the O/U is the choke selection (well the lines too...). With a few exceptions, all of my guns (shotgun or otherwise) are semi auto's and all have excellent triggers. Just my preference, but they are sure a pleasure to shoot when you buy a well designed gun. If I can say anthing about shooting an auto vs a comparable pump is that I found myself more concentrated on the shot & less concerned about a follow up everything else equal. That said, I would not generally reccomend an auto to a new shooter (which you are not). edit: If you get serious (and they are heavily addicting) into doves I can not say enough about a 20ga O/U, but again I am a jaded old fart. For everything else, I would take a well balanced 20 gauge automatic. I just get more pleasure out of shooting them than a 12 in the same gun. You can go down to 3/4oz loads for clay birds pushed at 1300fps (or a bit better) to 3" mag loads for turkey & waterfowl.

I thought it was M1014 & sent this back: "A man starts to live when he can live outside himself". Einstein I no longer feel special now. Where is Unobtanium (with that creamy, muscular bod when a guy needs a hug?)

Sweet. Happy birthday & nice choice. I almost bought a Silver Monte for my significant other's 41st. Instead some troublemaker on here pointed out a right handed Legacy that I could not live without (for the lefty wife:cool:). Congrats on the new toy & reaching such a grand old age. Midlife's are underrated, too btw:D.

Trap & skeet throwers, which should I get?
TokenWhiteMale replied to TokenWhiteMale's topic in Shotgun Sports
Thanks Britt. I did my homework on the problems with the Do-All. They seem to have addressed the complaints with the original model and all the comments I have seen about service after the sale have been very postive. I called them before I ordered to check warranty info etc. & was comfortable with the responses I got. I post my impressions after I get it mounted & run some birds through it. -
looking for lefty silver benilli montefeltro 20 gauge
TokenWhiteMale replied to patrickc's topic in Benelli
Good luck. I could not find any (L) Silver Monte's & wound up with a right Legacy. Try Gun Broker, they seem to have good traffic in the Silver 20ga guns. -
I have used Burris Sig's, Weaver & Leupold. The Burris & Leupold are better quality, the Weaver's functional but cheap looking. As mentioned the Burris Sig allow you to mount with no effect to the scopes finish. I have some nice nickel Burris sig's now on a Voquartsen .17hmr with a Burris 4.5-14x on top. That said, I have decided to go to Conetrol mounts & rings. If you have not checked them out, do so. Made by an old gentlemen in Texas. He will take you call himself and makes the finest, best finished (with no sharp edges anywhere), lightest and rock solid mounts you can put on a sporter. Not cheap, but you will not regret it. http://www.conetrol.com/catalog_page.htm Do a google search & you will find a ton of comments & reviews of his product. You will see his mounts & rings on very large number of cost-no-object & custom guns. edit; Just looked at what your scope & gun are. Go with the Conetrol's

I have an old 870 I keep behind the front door and don't use it for anything other than feral cats or a home defense option. Don't hunt with it or shoot the clays. I think it would be a good canidate for an alternative sight. Can you get a clamp (barrel) mount for them? Have not looked into it yet at all. I'd like to lop the barrel from 30 to 22 also... Regarding the rest; As far as anyone getting mouthy about what kind of shotgun you are using at the range, forget about it. Almost everyone I have ever met act like sportsmen with a common interest. Shooting. Does not really matter what model you are shooting, it's the common ground between us that counts. Given the way public opinion is being manipulated against gun ownership and gun owners, some sense of community and being a part of it should be more the norm than exception. Only somebody acting foolish has ever drawn any attention that I have seen. Some of the comments sounded a bit strange. Maybe things are different where I have been shooting. Or maybe I just need more testosterone to adjust my perspective...

You are right on about the constant minute adjustments that are going to be required for target aqusition. What a boo boo on a tactical gun. If I had one of those things I would be really tempted to stick a compact laser on it. Given it's intended use (don't need to worry about proper lead shooting clays...) I would much rather use that or one of the open illuminted sights available. Won't make the gun any uglier either:p.

Trap & skeet throwers, which should I get?
TokenWhiteMale replied to TokenWhiteMale's topic in Shotgun Sports
The Aerial Assult arrived today. Very heavy & seems to be decently made. Will try to assemble it tonight. Still can't believe how cheap these have gotten... Will build my little platform in the sage tomorrow to mount the unit on. It feels like Christmas. I have always wanted an automated thrower. -
Anybody have any experience reloading 3/4oz 20ga shells? Any powders or loads you care to reccomend for primarily clays? Looking for high velocity loadings. There are quite a few recipes with International Clays powder and WAA wads, but I am considering picking up a bunch of 1/8 felt wads for under the (reduced) shot charge in the shot cup. Better crimps too. The only recipes seem to be for STS & WWAA hulls with the lighter shot charge. Anyone try the Fiocchi hulls reloading? If you have tried the felt wads in your reloads let's hear some feedback please. M4 owners feel free to tease me about the sissy loads.

Welcome to the forum & congrats on the new Franchi. Nice gun;). Enjoy the weekend with the new toy.

After Market Choke Tubes for Shotgun Sports?
TokenWhiteMale replied to Hoosier Hillbilly's topic in Shotgun Sports
No, not at all. Cryo treating metal causes changes at the molecular level, creating a smoother, more uniform surface for the bore. Velocities go up & groups come down a bit as a result of the greater uniformity & micro aligning of the structure of the metal. Your barrel won't know the difference. Your wallet will. We are only talking about the chokes being treated. -
After Market Choke Tubes for Shotgun Sports?
TokenWhiteMale replied to Hoosier Hillbilly's topic in Shotgun Sports
Hey Vinci, No, you don't. There may be a statistical difference between the two, but I seriously doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference between the two chokes. The only reason I am considering cryo treating my shotgun barrel & chokes is because I may send a custom .270 to the same lab & there was a discount listed for a second gun. Like MontePro mentioned, the light modified Briley (extended/ported) looks extremely useful to me and is more convenient than the factory flush mount chokes. The improved modified (one constriction tighter than modified I believe) will also be one I will get. Cryo treating rifle & pistol barrels has shown some accuracy improvement, but I really would not expect much more than personal gear geek satisfaction from the Crio tubes vs identical ported / extended Briley chokes. The biggest concern on aftermarket add on's I have seen is from barrel anomoly syndrome where tacky stickers have been applied. In some cases the additional mass of the sticker affects the charge as it goes down the barrel. Can screw up patterns & the gravity generated by the sticker can sometimes draw a nearby shooters vision to the sticker affecting shot tragectory of those around the gun in question. -
:DGood man! Plus, the gun will be lighter. I'm sure you will shoot better.
-
Sounds kinda g@y to me, but whatever you like on your own gun:p. Consider the source. I am only just getting warmed up to the idea of an alloy reciever, so somebody wanting to put a sticker on a gun just seems ....well, fill in the blank. Maybe put a laminated patch of walnut on the stock:cool:. Hope you enjoy it regardless.

Looking at new scopes 4-12x range, any suggestions?
TokenWhiteMale replied to TokenWhiteMale's topic in Big Game Hunting
I'm shooting the SST also out of the .270. Great bullet. 130gr for deer & I use the BTSP 110 for varmits/coyotes & big bore plinking. Same thing here with the vaporization of the criters at long range. That necked down 'o6 really does a number with those lighter bullets. MOA groups are not a problem with either load. I think I got lucky with the barrel, as it is a 700 Rem. Mountain Rifle (featherweight profile), action bedded, barrel floated w/ laminated glass pressure point up front. It is the most accurate sporter gun I have shot. I will post a pic after I get the new scope mounted. Love to see some pics of your babies too. -
Looking at new scopes 4-12x range, any suggestions?
TokenWhiteMale replied to TokenWhiteMale's topic in Big Game Hunting
Yeah, the one I singled out, the seller did not even bother to go beyone "Big game scope". Barely missed a VXIII 4.5-14x (older model) for $1. Kinda bummed about that one that got away...
