Looking at new scopes 4-12x range, any suggestions?
TokenWhiteMale replied to TokenWhiteMale's topic in Big Game Hunting
Thanks wornsoles. I am looking at the same usage for this gun, so thanks for the post. I fall asleep with the coyetes at night, but am not averse to removing them from local ranches (along with the squirrels). The vxII & III 4-12 can also be had pretty reasonalble, like new on ebay for under $400. Leupold was the only scope Grandpa would let me put this gun he built. I don't regret it and own a couple others. I have never seen a bad one. If I can find a mint VXIII, that would be my preference. More reticle options also. What loads are you using in the '06 for varmit hunting & have you tried the Remington sabot loads in it? -
Trap & skeet throwers, which should I get?
TokenWhiteMale replied to TokenWhiteMale's topic in Shotgun Sports
I am pretty seriously considering this one now: http://www.do-alltraps.com/clayshoot.html The idea of not having to hassle with the manual thrower & that I plan on using it out back a lot makes the cost more justifiable. Anyone ever use one of the Do-All Aerial Assult throwers? -
Looking at new scopes 4-12x range, any suggestions?

Thanks, I just discovered the 2.3-10 vx3. It is also the next smallest behind the 3-9 A/O Ultralight. I like having the paralax adjustment, but could live without it if I was just using the gun on deer. -
Any of you guys have any experience with the Leupold VXII 4-12x 40mm adjustable objective? I am looking to replace a Leupy 2-7 Ultralight on a .270. Will be using it for target, varmit (ground squirrels) and deer. Most shots will be under 500yrds. Have a Burris 4.5-14x and it's just a bit too big & heavy on a hunting gun. Feel free to chime in with other decent scopes. Preference given for smallest size & Leupold seems to have the edge across the board in that area. Thanks

Nice. Sounds like you had lot of fun. -
You sound lonely Cody:confused:. Can you dig up a link on the soft rifle / shotgun case? Is it this one: http://www.benelliusa.com/store/Bags-and-Cases/Benelli-Scoped-Gun-Case-p61.html ?

After Market Choke Tubes for Shotgun Sports?
TokenWhiteMale replied to Hoosier Hillbilly's topic in Shotgun Sports
Right. It seems to be a popular option on cost no limit guns. The extended Briley's were the reccomendation at a trap & skeet site. I also noticed Comp n Choke's are slightly different spec while looking around. Angleport has no listings for Benelli. -

That is one I was looking at also. It also got better reviews, by a good bit, than the one I put on the Midway order. I'll be calling them in the morning to change the order. Thanks:) I have manged to find an exceptional shotgun (at well below it's value) and avoided having to possibly send back the bird thrower. So far, this site has been well worth signing up on. -

Thanks, I am looking at those and the Comp n Choke and in that specific constriction. Did a light modified come with the gun from Benelli? -
I am looking at buying a clay target thrower and would like to hear some opions on both manual and automatic models any of you may own. I plan on setting it up out back, so size is not a concern. This one from Cabela's looks ok: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?type=product&cmCat=Related_IPL_221110&id=0003678227926a and this one: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=975088

It always saddens me, hearing about aged sportsmen suffering under heavy burdens. I would be happy to help you unburden yourself of that slavish Sweet 16, MontePro. Just let me know when are ready to unburden yourself. I would be honored to provide a supportive and nurturing foster home for your Browning. I have had little luck locating a Silver Monte lefty for the wife also. I may just wind up getting her a O/U. And the left handed 1100 I shot was very good, but heavy as ****, even in a 20. My advice is to look around for a lefty Monte too, but they are hard to find.

Shoot it? I have already cleared some land out back for my skeet range. I wanted to make sure I had an appropriate setting in which to shoot. Can't have the common rabble interfering with my concentration, bonding with my gun and sense of wa. -

Here is what I wound up getting: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=127041649 Thanks for your posts guys. I am sure I am going to be very happy with this gun. -
He's kidding of course. The trigger is so bad on those plastic guns, you would be safe unless he hit you with it.

True, a lot of very accomplished shooters love the 28 in the field & particularly on the range. Look at this one splash: http://www.herosarms.com/HA150_Weatherby_Athena_III_28-26/HA150_Weatherby_Athena_III_28-26.htm SKB makes a really sweet 20 & 28. Maybe it will still be around next month.

Yeah, that is what I am going to wind up doing. I have the gun I want, I just need to wait another 24hrs to finalize it. Assuming the price does not get astronomical, I will let you guys know when finished (:cool:don't wanna jinx it). For general purpose, the 26" twenties are hard to beat. Especially when you have the option of 3" shells. Would be nice to have a spare barrel, but I have found none for a Monte or Legacy (barrel only) and have looked for several days. -
Posts like this are what prompted me to join this forum. Wise fouteen year old gentlemen. Be a good son to have.

Yeah, the Silver Monte (not the Full) was what initially caught my eye. Beautiful wood, great lines and unbelievable weight. I mostly hunted upland (quail, dove & pheasant) and would have chosen this 20 years ago with no hesitation. Now I can put a skeet range in the backyard to go with the rifle range and know that 90% of my shooting is going to be "plinking" with maybe the occaisional bird hunt thrown in. -

Thanks Nova. The Silver Monte is what I was looking at. I personally could care less about the gold inlays, but I do like the better wood on the more expensive guns. Agm, I have never had a ported gun either, but I have shot a couple and like them. The Benelli chokes look as good as anything on the market, it would just be nice to have a couple I don't need to use tools on when shooting clay birds. Just a convience. I was planning on sending a feather weight .270 in to Magnaport and it looks like they take half off porting a second gun.... Not too concerned about recoil on a 20ga auto, but if I am already sending one gun in...may shoot a little flatter and the gun may get some 3" shells run through it. -

Thanks agm. Not a very talkative bunch here. I was kind of hoping for a bunch of passionate replies from the Benelli auto shooters here. Now leaning towards a limited production gun, 26" barrels, pick up a couple of extended & ported chokes from Briley or Comp n Choke (any opinions???, anyone???), and then sending it off to be Pro Ported (feel free to jump in with an opinion anyone). So it's looking like the Monte & the Legacy. Even found a place to have my barrels cryo'd after porting. -
Dean, I am shopping the same guns right now, including the Sport 2 and will offer my ten cents on guage. I am a bit on the fence between the Silver Monte and the Sport 2, but I would personally choose a 20. I started out with a .410 before I was 10 years old (Grandpa's of course) and have since owned a couple of 12's and a 16's. I like the balance, handling and frankly the aesthetics of the twenty better than any other bore. I hunted a lot of ducks with 12's, 16's, & 20's, pheasant, quail & dove, plenty of clay birds. Personally the 12 is just a little overkill and I really enjoy the smaller guns. I would have no qualms using a 20 for everything and if I was limited to one shotgun... It would be a 20 guage mag and a Benelli, just not sure which one yet. Be interesting to see what you choose. I would love to see the Silver Monte with a ported 26" barrel and the choke tubes from the Super Sport / Sport 2. Plenty of people would be happy to argue the virtues of the 12 vs. the 20, but as one wise old man already pointed out, it really does come down to what you feel best with. At the margins you will have a bit more gun with the 12. You need to decide if the trade offs are worth it for you. The 20 is just such a sweet and pleasant shooting gun. If you reload you may even notice it's a bit more economical to shoot too.

Greeting from another new member. I had been looking for a mint 20 guage Auto 5, but it looks like the design of the inertia driven Benelli's is as superior to everything else as the Auto 5 once was. I also won't need to worry about steel shot in the Benelli or swapping barrells when I want a different choke. Much lighter than a comparable 20 guage mag Auto 5 and the cyclic rate looks faster also. I am looking at the Sport 2, the Montefeltro Silver, and Legacy. Most likely the vast majority of shooting is going to be clay birds, maybe some pheasant, dove, quail & waterfowl. I really like the idea of the Crio Plus choke tubes and not needing a tool to swap them. That said, I really prefer a 26 inch barrell on a 20 guage gun. I also see barrel lengths range from 24 to 28 inches on these three models, but do not see the cryo treated Sport 2 barrrel available separately. Questions are: Will all of the barrells between these three guns interchange (I know the Monte & the Legacy are compatible)? Anyone have a 24 inch barrel as a second & how do you like it? Curious about the cost also, as no prices are listed on the barrels at the website. And lastly, which gun would you buy given what I plan on using it for. Feel free to throw in any other advice as I want to make sure I get the right gun the first time around. Thanks in advance:D.

I have to say I'm not much for gold on guns (save the triggers;)), but that is very tastefully done. What is the difference between the Silver Monte & the Legacy model (standard)? Just cosmetics? The specs look identical to me. Wonder how much that will go for when the bell rings... Any idea what the retail is on that Gold Legacy?

M1014; Very nice looking pair of guns sir. After reading through this thread I decided I needed to register. Quite an assortment of characters on here:cool:. Oh, M1014, should you feel guilty about that fine 20 guage languishing in a safe, I would be happy to provide you with some walking around money and an excellent adoptive home for that lonely gun. The little fella would be right at home with the rest of his pampered (but lovingly used) siblings. Like Maddona, I believe in diversity with the kids and see the need for an Italian in the mix. Too many Belgians right now and I don't want to be seen as "intolerant".... I believe I am going to pick up a Montefeltro or Sport 2 and abandon the quest for the perfect 20 gauge Auto 5. Thanks for posting the pics.
