  1. I live in California too and unfortunately cannot use the folding stock. However, the only upgrades I got were Kip's Titanium Tube, a bigger Charging Handle and Bolt Release. (All Duggans suggestions) and the weapon is much better. I am just looking for a different sort of handguard grip, but cannot find anything really out there. Any suggestions are welcome. Enjoy your peice. Im gonna put a few hundred thru mine on Saturday.....
  2. I was just wondering if anyone else has found an alternative hand guard? and if anyone knew if they made the Quad in a Tan finish? Just looking to keep upgrading this bad boy. Great Weapon. Thx.
  3. i followed Kip's directions and some of everyone elses. The strap wrench I got (Rubber) wouldnt bite, so I ended up putting it in a vice and using the rubber jar openers and oily rags which did the trick after applying the heat gun. You can get one for like $25 at home depot. Only advice I would give is if you use a vice, put wooden blocks on the receiver. Like an idiot I didnt and the teeth chewed off some of the cammo finish. Lesson learned. Kips tube is great, did he ever make the titanium charging handles? I know he was spec'ing it out, and was finishing up the rails.
  4. I just wanted to Chime in to say Kip's Tube is an excellent peice of gear, and well worth the wait to complete your zombie killer. Also, I havent logged on in awhile, any word on the new Titanium rails and charging handles he was exploring? You got another guarateed customer right here Kip. Enjoy guys.
  5. Hey Kip, Dont sweat it brother, I would never throw a tantrum. As a former grunt, I know the "Hurry up and Wait" Mantra all too well. I got the tube off yesterday without a hitch and it looked excactly like Dangers. The culprit was the cheap rubber grip I was using, it was my fault. I have her all cleaned up and ready to go now. I definitely plan on getting your rail, and charging handle when they become available as well my friend I will keep monitoring your site, and looking forward to having a compcarrier tricked out zombie getter!
  6. I got it off. Problem was the rubber grip pads wouldnt bite. I just used an old oily rifle rag and it popped right off. Thanks for taking the time to help stranger.
  7. Sounds like we got the same Heatgun (1000) output, cheapie from home depot. I am going to take more time with it and just heat the living piss out of it. I have the Bolt release Pad coming this week too, but I want to put Kip's Tube on this sucker first. Gunsmith I am not!! I will let you know when I got it off, but I am confident your correct..just the surface has gotten hot.
  8. Those are the instructions I was actually following. I was focusing the heatgun (first attempt) right on where the tube goes into the receiver. (20 mins give or take total) Second time (next day) I did the receiver and the base of the tube for about 15 mins or so, and it still wouldnt turn. Thats about the time I noticed the great job I did on the receiver, so I decided to stop for the day. I am expecting Kip's Titanium Tube in the Mail sometime this week, so I was just trying to take the tube off this weekend while I had the time. So do you think I am just not allowing the locktite to melt? I have never used it, so I am not familiar with its personality. That would be the logical assumption I am guessing, but I am not sure. I ordered some Duracoat today for the touch up,so I really appreciate the advice. Especially on twisting the receiver...I am going to approach this much more carefully from here on out.
  9. I mistakenly put it in a cheap table top clamp vice I bought, and didnt think I would be applying much torque so didnt pad it, and was obviously wrong. I have been using a heat gun to heat the Receiver and tube, while checking the surface areas with an infared thermometer to make sure its 250 Degrees + , and I have done this for around 10-15 mins at a time. I thought a propane torch would cause damage to the receiver??? My guess is, I am not letting the locktite melt down good enough yet and just need to keep it at the 250+ mark for a good while longer. I will take some photos this evening when I get back from the office. I will also get some wood blocks immediately, and should have started with them.
  10. Was just wondering if any of you guys had suggestions/input for camo touch up efforts on the Reciever of my M4. I am in the process of trying to remove my Magazine Tube, and the sucker just wont start turning no matter how hot I get it. Unfortunately, the vice I put it in has stripped a good portion of the Camo finish off of it and there is exposed metal now. I am really not scared to have a weapon with imperfections, but I dont want to invite corossion. Any advice on this is certainly appreciated, as well as how to turn this damn magazine tube off. I followed everyones instructions from past threads and have all the tools needed, but it wont turn for sh*T. Thanks guys
  11. Anyone have experience with the KZ Charging Handle? The Day Design Concepts pulled the plug ( I called and left VM's with no Callback) I just ordered a KZ to have something bigger. Are they worse than GG&G? I ordered both of these parts 2 weeks ago and still nothing in the mail. I am praying Kip will add these to his inventory. I am a big fan of anything strong, light weight, and no F'in Corrosive baby.
  12. I ordered one myself a few weeks ago and cant wait to get this sucker in the Mail. Got the Heatgun, Locktight, and a bunch of other new tools waiting for it! Also looking forward to the Titanium charging handle since its out of production with Design Concepts.
  13. Thanks Duggan, I am on my way to Home Depot right now. I have another question regarding Ammo for you: I accidentally bought a couple hundred rounds of 8 shot to just break in the bolt/receiver a little bit. However, I just realized it may have been a mistake because it might not be powerful enough to actually cycle the weapon. I may be wrong, but if you have any guidance or even opinion on ammo usage for this, That would be awesome. I did buy about 50 Slug Rounds, but they were expensive as **** and i wasnt planning on using them just yet, but I may have to. Thanks budd!
  14. Howdy. I was wondering if anyone can pass some insight over to me regarding the procedure to adjust the Front Sling Ring over to the Left Side of the barrel? There isnt any instructions in the Manual for this. I havent scoured the USMC version yet which may have this info, but if anyone can explain how to do it, I would be most grateful. As always, I apologize for asking if this is a very simple process I should be able to figure out on my own. I just finally got my Gun and Dont want to F it up yet Thanks
  15. Ha. Point Taken. I am not your typical gunclub guy. I just like to stay proficient with my weapons and be able to cut someone in two if I am required to do so. I was refering to those guys that camp out at those ranges and obviously have a life style that revolves around the sport some of those ranges exist for. Like any sport, club, or group, they have their own unwritten rules and ettiquete, and I was just curious if I was going to have to buttstroke anyone for getting in my way. Sure would be a shame to jam some safe queen up some poor joe's arse for smartin off
  16. Personally I dont want to compete with anyone. I just want to go out there and sharpen the reflexes with this weapon and mind my own business and be left the F alone. I just wasnt sure if people generally give a hard time to guys that dont fancy themselves shotgun sportsman that have the weapon specifically for home defense or in case I run into a Cougar or Bear someday back in the hills. No disrepect meant to any true marksman that are at a different level than me.
  17. Here is a stupid question, but I have to ask: I havent been to a Skeet Range in years, and its only been a handful of times. Most of my training was in tactical training situations in the military, and since ive been out, confined to indoor ranges with limited mobility & Distance (trying to change that.) How frowned upon is it to bring and use a Tactical weapon like an M4 to a Skeet Range to use specifally for reflex and target acquistion training? I realize you would only be able to use 2 rounds at a time, but I dont remember seeing anyone at one of those places with a nasty tactical weapon. My guess is some guys will have alot of Sh*T to say because they wouldnt want to see somebody that isnt there specifically for the sport, or even have the RO turn me away. Any advice is appreciated.
  18. I am finally picking up my M4 from my FFL tommorrow (F'in 10 day Cali waiting period) and while waiting I tracked down the USMC manual to see how they train my fellow grunts on this badboy and noticed the difference in correct sight picture from other weapons I have worked with. Hope you got that ***** zeroed where you need it. Have fun!
  19. Leo is right, I just got a letter from Brownells this morning to inform me Design Concepts has dropped the item from the factory inventory, its no longer available. Anyone that has an extra let me know........I will pay double! I dont want the GG&G, but I dont want the factory either.
  20. Hey man, If it saves you any time, Brownelles will be getting a new shipment in for the Charging Handles this week. I ordered one already because I wasnt able to find them anywhere else. I called yesterday and they confirmed what I was told last monday.
  21. okay, that is very sound advice so I will just lose the new pistol grip idea. Thanks guys. Regarding the new Rail System: When is that expected to be available? What is the real difference? I have read postings on here about what people consider a "proper" rail. Is it safe to assume those folks are correct and the stock rail is not the best? The only thing I plan on putting on there is a red dot reflex just for shits and giggles, but I plan on sticking with the iron's for at least a year until I am an absolute surgeon with every type of ammo I can find.
  22. I just realized the impact guns grip was for the actual M4 Assualt Rifle......my mistake. Still searching for a pistol grip option if anyone is aware. thanks.
  23. I have already ordered the Charging Handle from Brownells, the Release Pad from GG&G, and the Titanium extended Magazine from compcarrier; promised myself I would stop there, but am now thinking about a better pistol grip, anyone have solid input or experience with this? I live in Kalifornia, so we cant have the collapsible stock, so I must keep a fixed one on the weapon and just was wondering if there was any good ones out there that you guys have had experience with. So far, the only one I have found was on impactguns and was out of stock. Any advice is always appreciated. I am just looking for something that can hold up in the elements and still be lightweight, rugged, and mold to the fist. Thanks gents.
  24. I appreciate the thorough feedback. I am glad you provided those links, because I actually have both of those options already on my short list, so its good to know I am on the right track! Unfortunately the Charging handle is out of stock, but I will keep monitoring. But I am totally a fan of anything Titanium because of the weight and strength. Regarding the tube, I see exactly what you mean. Not only is a one peice tube a "must" upgrade, the cosmetic effect is very fluid and completes the weapon quite well. I was totally confused about the Tube Sizes because I saw the 10 round one on Dave's Metal Works, but I appreciate the clarification since those arent for the M4. Would you reccomend having a gunsmith swap out the Tubes? I dont want to shy away from it, but I dont have a Vice Grip (or access to one) or a heat gun. But, I am torn between being afraid someone may F' up the receiver with an open flame while heating up the bottom just to get the job done quickly, and just attempting to do it myself to use some TLC. What do you think? You got a Nice Weapon; the flat release button was something I was considering as well. I saw those pix on some other threads and wanted to do it, but was a bit discouraged only because of the difficulty you had. There was also some guy that used a 1911 Safety switch that looked pretty good, but again, I dont have access to Machinery, and dont know any local gunsmiths personally (yet.) The Charging Handle and One Peice Titanium tools are non negotiable upgrades that I intend to get ASAP.
