It's a waste of time to obsess over 922r. Everyone on this board will scare the daylights out of you talking about it, but I've never seen anyone that has brought forth a court record or arrest report ONLY charging someone with violating 922r. Unless you are going to throw your modded M4 in a very knowledgable ATF agent's face, how could this ever come back on you? It is a law that only applies to the Benelli by association. No US attorney is going to waste time prosecuting you because your Italian home defense shotgun doesn't have 3 American made parts on it. It is not a malicious crime and does not matter in the real world. Now if you go out and kill someone with your modded M4 or are caught trafficking weapons, you might get a 922r charge, but that would be the least of your worries at that point now wouldn't it?

I really doubt that you are going to find such information free and publicly available.

Great, something else for me to pay attention to that I probably never would have noticed otherwise.

I'm a big Eotech fan. But I don't want something that bulky on a shotgun. Also I'm real funny about having anything hanging off the left side of the gun that I would have to look around or over. Love the Eotechs on AR15s but I'm thinking low profile for the shotgun. I have looked at the Eotech MRDS however. Right, I realized that was your main issue. I just can't see any problem with mine. Like I said, I've tugged on this every way I know how and its staying tight all around. Gluing the rail would work, I'm sure, if any problems ever did come up. Yeah, that was my plan a couple of years ago. Then I began to realize how little I like the M4 ghost ring design anyway, so I never messed with it. I think for the quickest target acquisition, some sort of red dot will have to come into play. I've just got to decide whether to scrap the Scout light or buy a reflex. The Eolad recommendation above got me thinking even though I don't like that particular design. I wonder if there are any other options for mounting a laser on the top rail along with a red dot sight of some sort.

Also don't hate on me for the factory mag tube. I'm awaiting delivery of my tan tube from Kip!

SD - you've had a less than pleasurable experience with the BLAM4, but I have no complaints at this point. Maybe the tan coating on my M4 made the difference, maybe I happened to get a perfectly machined mount for my gun, or maybe CTG has made improvements since you purchased your mount. I'm totally satisfied that my BLAM4 is stationary and won't move. I've tugged on it pretty hard, and there is just no way this mount can shift with the way it fits my gun. Back on the sights, in pitch black with my light activated I cannot see the dots on my rear sight because all of the light is projected close to the muzzle. Probably wouldn't make a difference in the panic of home defense, but I want to be confident in the setup that I'm relying on to protect my home and family. Besides that, I just really don't like ghost sights. Also, thank you for explaining the problem with the factory top rail! I'm glad I know what to look for now.

Ok I'll get some pics posted. There was just a very small amout of wiggle with the rail pointed back, hardly enough to complain about but I'm pretty particular. And I'm talking left/right wiggle not fore/aft. It looked to me like this was caused by the "barrel notch" on the mount not being completely snug with the bottom of the barrel. When I flipped the rail forward, the notch on the other side of the BLAM4 snugged up perfectly with the barrel, eliminating all left & right wiggle. Just some machining differences I think. There was no fore & aft movement in either position. Pics on the way... ...also keep in mind that I do have the desert camo model so the coating probably makes the BLAM4 a little more snug compared to the black guns anyway.

Oh and one other monetary consideration: if I go with a reflex sight, is it absolutely necessary to replace the factory rail on the M4? Can it really do that much damage, or does it depend on what type of sight that you're using?

Hey, guys. I'm finally making progress on modding my desert camo M4 for home defense use. The main goal was to add a light and figure out some sort of alternative sighting option as I knew the factory sights wouldn't be of much use at night with the light activated. I'm very pleased with the BLAM4 mount for my light, but now it's time to decide if I should replace my Surefire Scout 600c with something like a Streamlight TLR-2 with integrated laser, or keep the Scout light and mount a good reflex style sight. On the one hand I would like to keep using the Scout light because it fits my application well and I'm very pleased with how I was able to position the pressure switch on the left side of my forearm for activation with my thumb. Besides that, I won't have any use for it if it isn't on the M4 plus it was an expensive light and now they seem to have fallen out of favor, so I doubt I could get much for it on the secondary market. On the other hand, most reflex sights are in the $400-550 range unless you want to drop down to something like the Burris Fastfire. So that makes keeping the Scout light a pretty expensive proposition. That said, the TLR-2 ain't exactly cheap either. Environment will mainly be indoors. It's my go-to gun if I have a break-in. There's a possibility that I might use it to engage a target in or around my detached garage or barn (longer range), but usually if I hear a bump outside I take an AR. Any opinions on which setup would suit me better? Advantages/disadvantages? Thanks!

Check out my post here for a recent review on the BLAM4 mount. It works perfectly for me with no movement whatsoever. I don't know if I got lucky and received a mount that was machined perfectly for my M4, or if some changes have been made to address the movement issue described in the OP. Either way, I'm very pleased with the purchase.

I received my BLAM4 today and just finished the install. I ordered directly from Corps Technology Group on Thursday night and had it in the mail today. I am very pleased with the install. I was worried about movement because of the other complaints, but I have zero movement or play with the mount installed on my desert camo M4. I did not have to use any super glue to keep the mount from moving. I installed with the rail on the right. At first I had the rail pointed back, and there was a very small amount of movement in this position. I then flipped the mount so that the rail was forward, and it fit very snug this way (just a slight difference in machining). This works better anyway as it gets my light closer to the muzzle. I am extremely pleased with this simple solution for mounting a light on my M4. The light (currently a Surefire Scout 600c) sits a little farther away from the mag tube/barrel than I would like, but I think it's necessary to make the mount this way for people who want to mount it with the rail pointed back toward the butt of the gun. Also with the Scout light mounted in the forward position, I still have enough slack in my pressure switch to stick it on the left side of the forearm for activation with my thumb. A+ for my application! Thanks for the input!

Those are awesome pics. Thanks werkes. Can someone elaborate on steel vs titanium? With titanium being lighter, will it cycle light loads better than a steel handle? Or if someone is going 1/2" anyway does it really matter?

So are you using the Briley tube mount in place of the BLAM4 mount? Or are these used in conjunction with each other?

I have found the BLAM mount that looks like it could work, but what is an inexpensive light to get for it? I really like the lights with an extended switch that I can turn on and off momentarily while holding the gun.

And please, no suggestions to use the search or google. I'm looking for solutions for the desert tan model so I can keep the original appearance of the gun. Everything in my search only came up with good ideas for the black model, where it doesn't matter if the forearm is modified because everything is black anyway.

Hey, guys. I am looking for an easy weapon light mounting system for the M4. Because I have the desert tan model, I don't want to change forearms or any other factory parts. I do have a full-length magazine tube coming from Kip. What options are out there? I'm either looking for a complete system with light, or just a mount that I can use for something like a Surefire Scout light. I also need an easy way to securely mount the light switch. Also as an aside - are there any comparable lights to the Surefire Scout that aren't as pricey? I already have one for my M&P-15 but don't want to have to fork out that much cash just for another light. Thanks for the help!

Why don't you email Impact Guns and Able's Ammo and tell them you think they are asking too much for this rifle? You are obviously a walking blue book of gun values, instantly knowing the proper price for any given firearm.
