SBE2 Pad?

A friend of mine bought his SBE2 a couple of years ago. I just bought mine and we were comparing the two. The only difference we can tell is mine has the HD camo and his is not HD, but his pad is thicker than mine. Did they change the stocks or pads? Both were bought new in the box.

Benelli extended the stock of the 2008 SBEII by about 3/8" so the 14 LOP pad gives about a 14 3/8" LOP. Benelli had requests for a longer LOP on the SBEII and they could not successfully make a gel pad longer than the 14 3/8" pad so they lengthened the stock. I just switched to a 10401 LimbSaver and it is great. Much better than the stock 14" LOP and about the same thickness. Tape the edges of the stock insert on the 10401 to make it fit tightly in the extended stock. The LimbSaver 10400 is a bit thinner than the 10401 and I have not tried it on my SBEII as yet.

I also remember seeing an earlier post indicating the stock change. However, curiosity moved me to check my 2008 (proof mark "CC") SBEII and compared the pad with the photos on the Benelli USA site. It is clearly the largest ComforTech recoil pad available, listed as 14 3/8" LOP.

I then measured the LOP on my gun at exactly 14 3/8" to the center, "high" side of the end of the recoil pad.

While this stock change may have occurred, it doesn't look like it happened with my gun.

That actually confirms what the Benelli specialist told me. She said that the stock had been extended in the "latest batch" of SBEII. I spoke with her in December before I bought my gun when I noticed the pad difference between my 20 ga Super Sport and the 2008 SBEII that I ended up buying. I checked out all three of the 2008 SBEII at Gander Mountain and all had the 14 LOP pad on the stock. All of the new SBEII that are showing up where I purchased my SBEII also have the 14 LOP. It looks like the change occurred sometime during the 2008 SBEII production run.

Blackdogs3,

Thanks for the additional information. While it might have been explained in the original thread where I saw it mentioned, posts in this thread lead me to believe that all 2008's had the stock modification with shorter pad. I only checked mine because I was concerned the change might limit my options since the 14 3/8" LOP is about the max I can take and I might, at some point, want to try a shorter pad. After I checked mine, I naturally wondered if the info was accurate. :)
