You will need some snap ring pliers, with those it will be a piece of cake. I bought a pair at bLowe's, made by Channelock, they have different size tips and do both inside and outside snap rings by changing a lever position.

Agreed, trying to take a snap ring off without snap ring pliers is like trying to open a bag of chips with one hand.

Be very careful when installing the tacstar. It will squeeze the receiver if you tighten it too much and will cause the bolt carrier to bind when cycling to the rear. So your goal is to find a medium where it won't squeeze but won't shake loose.

 

Good luck. I scrapped mine and went with the SideArmor unit.
