Case
I thought she had a problem cycling the slide? That Wilson Combat is a sweet, sweet 1911 but from what I understand you're giving someone that doesn't like range time a SAO weapon so she'll have to be very comfortable working the slide and the hammer if she wants to clear it on her own. You know your girl best but I'd get an auto with a decocking lever if I were shopping for someone that didn't like to practice. One man's opinion. On the other hand, that CQB is niiiiiice. Ok made up my mind. going with Wilson combat compact CQB. killing two birds with one stone. I always wanted a "cool" 1911 and she shoots them alot better than my plastic guns so its a win win. now if Benelli ever made a M4 in 20 gauge that might be the way to go for her

I will admit it might not be the best for her but it worked pretty good at the range and I have no other ideas and I will be honest I always wanted a cool 1911,lol Edited August 28, 2012 by ROCKETW19
paladinjme
I have HK usp 9mm and my wife has a bit of a time with the recoil she pushes down when pulling trigger. And, uhm...this whole thread started primarily because she was 'recoil sensitive' with a 9mm...so you're choosing a .45?? I smell ulterior motive all over this thread..."Hey honey, *they* said I should get a Wilson .45 for you, yeah they are $2500, but aren't *you* worth it!?!?!?" ...good one

I would guess the trigger helps to but not sure for her.

I own a USP 9 and own and have shot plenty of 1911's - although not a Wilson - and you're right there is a difference in the 'felt' recoil with a majority of the weight of the USP being in the slide and high above the shooters hand vs. having more mass at and below the hand. ROCKETW19
yes USP 9mm is exact gun I am talking! belive me I started out thinking a 380 found out fast they flip even more cuz of weight. then thought 32 but before i got to into that the Wilson was a pretty good hit. So of coarse I will go with it as I can now justify it (sorta) I can shoot it yet still feel safe when not at home that she can take care of buisness if needed My main goal is someday have her shoot my M4 but I just doubt it she tiny and scared of it. Case
Same issue here: I had hoped that my girl would be able to shoot the m4 too but it's too heavy for her to wield. The recoil is mild with 2 3/4" #1 buck loads but she can't keep the gun on target. Too heavy. *sigh* So I'm in a similar situation with the pistol, trying to find something that is manageable for her but will also enable her to hold the fort down when I'm away. And she's not a fan of range time either. Trying to find something she can get comfortable with. My main goal is someday have her shoot my M4 but I just doubt it she tiny and scared of it. benelliwerkes
Here's what the little lady of the house has on the bedside table. 357 Mag, ported barrel, crimson laser........and a bright light!!! A hammerless revolver has the merits of not handicapping the occasional user with a concern about "all the switches" found on a semi-auto.....they can't accidentally drop the magazine when they hit the magazine release when the depress it in the heat of the moment.....then those guns with the magazine disconnect are useless....the laser targeting obviates the user having to acquire a proper sight alignment and sight picture......red dot / shoot the shot !.........only after clearly seeing the bad person with a bright LED light....the laser obviates direct confrontation with the bad guy.....concealment / cover behind any portal in the house or over the edge of the mattress.....no bad guy is going to linger about after the first round is discharged.......keep it simple for the girls. Practice with .38 special and load with .357 magnum...10-25 rounds very few months.....like riding a bicycle. The book title was chosen just for fun.....installed magnets in the hard cover to keep it securely encased.....even the maids think it's just a book she's never finished! Its easy to say goto the range take classes ect. but in real life she has kick ass job, 2.5 kids to takes care of 4000sq ft house to clean. ect ect ect. just getting baby sitter to goto rang is bad enough, lol I already went with the Wilson but if she didnt go that way I was gonna look into 20G shotgun but to me it is easyer to keep a hand gun safe and quick to get. hope it works out for ya bro. I will say the 45 small grip was not to bad for my wife maybe start there and see.

benelliwerkes
Of course.....a few examples to have around the house......any of the "S" SureFire models will have the strobe feature...these examples range from 200 - 500 lumens.....plenty bright to disorient the adversary and give you the split second advantage.
benelliwerkes
............do they make a strobe flash light? Know that a strobe feature is a 2-edged sword........everyone in the illumination field has to deal with the strobing feature.....to the adversary it's supposed to be disorienting (as though the bright LED is not enough).....and in part to conceal the exact location of the source of the strobe (that would be the operator GPS location)......using common sight alignment / sight picture technique in the setting of a flashing strobe can be problematic for the operator unaccustomed to doing so....this is a situation wherein a laser accessorized weapon can be an advantage for the operator in placing the "dot" on the target. There is no free lunch.

You can reduce the weight of the M4 by using a Titanium mag tube, it will also shift the center of gravity back just a bit making it easier for her to hold. In terms of handguns, the HK P7M8 is the way to go, provided she can cycle the slide.
benelliwerkes
Here's a few more from the inventory that have more demerits than advantages for most ladies, in my opinion. The P30 feels good, adjustable backstrap for their smaller hands, but burdened with levers / switches that the occasional user finds intimidating or can render the gun almost useless if not properly managed (in the dark under adverse stressful conditions). The P2000Sk has plenty of knock down, but like the .40, the recoil is way to snappy for most ladies. The P7 is nice, but has switches......the hardest thing is for the ladies grip size and strength; to depress the cocker with just 3 fingers without quickly tiring and the grip is kinda of large for most gals to feel like they can comfortably hold / control the gun. The P7 shoots like a dream. Anyone interested in the P7, I have a Anatomy Series Manual for it that is really nice. benelliwerkes
RocketW19 was mostly interested in 380......got side tracked on last few posts.......the Sig p238 is a great .380 auto, like a 1911 mini-me (but has switches).......the Ruger LCP is also nice, that easy light, double action, no switches and not expensive. If not the larger revolver, perhaps a pocket gun with adequate kick would do and not break the bank.
ROCKETW19
lol holly gun porn Benelliworks I love it thanks. I already went with the Wilson Combat CQB compact. I like plastic guns like the next person but you just went to the next level, lol got anymore pictures? the P30 does look like a saml grip but as i already have usp 9 that she can not shoot (to snappy) the push of the wilson feels nicer to her even with bigger cal. I always wanted a nice 1911 so it killed two birds with 3000 bucks, lol

I think I am gonna get at least 1 more of them but this time just for me,lol what is you favorite gun (handgun) of all? better yet maybe 1 of each hand, long and shotgun. ROCKETW19
I actually looked at that ruger as it has a lil laser that mounts to the front. what is your take on lasers and home Dfence? woth it? silly?
benelliwerkes
........ what is your take on lasers and home Dfence? woth it? silly? The best response might be to partition the response.......there are those that dedicate a lot of time and energy and expense in training to respond to a personal defense situation and understand all the permutations of options and Plans A/B/C etc for self-defense......whereas those that exhibit only a casual interest in the topic until SHTF, should be afforded the best opportunity to succeed in the moment of need........the employment of a laser guided gun significantly truncates the learning curve of delivering a result on target and therefore meets their immediate needs ! The cost justification of a quality laser equipped self-defense platform is hard to quantify when the device may never be used, however when it is needed and used just once its value is incalculable. She's worth every penny.

She's worth every penny. ya I am not loaded with cash that is for sure but one time purchases dont bug me lol Ijust bought a 3000 dollar gun for a girl that will use it 6-10 time per year. couple hundered more for a laser I think I can do. besides I would kill myself if something happened to my kids and if a laser gives her 1% more chance of solving the problem I will get it no problem. I read alot of the self proclaimed "operators" on these sites saying this and that nothing is better than training with navy seals like I do ect bla bla. but they are the same nerds I see at the range that can not hit the paper target 10yrd away. its my wife she is a house mom has a job kids to take care of ect getting to the range is limited. She not joining the special forces anytime soon. that is why I posted this thread here most of you guys seem bright (at least you guys can spell and use periods and commas) but i value you opinions so if you think it will help a house wife protect my kids I will get one. benelliwerkes
The closure on the laser deal is taking her to range......let her shoot 10 shots at 3-7 yards with the same gun, with / without the laser ........sold !
