M1014 Barrel for M4

Hopefully some experts here can help me out. I picked up an extra barrel for my M4. When the seller told me it doesn't use chokes, I was hoping it was an M1014 Barrel. It arrived yesterday and definitely is from a M1014.

Is it safe to use on my M4 ? There is two slight differences

M4 barrel has a ring where it seats in the receiver, m1014 does not.

 

M4 barrel has an extra piece, almost like a wing ,at the very end that is right near the bolt carrier

I did sit it on the receiver and tighten it up, functions fine, just don't want to shoot any rounds until I hear from the experts.

Thanks for your expert input. Do you know what that little extra "wing" is for on the M4 ?. It does seat well into the receiver and locks down with the magazine cap.

I'm not sure what the wing's intention was other than possibly some lateral support. The ring was mainly a visual aid for users seating the barrel to ensure that it was fully seated.
