Loved the 577 t rex video. Not like shoothing a slug though. I showed the video to some frineds and we are of the opinion we would at least have to try to shoot one once in our life time.

D.E. 50s arent so bad. its like a hot 44 mag. try a 500 S&W. im reading an article on the 577, and it failed to drop a bull elephant from less than 50 away. the author said he turned and ran. it took a follow up with a 600 to do the job. and no folks, a 12 0r 10ga slug wouldnt do it either. the key on elephants is "penatration" . it says in the article that to get an actual "brain shot" on an elephant, he must have his head at somewhat of a downward angle to achieve the penatration necessary to drop him, vs a glancing blow.

I don't know a whole lot about Safari type African game hunting. Could you drop a bull elephant with a barrett? My gut is telling me yes.

oh yea, without any problem. a 50 bmg fires a full metal jacket bullet that weighs 650-800grs, @2700-3100fps. the thing is the bullet wouldnt mushroom,so im thinking you would still have to hit him in a vital area.

Man it's hard to believe a .50 kicks less then a 12Ga slug, but the gun is so heavy that it isn't TOO hard to believe.

overall length is almost 60", with a 31" barrel. kick is that of a 25-06/270.

The thing that sucks about a .50 is the price of Ammunition. Can't go out and shoot it for fun like i can with my rifle, where as i can buy 450 rounds of surplus for 140.00
