kevnmc Posted August 23, 2008 Share Posted August 23, 2008 I'm looking at purchasing the Super Nova Slug because I will be mostly deer hunting but like the idea of being able to switch over barrels for tactical or bird hunting. My question is can I buy the above gun new with the cantilever scope mount on the barrel like it says in the video? If not, is it a big deal to remove a scope when mounted on the receiver? Nikolai552 Posted August 23, 2008 Share Posted August 23, 2008 All i have on my SuperNova is a tactical barrel, and i have had great success with slugs, being that it is smooth bore, you obviously only use rifled slugs. I have been using 3" Federal Power-Shok rifled slugs and can hit a tomato at 50 yards. I have the fixed rifle sights too. How far do you plan on shooting a deer at? 75 yards? 50 yards? Novaking Posted August 24, 2008 Share Posted August 24, 2008 Yes you can buy the nova with the slug barrel. But if you need a field barrel down the road, you might have a hard time finding one. You will have a better chance buying a nova with a field barrel and buying separate slug barrel. You have find them easiler. Unobtanium Posted August 24, 2008 Share Posted August 24, 2008 Affordable = Nova If you can = M4 At 25 yards with my M4 and cheap winchester Power Point slugs I can shoot clover-leafs at 25 yards. At 50 yards I can keep them all in an 8" circle. GOod enough for me. Another vote for the M4. Even if you DON'T go M4, the Benelli shotgun with a smooth bore is going to be good with slugs compared to other brands due to the smaller bore diameter benelli uses. Using a Federal Tru slug will do wonders. I say stay smoothbore and forget the rifled barrel. Buckshot does POOR in a rifled barrel, slugs do well in smoothbore. No-brainer. But I have a few question that I just cant seem to figure out. The gun has a 28" barrel what kind of ammo can I shoot. I bought it to deer hunt but it seems now that it may be a bird gun. I have also read that I can buy a rifeled choke and shoot a slug...is this true? According to the barrel I can shoot 2 3/4" 3" and 3 1/2" steel or led shot. But I do not know if I can shoot a slug. Novaking Posted September 2, 2008 Share Posted September 2, 2008 Hey, welcome. First, you should start a new thread. Your kind of stealing the thunder from the other guy. Second, You bought a tank. 28'' barrel is kind of a bird gun. Can you shoot slugs though it. YES. Can you get a rifle choke for it. YES. You can shoot any type of ammo in the nova. (caliber 12 gauge). Did if come with chokes? which ones? Improved cylinder and modifed nova chokes can shoot steel and lead. Full chokes you can't shoot steel but lead in ok. The 18 1/2 tactical barrel will help only because it as sights on the barrel. Benelli makes rifled barrels for the Nova as well. The only problem you will have with buying a new barrel is it will cost more than the gun. The rifled barrel with be 219-249 and I don't know if you can find a tactical barrel. I'm not one the shoot a slug though a (field barrel) which is what you have. Some people will tell you different and say that its ok. I just don't think field barrels can handle the pressure of a slug. I would say suck it up and spend the money on a rifled barrel. You will be more accurate with this barrel. But I'm just one person. Someone else will tell you different and it won't be the wrong answer their. congrats on your new purchase. Let us know what you do. splashtx556ftw Posted September 2, 2008 Share Posted September 2, 2008 if you shoot "rifled" slugs you dont need a rifled choke . you would need a rifled choke to shoot sabot slugs. sabots are hour glass shaped slugs with no riflings on them.riled slugs have the riflings on them to make it spin with contacting the smooth bore of your gun. and you can use that 28" barrel for everything under the sun. nice buy, by the way.
