  1. I have been thinking of buying a camo Supernova to use turkey hunting. What kind of pattrerns are you guys getting out of it?I have been using the Winchester Extended Range Hi-Density and a Jellyhead tube in my SBE,wondering how this combination works in the Supernova?I know each barrel is different but law of averages say there is a combo that works pretty good in the majority of them! Thanks for any help you can give!
  2. I like the beartooth camo in some ways and in others I dont!It does a pretty good job of protecting your gun from dings but it has a semi slick finish on it,I suppose thats because of the camo material they adhere to the neoprene liner. It is pretty tough to get into position but doesnt slide when you get it there. The part I didnt like was having to cut part of the barrel cover for the sights. If you are using an optic and mount this wouldnt be a problem.I also wish they had a cover for the receiver, this is the part that really needs the camo anyway. All in all,I prefer the beartooth over the other covers and would recommend it if you didnt want or already have a camo gun!I have used tape and the socks also, the beartooth is better in my opinion!Hope it helps!
  3. I have been looking at buying a new Supernova to turkey hunt with, but have no experience with the Steadygrip or the ComforTech stocks. This gun would be a dedicated turkey gun! I have been using an older SBE,a blue/wood model and hate to beat it up in the woods turkey hunting.I do use the beartooth camo cover for some protection from dings!I also have to take the sights off of the SBE in the fall, since it is my spare gun,(dont want to carry the tools to remove the sights)when I go to SD hunting pheasants. I really would like to have a dedicated turkey gun but wonder if the Supernova is gonna perform like my SBE with the jellyhead tube, and would like to hear your opinions on the Steadygrip and the ComforTech stocks!
  4. Upland ,the shot size for pheasants remains a debate in whatever crowd you are in!My dad has been hunting pheasants for lil over 40 years,me for a lil over 20.We have used a little bit of every combination, from 2 3/4 high power to 3in mags,4 shot to 6 shot.I havent used 7 1/2,though at close range and fast enough I suppose they would work.I have tried #4 shot and didnt like it because it pulled so many feathers inside the bird and close range shots cut the bird up alot!I have loaded #5's and #6's and they work fine, still gotta be careful with those shooting close and tighter chokes.I love to reload the shells I hunt with, but until recently,I discovered the newer Federal Wingshok 1500 fps 1 1/4 # 6 load and IC choke in my Legacy. This load has alot of energy with the fast speed but the smaller #6 shot has the density and doesnt pull the feathers in so bad.It will kill the birds if you hit them!I was really impressed with this load.If the birds are coming up really wild you can use the #5 shot load and IC or mod choke if the shots are really long.Adding the velocity to the smaller shot sizes really boosts performance. The Remington Nitro Pheasant load is nearly as fast and works about as well.I have used both. They both are relatively inexpensive, bout $12 a box depending where you buy them. The birds we hunt are all wild birds, some even the old tough hill birds from around Chamberlain around the Missouri river!Whatever you use shoot straight and you will kill em!Good luck to ya!
