  1. Gotta be careful with that receiver. Getting it too hot (especially for long periods of time) can potentially alter the molecular structure of the aluminum, decreasing its integrity.
  2. Fair enough point. Allow me to be a bit more general. Let's say within shotgun range.....
  3. So, as usual, I will use this trusty forum to help me decide on a purchase. EOTechs are popular on an M4. This is obvious to anyone that frequents this place. I know they're large, they sit high, and someone told me they're a little fuzzy when you look through them - although I cannot say, I have never looked. I also know they're holographic sight is out of this world, and the quality of the optic is supposed to be superb. Particularly, the 553 is supposedly the best. Now onto Aimpoint. The Comp M4 is supposed to be amazing. This I have looked at (and through), and it looks great. Looks like a quality piece as well. A different approach here though, of course only having a single dot to acquire your target. So, in terms of CQB use, let me have it. Your thoughts and opinions are appreciated. While we're at it, for completeness, I might as well throw in the Trijicon ACOG Reflex....and any other sighting systems you may have on your mind.
  4. Good to know, Duggan, thanks. I will go hit him up for the others this weekend.
  5. This is whacky. Anyone have a reason for why some M4s are coming in the box with a variety of chokes, others with only an IC, and some with only a modified (as in my case)? Very interesting.....do our friends in Italy draw straws or play rock paper scissors on these decisions?
  6. Then you will want to stick with what's in the box. No extended choke. Congrats.....have fun with it. What a beautiful piece it is
  7. More of the well-seasoned shotgunners on this forum will undoubtedly answer this call, but what I can offer is that the M4 comes with (I believe) a modified choke (three X marks on the side - this is what mine came with). This is not an extended choke. If the extended choke you speak of is what I think it is, then this will pertrude out beyond the muzzle, allowing you to screw on a muzzle break, which is commonly used when breaching doors (and some people install them for looks). Your call if this is what you want. Personally, I hesitate to add any more length to the barrel than is already there, because I like my M4 to be as light and nimble as possible. Some will argue the extra weight at the end will help minimize muzzle flip. Good point, if you're worried about that. Hope this helps.
  8. Yeah, I can't freaking remember. I recall something about local laws about barrel length something blah blah.....
  9. Not even close to worth it. I might advise to get another shotgun closer to what you describe. I do seem to recall someone on this forum having a barrel over 20 inches on their M4 (was it Caligvla? Tucker? I just don't recall). Maybe they can respond and let you know what they have done.
  10. Sarge, CQB = Close Quarters Battle. A real popular acronym these days because of all the urban warfare going on to the east.
  11. Funny you mention high vel copper coated #4. I just got 50 rounds of exactly that.... In terms of a shotgun vs. MG in CQB, lots of well-experienced guys would toast to that effect. Thanks again for the info. Good chatting with ya.
  12. I'm really looking forward to clay shooting too. I've been told by several now the the M4 is quite fun for that. Thanks for the comments on the EO.
  13. Man, that really sounds good. How do you like the EOTech? A guy at the gun shop said it sits quite tall and can lead to head positions that are not quite natural. He recommended the Aimpoint micro, which is nice, but I'm still leaning toward the EO. I love the holographic image.
  14. Thanks for the info. Looking forward to hearing how it's working for you.
  15. Could you write a post and let us know how you like that M80 after you've put a few rounds through the M4? I've been holding out on the Mesa tactical fore rail system, but I'm starting to get the same feeling I had as a kid waiting for Santa to show up in the living room.
  16. Awesome....an English professor with a shotgun!!!!
  17. What's the mag capacity? How's the spread (let's say 00 buck) at 50 and 100 ft? What is the barrel length? Yeah, I like it.....

    M4CQB

    here's an answer --- that's badass.
  19. LOL - yeah, you haven't been "sworn" in yet with enough posts..... I can't seem to access the page you supplied the URL for. Could you please check that out? It tells me 'permission denied...' Could you possibly supply me with the path I take from, say the Carnegie Mellon Computer Science home page? Not sure why an ATF law is sitting within this site.......
  20. Well, that's extraordinarily interesting. I don't know what the **** is going on. Let me take a look at where I found this 922r code that I posted and see how dated it is. Is it possible that I (most of us) have been looking at code that is outdated? That is, pre-post-AWB? Thanks for pointing this out, and I hope you're right.
  21. Hey man, you're in luck on the case suggestion. I researched this pretty well for my M4. My suggestion, by far, is the Pelican 1750. It's rugged, FAA approved, air-tight, water-tight, dust-tight, and the thing even floats if you ever drop it overboard during one of your overseas excursions It comes with flat foam that you can cut yourself specifically to fit the M4 like a glove, and there is room in there for other things too, like optics, lights, whatever. They give you very simple and effective instructions on how to cut the foam. Easy. This will run you about $185 online. I got mine through Boss, Inc. As for the cleaning kit, not sure. I am going to get a bore snake soon, as I have one for .45 and 9 mm and they work quite well. I'm sure others can chime in on this.
  22. Yeah, but that AA-12 is still one bad MF. The street sweeper is a BB gun next to that thing....the amazing thing is the manufacturer claims the entire weapon is self-cleaning. They claim that after some enormous number of rounds fired with absolutely no maintenance, it still worked flawlessly. Don't get me wrong, the M4 rules in terms of what I am capable of owning.
  23. Thanks for the advice. To all of you. Doesn't sound like the M4 has many issues with ammo (surprise, surprise).
  24. Thanks all for your thoughts and feedback. I simply find it hard to believe that installing +2 extensions are a federal offense, since at least a half a dozen companies are making them and selling them all over the country specifically for the M4. Obviously this is does not prove legality, but I also don't believe they're just burying their head in the sand and presuming all the people that are ordering them are either LE or have registered their M4 as an NFA firearm. An analogy would be if someone from CA tried to order high-capacity pistol mags. Most (if not all) companies will refuse to ship them, knowing it's illegal in CA to own them. Now, 922R and the CGA are federal laws, but the point is the same. Anyway, I'm not done with this. I am going to try to talk to several companies, even Benelli USA about this, and maybe even a pro-gun rights attorney. I would try to deal with the ATF, but I know that will be a looooooong process and in the end I will likely get nothing but boiler-late jargon (no offense to any ATF agents - it's the system, not you). Thanks again fellas, and if there is anyone out there who knows for sure whether Benelli USA is in fact exempt from 922R because they hold the right FFL (or whatever), please post.
