  1. You will be amazed at how clean the barrel remains in shooting sabots. In sighting in my M2 and to end of season (one shot - one kill) there was only minimal plastic fouling after cleaning post hunt. I cycled a total of 21 shells and I made the core-lokt ultra's my choice (I've got a thing for velocity). I don't believe the tolerances for a shotgun barrel pushing a hard plastic sabot are anything as close as a rifle, so fouling should'nt be an issue. I don't know how barrel heating could affect your group though... I gave my gun cool down time while walking down range & back to mark groups. Please let me know what you end up using. I'm looking forward to shooting some of the new capped slugs.
  2. Hey all... I just patterned my M2 and found that I hit high when pulling up and firing as though I was taking a flushed bird. In order to get a good 60/40 pattern I have to really get down on the stock with my cheek. Oe'r the years I've been through a 12ga 870 WM and a 12ga 1100 and never had to get so tight that it smacked my cheekbone. When I shoot I typically bead directly on the bird (or it's lead), so would you recommend that I shim my gun to drop the POI, or not change the gun set-up and start beading just below the bird (seeing the whole target) similar to what's done by trapshooters? It's obviously a matter of preference, but I'm interested to see what the senior members think... Thank's for your advice.

  4. Good for you Nikolai552. Put the hurt on the big buck!
  5. I'm with Timb99... I can't speak for the 1187's but I started shooting with an inherited 870 Wingmaster and graduated to an 1100. My Son and I have pounded tons of rounds through those gun's (slug & shot). I learned my lessons on the proper way to clean & maintain these guns. You should be able to come across some pretty good deals this time of year with people trading up to Benelli's Get to know your gun INSIDE and OUT and only use premium solvents and lubricants. Before you know it you'll be out in the field loving every minute of it. As far as the guy who bought a Mossberg and never cleaned it for 25 years... Well let's just say it was a match made in heaven.
  6. My Nikon 2x7x32mm on top of my M2 APG HD camo 12ga slug gun worked great during last year's MN deer season (I gave you some details in a private message).
  7. I started out buying the M2 slug gun first and then the bird barrel. I called Benelli to get the correct part number and then asked for phone numbers for their authorized dealers. I then followed up with each one of those for best prices. Make sure to sound surprised and then depressed when you hear of what they're charging and they may come down on price or refer you to another dealer. That's what happened with me and I got the best deal from a phone order only shop (Mansoms or something like that)... $500 including shipping. Sorry I lost the name & number... I love my Gun!
  8. Does anybody know if Benelli or any of their authorized dealers sell the little plastic plugs that come installed in the scope mounting holes of their slug guns?
