  1. Yeah that's what I was thinking in the fog of my 4th cup of coffee...it sounds like his gun is perfectly normal to me...
  2. It may just be early, (my brain doesn't stir until at least 10am), but that sounds like it's doing what it's supposed to do, (if I read it right)...I'm sitting here with my Super Nova Tactical now...I push the release, draw back the slide, move it back into battery, squeeze the trigger and the bolt unlocks, allowing me to cycle the action and feed another round...Are you saying that the bolt does not stay locked while it's in battery before you pull the trigger? If that;s the case, then it's not normal, but the action is supposed to let go after you fire....
  3. While they are certainly no secret, HK's seem to be often overlooked by some. Which is fine - leaves more for the rest of us. I had a chance while in NH over the weekend to check out an HK45. Superb weapon, but for me, the USP45 is a better fit for my big gorilla mitts. Surprisingly, my trigger is smoother, though the HK45 was brand new and barely broken in. Everyone has their preference, but the HK USP45 is in my view, the top of the food chain when it comes to 45ACP. I like a nice 1911 and really like the Sig220, but LOVE the HK USP45 - just stellar.
  4. Must be the weather. While my list is not impressive, it works for me... Minty HK USP 45 & extra mags. Benelli Super Nova Tactical & a Friday MO to Cody for an OEM extension AR lower and LPK. Still pondering upper....
  5. It's like here in Massachusetts, we are still under the 94 AWB, (REPUBLICAN MITT ROMNEY) made sure it never sunsetted here, (remember that when you go to the polls) - he's a traitor to the 2nd Amendment... Anyway, ask any cop - from local PD to State Trooper, if he really cares if your 30rd mag is preban or not...The resounding answer is "no"... One LEO I know put it best: "If I pulled you over and noticed you had brand new Beta Mags and new P-Mags, (both illegal here) and you were cool - I'd be cool. If I pulled you over and noticed you had those mags and you were a douche, then all bets are off.... Bottom line: Live your life for Gods sake...Most cops could give two turds about 922r.....
  6. I adore the MCS - it puts your optics right in line with your noggin. I live in the middle of nowhere and am on dial-up, but next time I'm in a hot spot I'll post some pics. Before the MCS, I had cheek-weld issues with my Trijicon Tripower on the front rail until I bought a LaRue LT-150 "low"... I also used a LaRue SPR in reverse to hang a Millet DMS over my receiver - worked great. Cheek-weld and optics is always going to be an issue with a standard M14 stock without a cheek pad and I found that issue similar with the SAGE and VLTOR. All that changed when I got the MCS. The Troy BattleRail may be a game changer, as it removes your rear sight and the mount attaches to the sight wings, (as in the MCS). This will put your cheek weld in line with your optics - especially on a low mount. I understand that with the Ultimak, forward mounted red-dot sights "almost" cowitness with optics mounted low... The SOCOM is a boomstick ain't it?
  7. Yeah, we had a shoot a few weeks ago and it was a blast, (pun intended). It was a pretty controlled environment - rifle range at the 100-yard berm. Tannerite is perfectly legal in most states, (but it's a question here behind enemy lines). We had our shoot in New Hampshire - a free state. The small jars are anti-climactic - neat, but I think pumpkins filled with it will be quite fun...
  8. Good stuff! I'm not sure where you are, but if you ever find yourself wandering in Western Massachusetts, drop me a PM. Another forum I belong to has members shoots. We do car shoots and are having a tannerite pumpkin shoot in November...You'd have a blast...(pardon the pun).... I was a hairs breath from an M4...We get ProDeals from Benelli. The price is nail biting low...I'm due another one in 2010, so I'm saving now.
  9. Uhhh...Yeah, well that was the point of the test. Remington markets these shells as "Ultimate Home Defense" - not goose or rabbit loads... I didn't buy it when I bought them and buy it even less now that I've shot them. Not everyone - especially a new shooter may be as skeptical as you and I. As to Brenneke - don't be so sure it was the slugs and not the shooter. I was having fun. The first of the Brenneke slugs hit center, (#1 in the red, #2 immediately to it's left). I was having fun - the last three were a result of me grinning.... I'm sure you're a whiz-bang with your M4, but (A), I was doing an informal test in the sunshine and (B), the targets are not full-size silhouettes - their size is representative of center mass - this ain't Camp Perry... If you'd like to swing by for more formal testing, I'm game....
  10. LOL - that they are, but we're not talking bunnies now are we? Just for fun, I took the liberty of sending some Brenneke KO's down range and was absolutely impressed. Talk about an accurate and hard-hitting rifled slug. Brenneke markets them as sabots for both smooth and rifled barrels, though their definition of a sabot in this case is more like a "pusher" rather than a dedicated separating sabot found in rifled-only rounds. Sabot means "shoe", so this is more like a sandal... For this test, I went back to the firing line and shot the below group at 50-yards. Accuracy was quite good - really good if you ask me. Recoil was crisp, but exceptionally manageable out of the Super Nova tactical. This has not been my experience firing these out of a Remington 870, which highlights the Benelli's superb recoil management - even without the ComforTech stock. They absolutely slammed the 50-yard berm - obliterating it in a cloud of dust. The stats are a 1oz hunk of slug cruising at just under 1510fps - ouchie. Though I found the pushers behind the target board, the slugs were buried deep within the berm - these pups pack a wallop... The last thing I did was just for kicks. I cranked off the four remaining rounds of Buckmaster as fast as I could cycle it - again at 50-yards. Not too shabby for a guy just cranking off some 00-buck in the autumn sunshine. The Super Nova tactical is everything I thought it would be, (and then some). I am looking forward to buying Cody's OEM +2 and ordering a Mesa Tactical saddle/rail for this most excellent defensive tool...The Remington Ultimate HD left me unimpressed, though perhaps further testing lies ahead - I still have 8-rounds left anyway.... 11. Today being just a stellar autumn day here in the mountains of Western Massachusetts, I decided it was time to do some informal testing of a relatively new home defense round marketed by Remington. Noted on the box as: "Wingmaster HD Ultimate Home Defense", how could I not give it a try? To run this test, I measured out a room space of about 15-feet. Sadly, that put me into a muck-pile, so I measured to 20-feet for the purposes of this test. When I got home, I measured the distance from my bedroom door, to the entrance to my living room and low and behold: 19-feet 9-inches, so my 20-foot measurement was not too far off - at least for me... First, these puppies are not cheap. At over $2.00 a whack, they are anything but easy on the wallet. Secondly, the "Wingmaster HD", just makes me feel like these are nothing more than 2 3/4 high-brass BB goose loads, but what do I know? Remington claims that the HD rounds will hold a tight pattern at most commonly encountered home defense distances and rate the load of tungsten BB shot at 1200fps. They do not however list energy at impact. The shells themselves are very smooth to fire - they feel almost "low recoil", though they are not marketed this way. This due in large part to the Benelli Super Nova Tactical I just acquired being likely the lightest recoiling pump gun I've ever fired out of the box. At exactly 20-feet, I took at shot with the Remington HD on one target and standard Remington 00-Buck on the other. The results are shown below: The spread at 20-feet is troubling to me. I am no impact physics engineer, nor am I an ammunition expert. The rounds just felt "soft" to me and the pattern, though I'm sure would be troubling - perhaps lethally so to a would-be intruder, I was left wondering if these rounds were really "Ultimate HD"? The pellets impacted the berm behind the target board, (spongy pressboard), with a smattering of dust kicked up at impact. the Remington Buckmaster however, tore through the target and slammed into the berm with authority - temporarily obscuring the target in a cloud of dust. I would love to give these a try in a more controlled environment with some ballistic gel and some clothing fabric. The "Ultimate HD", just didn't feel...well...ultimate. They tag line these rounds with: "Don't Trust Your Families Safety to Anything Else"... I think I'll stick with good old 00 for now thanks anyway - I have been trusting my families safety with 00-buck for years, but am always open to new ideas and I am an ammo pig, so will likely try other fodder...
  12. While you're looking into the excellent M8 rail, I might suggest you also look into another stellar option from Troy Industries. The M14 BattleRail, while more pricey, offers a rock-solid option for mounting optics to your Scout Squad. it's less expensive option for those who want to add a rail system, but do not want to invest in a total stock system. I cannot recommend the Troy MCS enough. After using a Sage, (also excellent), I can say that for me, the Troy MCS transformed my rifle. It's not cheap by any means, but it took the Sage concept and propelled it. In any case, enjoy your rifle and if not the MCS or M8, give the Troy BattleRail a look-see... http://store.troyind.com/M14_BattleRail_p/sm14-tbr-b0bt-00.htm
  13. Nice report - I have been running my SOCOM-16 wit a Tripower on deck and a Troy MCS wrapped around it for quite some time. It's become my favorite rifle...
  14. +1...I just picked up an HK USP45 last week, (virtually unobtainium her in Massachusetts). I won't start a war about boldly stating "it's the best", but for me personally, it is...I absolutely adore this gun. Everything about the USP45 just fits me....
  15. I hear you about time Hookster...I was chomping at the bit to get to the range today, but no dice...Will try again tomorrow. The SNT is loaded with what my prior shotguns have always been loaded with: Good old fashioned 00-buck. However, I am always game to try and read about something new. Based on just reading about the "Ultimate Home Defense" rounds, they seem to be glorified goose loads, as they are labeled "Wingmaster". Not sure how effective BB shot would be in a self-defense scenario, but Remington likely either knows a lot more about the subject, is into some creative marketing, or maybe even a combination of both... By the way - enjoy your SOCOM-16. I have had mine for years and absolutely adore it. I have added quite a bit to it over the past couple of years and she now rides in a Troy MCS...It's my go-to rifle. Hope you enjoy yours even half as much....
  16. Hookster - looking forward to your tests. I will be testing the Remington Ultimate HD. It's not 00 Buck - it's BB shot: 2 3/4 1250fps 1/14 oz. It's stupidly pricey at DSG, but I work there and had ScorePoints, so I figured WTF? I have no full-sized silhouettes, but do have some IDPA-style targets which replicate center-mass well. Will try some groupings from 10-feet and out and post pics...
  17. Cody - thanks for the test. I got a look at the MR1 a few months ago and I was impressed. Though I did not get to fire it, the feel was just "right". As to the look, I was a person who absolutely, positively despised the FS2000. Looked like a crappy space-gun wannabe. Then one day at a shoot we have on a New England forum I belong to, a member handed me his FS2000 as a thank you for letting him shoot my SOCOM-16/Troy MCS. Not wanting to appear ungracious, I took the ghastly rifle to the line and fell in love. You can't judge a book by its cover... The three questions I have, which I didn't see covered: Do mags drop free? I it the safety/mag release ambidextrous? I'm a righty, but my left handed buddy was enquiring. Lastly, does the barrel seem to have the diameter where it could be threaded to accept a common flash hider? TIA

    WOW!!!

I did a search on sling mounts, but only came up with a clamp-on style, picatinny. It seems like a good idea - especially if I want to attach a light, (which I may). It just seems too busy for me. What I'm looking for, is something to attach directly to the sling swivel slot on the SNT tube. I thought about a standard QR, but am looking for more of a loop that a Troy or Vickers sling hook could attach to. Does anyone have info on a QR loop, rather than the rectangular standard QR? TIA....

    WOW!!!

Cody 6.0: I sent you a PM regarding the extension, but don't have enough posts yet - will get there in a minute. If it's a Benelli, I'll take it. I have read through some of your threads here and can feel your pain. Some of the worst deals I have ever made were ones where I was actually doing someone a favor and taking a loss.. In any case, I see you have an M2 and will likely be posting Q's on that after some research. I had an old 90's era Super90 Tactical and loved it. As much as I'd like an M4, the M2 seems close. I had a chance on a squeaky-clean Super90, but missed it by a millisecond....For now, the SNT is a nice ride and I'll bide my time for either another Super90 or an M2... If I don't get enough posts to PM today, I'll shoot you an E-mail, but I'll state publicly, that I'll take the OEM extension...Would love the M&P, but I have enough AR builds going and may give an MR1 a whirl when my next ProForm comes along...

    WOW!!!

Thanks so much Cody - PM sent. As much as the aftermarket tubes look great, I'd like to stick with Benelli OEM. I read your post about going back to 4+1 and the subsequent math challenge you had to put out there - +1 for patience... I'd like to give a higher capacity a whirl - though I'm realistic about the nuances of a shotgun in a fight and the extra rounds may be superfluous. Any issues with the OEM tube I should be looking for? Thanks again. Thanks as well for the tip on flight control - if they hit anything like those school-buss Brenneke's, they will be a welcome addition....I was amazed - thoroughly - at how accurate those Brennekes were... Hookster - thanks for the welcome and I'm wondering if this is the same stuff. It's definitely not 00-Buck and has the following listing on the package: Loaded with Remington's Heavy Density Tungsten-Bronze-Iron pellets. Heavy duty pellets are even heavier than standard lead pellets and retain higher energy for greater stopping power Short-range patterns in smoothbore barrels are very tight for maximum effectiveness Remington HD - The Ultimate Home Defense Shotshell They are 2 3/4 1250fps 1 1/4oz BB shot...If I can get there, will try some short range tests this afternoon and post some pics...Of course, with the over-the-top marketing, these shells are not a cheap ride. We're talking about $29.99 for 10 rounds. On a fiscal level, it certainly makes a good argument for the tried and true 00-buck, but if this fodder has some defense value, then it may be worth the wallet crunch...

    WOW!!!

It seems like only yesterday I was contemplating and then planning for the purchase of a new Benelli Super Nova Tactical. Turns out it was February!!! Well, I've never been known to be one who's on time for a party, so I took delivery of my brand new SNT this afternoon... I had been Benelli-less since selling my Super90 some years ago to go help fund 1/2 a year in Africa. Since then, I have had some quality trigger time - first with a friends Nova Tactical - then his replacement SNT. Nothing beats finally owning your own... One day, I'd love to replace my long lost Super90 Tactical, but for now - I'm in Benelli heaven! Why this shotgun is not in the homes of more people and in the patrol cars of more LEO's, I'll never know. Having owned both 870s and 500s, the obvious edge of the Super Nova Tactical, is clear from the first rack of the slide and the first trigger pull. Shooting from first 10 and then 25-yards with standard Remington 00-Buck at center-mass targets, the accuracy was more than impressive. Moving back from 25-50 yards and shooting Brenneke KO's I was nothing short of amazed by the accuracy of this gun and the muted recoil, compared to it's Mossberg and Remington cousins. This gun is really in a class by itself. After 50-rounds of Remington 00 and 15-rounds of the Brenneke, I was left with fading light and wanting to shoot more...This is just a superb gun - just superb. Of course, like all new owners I have a few basic questions and any help would be greatly appreciated. First, I was curious about a sling. I'm thinking of purchasing a Troy or Vickers 2-point and had even thought about using an M-14 sling. I was curious as to what others use. Next, I would like to add a +2 extension. I understand that this topic has been covered in depth and have considered Tac-Star, (which I have read has some weak points), Mesa Tactical, (which seems solid), Choate, (which I have not read about on here, but have seen discussed elsewhere) and finally Benelli OEM, (which I would prefer). I was wondering if anyone has a source for original Benelli OEM +2's. Last, ammo. I am a believer in 00-buck and my first experience with Brenneke KO slugs was just stellar, (If you have not tried them - you should). What caught my eye, was some Remington HD Ultimate Home Defense rounds. They are plated BB shot and heavily marketed where I work part time, (DSG) as an HD round. I have a box, but have not fired, or researched their effectiveness. They seem to rely on the plated BB's and tight mass to effect the desired result, but have not really heard whether these are deemed to be an effective HD round. I plan on taking some to the range for testing, but was wondering if anyone else had either tried, or read anything about this fodder. Thanks so much to all who contribute to this site. Much of what I read here - coupled with my own positive Benelli experiences, led me back to this pistol gripped SNT. Thanks also to Mike from Vincent A. Pestilli Associates, (my Benelli Rep). A recent visit while I was working behind the counter, sparked me to get off my butt and place my order. I am grateful I did...
  22. It is not my cup of tea at all, but you know what? I think it's great - really nice work. If I was a Sporting Clays guy, I'd likely love it, but from a purely artistic standpoint - well done!
  23. Well gang - I laid down my hard earned and ordered my Benelli SuperNova Tactical - should be here in a week or two!! I ordered the SNT with the pistol grip stock - as interesting as the ComforTech sounds, my instinct, training and some excellent suggestions tell me pistol grip. I have read the threads here - all I can find about the SNT, but wanted some further suggestions from tactical-minded members about accessories to purchase prior to arrival. - I would like the ability to access extra ammo and have been thinking about my options. I really don't need a picatinny rail on deck, so are there other options for a rail-less side mount shell carrier? I was also curious as to experiences with the stock, (sling mount) shell carrier - that looks interesting to me. - Is there a preferred tube extension among members? Fit, finish function about the same among the offerings? - Sling suggestions? I was thinking about a Troy 2-point... - I have a small supply of USGI 12ga 00 buck and also some stock Winchester 2 3/4 00 buck and some Federal Vital Shok plated 00 buck. For slugs I have Breneke Black Magic, (smoothbore sabots). Anything I'm missing? - Light? Mount? Here's where I get to a point where I don't want to spend the farm, but don't want to be too cheap as well...I have been thinking about a TLR-1, but am not sure how to mount it...I really don't want to do the flashlight/ring combo, unless someone has some experiences that will give me insight...Thoughts? Thanks again for all the great information.....
  24. Can someone find "jordan" and punch him in the face?
  25. Dude - can I use this on my SuperNova Tactical? I have JB Weld and some Gorilla Tape...I'll pay you double! Come back - I feel the need to be patronized...
