  1. Thanks for the replys. I live in california and thought I knew our silly laws better. I figured it didnt hold 10 rounds so it wouldnt fall in the evil black rifle section. Guess I am wrong.

Hey Rocket, Yeah, We can do the folder with the pistol grip here on pumps but unfortunately it's a no-no on semi-autos. (makes them too darn scarey!!!)

  2. Ya thats a score congratz. you never did respond to my question in the other thread. What is wrong with that stock in california?

It would be considered an assault weapon (which is illegal) with a collasable / folding stock which also has a pistol grip. Here's how they put it:

    Assault Weapon Definition, Shotgun Section

12276.1. (a) Notwithstanding Section 12276, "assault weapon" shall also mean any of the following:

    Rifle/Pistol sections deleted.

    (6) A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:

    • (A) A folding or telescoping stock.
    • (B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.

    (7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.

    (8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

  3. I just ordered a full length titanium mag tube and spring from Kip at Carriercomp. Judging from the number of posts on this I would expect that there are many on this board that have installed this mag tube from Kip. I just wondered how easy the installation was. Is it hard getting the old tube off? (I have a new M4). Is a heat gun required? Does the new tube come with complete installation instructions? Are any special tools needed?

Hi Frolic, Yes you'll need a heat gun. Mine took about 15 minutes of heat to release all the way but I was bringing the heat up slowly. Here's a copy of the instructions in this thread:

  4. Sounds good. Will it be larger than the stock handle? I'll definitely be on the lookout for it.

I believe someone who spoke with Kip reported that it would be similar to the Design Concepts handle (which is larger than stock)

  5. I like that one too! One of these rail systems is definitely in my M4's future. Will start researching these after I get the mag tube squared away.

Here's a review I did on the KZ with some pics starting on page 3

  6. Is Kip planning on releasing a Ti charging handle to go with his full length tubes? What is the latest status?

Yes, Kip has a titanium charging handle in the works. Not sure of his time frame but it'll be worth the wait.

  7. Hey Ohio, Congrats on your purchase, an AR probably has a place in a small collection. These days there are so many things made for them you can configure them any way you please. I got my first AR when I was 15, they went for $279 back then (1976).......yeah...I know.. I'm old! Did I mention I rode my dinosaur to get to the gunshop.

  8. Thanks for the reply GutWrench. I hope my MRP's accuracy turns out as good as yours. I guess I'll just start with the 55gr and work my way heavier and see what it likes best. I've got lots of 62gr Lake City M885 on hand so I'm hoping it likes that o.k. The 75gr stuff is pretty expensive.

LMT makes good stuff. IIRC though, Duggan twisted one of those bolts in half with the factory tq wrench, lol.

Duggan is strong!!! Where's he been anyway?

Yeah, I read an earlier post by StrangerDanger that the supplied torque wrench left something to be desired and it was very easy to miss the click. If I need to mess with the bolts I'll probably take it to my work and use a nice calibrated one.

  9. Your going to love the MRP. I have the non-piston setup for work and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Mine is extremely accurate with Winchester Q3131A1 ammo and always goes bang.

Hey GutWrench, Have you had a chance to compare how it does with Q3131AQ vs a heavier load?

    Thanks,

  10. Hey Mark,

I like your M6A2. LWRC is good stuff. Being a fellow Kalifornian, I'd love to have a Lewis lower to go with my new MRP but I can't bring myself to purchase anything with a bullet button or prince 50 setup. So, I'll be using it on one of my Bushmaster lowers which were registered as assalt weapons before the cutoff in 2000 so they have real working mag releases. I would like to see about a Lewis SOPMOD stock to go with it though. I saw some of the MagPul ACS stocks today. They are very SOPMODish but it would be nice to get the Lewis.

  11. Hey All,

I just got back from the gun show at the Cow Palace in South San Francisco. I wasn't planning on spending much but the LMT MRP piston upper said if I didn't take it home there was going to be big trouble. Not being one to argue with upper receivers I did what it said. This might have been a mistake though, cause now it thinks it can order me around. It keeps telling me now that I need to buy it a set of Troy Tritium folding battle sights. Here's what it looks like:

Hey, StrangerDanger! How does your MRP feel about 62 grain stuff. O.K.? All my previous AR uppers have been 1/9. I know the 1/7 likes the heavier stuff.

Do I need to be ordering some 69-75 gr?

Are you still happy with your Troys on there?

  12. His rail won't work with the Sidearmor, but will work with the B&T, Surefire m80, and I think maybe the KZ http://www.botachtactical.com/kzm4.html , if the top rail can be shortened so it doesn't go all the way back on the receiver(not sure though)?

You would be able to use Kips replacement rail with the KZ forend since you don't have to have the separate KZ top rail in place. The KZ forend section is secure without it.

  13. No whining here Unobtanium, But, since I can't legally put a collapsable stock on here in CA. I look forward to having the option to try a quality stock with a little shorter LOP and the cheek riser might offer a better cheek weld for using optics. Like you recently noted in your post here:

    http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20336

it's hard to get a good placement with the OEM PG stock.

    Take Care,

    Hookster :)

  14. Yeah, I noticed there isn't a visible mechanism for locking the riser to desired height. I think it must have a tab that goes into the slot on the top of the stock (visible in post #34 of the Mesa thread) then maybe the top buttplate screw/bolt secures it at the height you want. I'm looking forward to trying one of these out!
