  1. I'm looking at the 5.11 soft case and the Vodoo Mollee soft case.

The primary use will be for transporting to the range.

I'm looking for reviews of these two cases or another you find better.

    Thanks,

    Bob

I bought my scoped AR tactical soft case from the Tactical Store. I am very pleased with it and it has velcro pouches for 5 mags.

    http://www.tactical-store.com/5-11-tactical-gun-cases-f.html

They do have 5.11 gun cases in 36inch(MP4) and a 5.11 42" Gun Case (Shotgun) 58622 shotgun case for $87.99 w/free shipping.

  2. Thanks for the replies. Re my purchase decision, I work at the company where I am ordering and qualify for a "pro" deal at about 50% of retail, hard to argue with. Re the bore size, I had noticed while researching choke tubes for my Beretta Silver Pigeon S that there is a good deal of variability in bore sized from one gun, and one manufacturer to another. Just another case where there is more than one right answer, I guess. Thanks, Hattles, for the measurement, I had not seen such numbers. Good shooting to all.

hurricane, sounds like a good place to work and a great deal. Good luck and let us know what you choose.

  3. What's the usual state of a brand new M4 when purchased from most online dealers?

    Assembled or not?

Is one way "better" than the other?

New inbox Benelli M4's comes disassembled - in a box per all Benelli's. Two basic assemblies, buttstock/receiver/mag tube + barrel + accessories.

Generally speaking, almost all shotguns come this way.

  4. plan to order a new SBE II after so many great comments on it. the gunsmith is a friend and insists he won't order until I can tell him why the Benelli has a different bore size compared to other 12 ga shotguns. Unable to find such info on the website and have found no posts on these forums. He's a known leg puller but I figured one of you might be able to set me straight and shut him up so I can order my shotgun! Thanks

From what I can ascertain from the internet, Benelli 12 gauge bore size is 0.725" while the normal 12 bore size is 0.729"

As for the why, beats me.

I think you should demand a cost + 5% price on your SBEII from your gunsmith.

  5. I'm real pleased with the fit and feel as well as the different "felt recoil" of my Vinci. The Vinci is a very solid feeling shotgun. Doesn't have the usual Benelli action sound when cycling rounds through it and no looseness at all. Don't misunderstand, I love my HK SBE and will never get rid of it, they are just different shotguns and I shoot them both regularly and equally well:).

  6. That's exactly what I was looking for. Maybe after I feed 100,000 rounds of heavy loads I might have to buy another gun..... but I doubt it. Thanks!

I've been shooting an HK/Benelli SBE since 1989, including a lot of 3-1/2" loads in the early years of steel shot shell developement with 0 problems. I did have to have the recoil spring replaced after 18 years. Compared to most of the gas shotguns, the Benelli SBE is light. I also had a 20ga x 24" Montefeltro which weighed 5.5 lb. that I used for skeet and upland. Loved the weight and the feel.

  7. I am still shooting the Montefeltro I purchased years ago when Benelli introduced this gun. It remains my preferred all-around hunting gun.

I’m going to purchase another Benelli for upland game, and am trying to decide between the Ultra Light and the Vinci.

    --Spike

Decisions, decisions. Whatever you choose won't be a bad decision...for upland...although the Ultra Light would be, uh, lighter.:D

  8. Hello, I am a new forum member. Today I purchased a new Montefeltro 12 ga. I shot a friend's Legacy and loved it. The price of the Legacy was somewhat higher than the Montefeltro and since engraving has little interest for me I went with the wood stocked 12 ga. with the blued receiver. I assume that both guns are pretty much the same except for polish and adornments. When I looked at the online specifications the Legacy weighs in at 7.4 pounds and my gun weighs 7.1 pounds. If someone out there can explain the design difference to account for the different weight I would appreciate the info. I'm all for carrying less weight but the questions begs to be asked. Thanks

The primary weight difference is the result of the design.

You'll note that the Legacy has the same design feature of the SBE, a full length steel barrel which incorporates the top of the reciever, the bottom portion is alloy where as the Montefeltro has a full alloy reciever, which accounts for the lighter weight.

  9. That's great and all but I need part names and areas of wear. Exterior finish does not help with what to look for. Start with what parts are know to wear out??? springs or flakes of crome rusting off (examples).

Sorry, Been shooting an SBE for over 20 years without anything more than replacing the recoil spring after 18 years. I shot everything from skeet, sporting clays, 5 stand, trap, quail, pheasant , ducks and geese. The gun never failed me in the field. I sent it to Benelli and they went through the gun and replaced it for free even though it was out of warranty.

  10. New here..........Looking to buy a used sbe 2. What do I look for on the gun rack. I mean, what parts should be worn or not worn. What are the signs of a heavy used sbe 2. Also, can I check by serial number the date of manufacture?

Buying a used gun is similar to buying a used car. You kick the tires, look under the hood, check the paint, etc. to see if the claimed mileage matches the odometer. With a car, you can usually test drive it, but gun shops usually don't allow test drives...look for one with a pretty clean, unmarred exterior. With the simplicity of SBEII, like the SBE, ask if you can break it down and check the wear areas on the bolt and the runners. Dry fire it(ask first)and dry cycle it and see if there are any hang-ups. Ask if there is any kind of warranty or a return period. Some shops will offer a 3 day return period on used guns unless it is sold "as is" if you're not satisfied.

Check Gunbroker.com, you can find some pretty good deals if you have time to look for a good used gun.

Good luck in your quest for a used SBEII.

  11. called benelli today and was told that is how the vinci safety is susposed to function. not a problem according to them. now to decide whats more important, storing the gun with the safety on and tension on the spring or safety off with tension relieved. hhhmmmmmmmm.

Never had a firing pin or spring failure in 46 years of shooting shotguns.:D

  13. My Vinci safety works just like all of my semi-auto shotguns...loaded, dry fired, bolt opened or closed.

Well I'm not as sharp as I thought I was. After double checking my Vinci I found I had NOT dry fired it when I checked it out...DUH!

lo and behold the safty does not work(on)after I dry fired it.

It seems that is how it is designed.

    My apologies to all.

  14. thats my concern. with it on safe i cannot puul the trigger, no problem there. i put it to fire, dry fire to relieve spring pressure, then i cannot put it back to safe without re-cocking it. my question is this a properly working safety or do i have an issue that needs attention.

My Vinci safety works just like all of my semi-auto shotguns...loaded, dry fired, bolt opened or closed.

  15. To alleviate any concerns, invest in some snap caps.($5-$8) As an added measure, invest in anti-corrosion/rust snap caps. Protect the gun from moisture and rust after cleaning and storing.

Both Remington Moistureguard and The Inhibitor make corrosion protective products and snap caps.

  16. brianc142, good point.

I suppose it will all depend on whether Benelli decides to phase out the "conventional" design of the M2 and the SBEII. It'll be interesting to watch and see if the Vinci's "modular" design can be matched or exceeded by their competitors or that the shooting public can fully embrace the Vinci lineup.

  17. Like the title asks! :D

I'm down with being a guinea pig, I'm buying one the day they hit the shelves.

There are five Super Vinci's currently offerd on Gunbroker.com, starting bids ranging from $1450 - $1599 no reserve:). My local Benelli dealer isn't sure when he'll get them.

  18. Go handle both and get the one you like best

    Love my SBE II

I agree, handle both. I love all my Benelli's and shoot them equally well, but I'll also admit how impressed I was with the Vinci's fit & feel when I first handled it and then again I felt the same way with my HK SBE.

The horrors of choosing a new shotgun is the kind of problem I don't mind being faced with, ever.

  19. My Monte 20ga will be the last gun they pry from my cold dead fingers. I love that gun. It is great for pheasants in SD.

I am looking for a used youth model for my son right now.

They are tough to find and not cheap when you do. I'd suggest looking at Gunbroker.com or Gunsinternational.com.

Most used 20ga Monte's are in the $800-$999 range unles they've been abused.
