    Tyson,

If you want dead bird pics, go to Community and select albums. I've posted some pictures of birds taken with various Franchi shotguns.

    Good Luck This Season.

    DumbDuck

Its not that I want pics of dead birds I just wanted to create a place for members to show off the various species we hunt throughout the different regions of this beautiful country and share their stories.

  2. Just playing, but did you ever see that German gun from World War II that was designed to shoot around corners and into tanks?

Sorry to hear about your Nova :(

  3. Thought I would start a Thread for everyone to post their hunting Pics! Haven't got out yet except for at the Hunting Club, running our dog on Quail, will be posting Pics as soon as I get out in the field.

Hope everyone is having a BLAST! Can't wait to see your pics and hear your stories!

    Happy Hunting! :)

  4. flhawghuntr - Yes I have bought one. It is on order right now and should be here in the next week or so. A Benelli Rep was visiting a local gun shop and had a sample model on him that I was able to check out. It is a great deal and I wouldnt have gotten one if it wasnt worth the money.

You may have to change your name from Wingshooter17 to Headshooter17 if the gun is as good as you claim :)

  5. An IC is fine for all of your Foster slugs but you may want to pick up a rifled choke (or slug barrel if you want the real deal) for the use of Sabot slugs. There are only a few companies out there that make Sabot slugs that are designed specifically for use in rifled barrels only.

I think you will find Brenneke to be a great company out of your SuperNova, that is what I have been using a lot of recently, but each gun handles ammo differently even if they are the same model. Try a few of the popular brands mentioned throughout this forum that cover this topic to get an idea for what is working for other Benelli shotgun hunters, and see which performs best out of your gun.

Best of luck and Happy Hunting! :D

  6. wonderful isn't it???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

It sure is! What do you bring to the range? And just out of curiosity, what started your gun fetish? You have a beautiful collection. :)

  7. Do either of you guys have the product number for this item? I had no idea that a barrel from Ithaca could fit the Nova! That is crazy, but very interesting. I would love to investigate this, if anyone has the specifics like the gun model of the Ithaca and the year(s) it was made it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

  8. SuperNova all the way! Rock Solid, love it in every application you can imagine and than some! Clays, upland, turkey, deer, etc. Lots of fun and it's only a little more. I have dragged mine through **** and back, hitting it off trees and all kinds of crap, the gun took it with a smile and asked for more. Have fun out there and don't regret not getting the Super version of the Nova :D

  9. I know this is kind of off base, but does anyone do any crow shooting?I have an electric caller and a manual call,i have hunted them for about four years, did pretty good early, but now they have gotten really smart can only one to come in one sitting. There are still tons of them around, they will come and sit in a tree about 300 yards out.I have a crow fighting, crow and hawk fighting, and crow and owl tape

Can you throw out some old meat or some bait? If so throw it into a field about 20-30 yards off the tree line (You will be sitting on the tree line), use a general crow call, and when they come in for dinner...well you know the rest.

Or you could just change your hunting location. You taught the flock your tricks.

    Good luck

  10. I'm looking for an improvement in pattern even-ness with the high speed steel loads. I've pattened my new Supernova, and discoved that the low speed ammo is really nice but the high speed shells get patchy. I'm hoping to find improvements in the pattens with #3 at +1500fps for ducks and larger shot sizes at +1500 fps for geese.

I would like hear from anyone with a good recommendation.

    Thanks,

    Scott

Sorry that I didn't respond to this post until now, but I highly recommend the Carlson's Extended Super Steel Chokes- "Great Patterns with Steel Shot- Guaranteed".

You have 3 choices for your Benelli:

    Close Range: #07113 constriction: .715

    Mid Range: #07115 constriction: .705

    Extended Range: #07117 constriction: .695

All steel shots can be used and a Lifetime Guarantee. These are their "best patterning long range choke tube."

    Good Luck and Happy Hunting!:)

  11. ohh well i stopped looking on the chart after the loads got lighter than 2 oz. I wont shoot anything less than 2 oz. Makes me feel more comfortable and I like the recoil it gives off.

i also understand that the density plays a big part, but if both sizes were shot with the same density, (25-30 pellets) inside the target, then id feel better with the larger shot size. That is why im looking for the best pattern. Maybe I will try the 6's after i test shot patterns of the 4's.

Post up your patterns when you get a chance. Seasons just around the corner!!

  12. ballistics? im still alittle confused about this. I would LOVe for you to post some patterns with some brenneke black magics! i was wanting some of these but i figured it was a bit of overkill for deer hunting. If you will post some patterns i would really appreciate it. I was just wanting to try some federal truball since trapshooter seems to insist on them, i just dont want my accuracy to be thrown off by the size of the shell? or ballistics.. im confused to how that affects the shot?

The Black Magics leave quite a unique hole in the targets, I will get some KOs soon and do a comparison for you. It may be after the weekend because I already have some yotes and a bear that I have been after for about a month. After that I will post the shot groups. The black magics are way overkill for deer if your a big venison fan like myself, but if your into dropping them in their spot there is no doubt they will do this and they are one of the most accurate slugs that I have ever shot. And not to mention I have an identical setup as you with the same Carlson's rifled choke and SuperNova. I am using a TruGlo red dot sight on a B-square saddle mount, I am not sure if you are using a scope or not but the red dots are so much fun and hold their zero even when I play hard in the woods. Talk soon

  13. So your saying that accuracy COULD be affected by by a long chamber.

That's odd considering the shell is seated forward in the chamber. I have never experienced a difference in accuracy going from a 2-3/4" to a 3" slug, with the exception of ballistic characteristics from different loads and products. Give it a pattern test and get back to us, if you want I can post some pattern tests at 40-50 yards with two different shells. For example a two shot pattern with Brenneke Black Magic 3" and the Brenneke KO 2-3/4". You will only see a slight change in the accuracy but that will be due to the ballistics and not the size of the shell in relation to the chamber IMO.

  14. Typical for semi auto weapons. You have nothing to worry about, unless the wear is uneven and pitted. I too am surprised to hear that about your friend's Remingtons.

  15. You must hit the button to cycle rounds, or even load one from the magazine into the chamber. Unless the button you are referring to is the one on the pump...you are being really confusing. You MUST push in the flat metal button near the trigger guard in order to pump the shotgun, load in the first round or to cycle rounds. Once you fire your Nova you will be able to extract the spent shell and load the next shell. Please explain the problem better by rewording. I can further help you if you have a detailed reply.

  16. What range are you planning on using your SuperNova as a slug gun for IShootKittens?

Right now I am getting consistent 1/2" groups at 50 yards with my SuperNova, Carlson's Rifled Choke, and Brenneke Black Magics. For me that slug is way over kill for deer but I have this setup for Black Bear right now. But you could use their Gold Magnums and get the same exact results because of the identical ballistics. This would allow you to shoot @ 100 yards confidently so long as you are a good shot. Still overkill but just an option to think about.

  17. I use a rattling bag, the can, and a grunt call.

Nice Tucker, I'm planning on getting really aggressive this year with my calling techniques to try and pull in a really seclusive buck who we haven't got a shot at in the last 3 years. This monster's prints tend to disappear down into the thick nasty brush and into our swamps come hunting season. I'm hoping some real dominant snorts and grunts with some rattling will pull him out.

As far as the doe calls go I think I'm going to try the Quaker Boy Squeezin' Bleat because I can use it with my foot while I do grunts as if to create multiple deer communicating at the same time. It was recommended from a great hunter recently and it looks like the call for me :).

Still making adjustments to my gear list, he11 I have another month to get it all finalized (Due to the fact that I haven't taken the Archery Hunter's Safety Course which Maine requires to get your extended archery license)

Best of Luck and Thanks for the responses!

  18. Just a little heads up that Wild Life Research Center's Super Charged Scent Killer will leave residue on all items that are not absorbent materials such as clothing. So if you plan on spraying it all over your trail cameras and such be sure to wipe it evenly or you will get a spotty mess and I'm sure it would make your trail pics come out ****** if it were on the lens.

I will be returning to Dead Down Wind because I found it to be the best at eliminating all kinds of scents, not just human odor.

  19. I am picking up a new set of calls this year after years of using hand me downs. If you hunters would be so nice let everyone know what you will be using along with the pros and cons.

    My lineup this year:

    The Kruncher (Hunter's Specialties)

    Snort Wheezer (Knight & Hale)

Easy Estrus Bleat Model 711 "The Can" (Primos)

I have not tried the first two but have seen them in some hunting shows and they seemed to really work well (keeping in mind they are Pros and you can do a lot of Magic in the Editing Room). And I'm sure you have all picked up a bleat can at some point. But after doing a lot of research this is what I want to try this year. Let me know if you all have tried any of these because I would love to hear the good, bad, and ugly before I purchase the new gear.

Thanks for your responses in advance.
