What cleefurd said. Free floating a barrel has zero to do with durability or the longevity of the barrel. It does as touched on above have generally everything to do with accuracy. JM2C

I think you can pick up 1/2 inch with the thicker gel pad replacement part from Benelli. Check link. Other than that I'm not sure if there are any ways it can be done. http://www.benelliusa.com/parts_and_accessories/recoil_pads.php
