1. Another generic question here for the experts: If you obtain a gun through a FFL transfer, what is the date of your actual ownership?

I bought a Bushmaster M4 A3 last night, paid for it last night and it will be shipped out to my FFL dealer today with a pick-up probably on Saturday.

Am I considered the owner last night or Saturday?

Reason I'm asking is MD is about to join NY and the other crappy states probably on Thursday. I would love to have ownership documented before the Bill is passed.

  2. There should be little to no heat transfer from the barrel to the mag tube (which is really the only place that heat could come from)...many manufacturers use wooden or plastic plugs...Benelli's are usually red plastic...no need for aluminum.

Piece of PVC pipe, 3 1/16" long did the trick.

  3. Does it still add two extra rounds?

If the mag spring retainer is falling out of the tube, take some snap ring plier clamps and stretch it

so it is a snug fit.

It's not a tube extension (aka adding 2 more rounds), it just replaces the "false" OEM extension but adds two picatinny rails. I was at the range and put 85 rounds through the gun (first time since the Briley was installed). I used ring pliers to put it back, it's pretty darn tight. I just think the force of the firing process can work it out, this is why Benelli put a "stop" in place on the OEM tube so it has nowhere to go.

  4. I have the following Briley mag tube rail mount system on my stock M4.

I was a the range yesterday and when tried to take things apart today to clean the M4 I discovered a flaw in their design and had a problem. When I unscrewed the Briley to take the barrel out the spring retainer cap came out (as well as the spring).

The oem dummy tube extension has a stop in it to hold the Spring Retainer Cap from working it's way out (see below)

The Briley unit does not have any kind of stop, it's unobstructed all the way to the end (see below)

I was able to put retainer cap back in. For the experts, does it look right? Am I missing anything? (see below)

Here is the Briley unit showing where the mag ends and how the rest is an unobstructed void.

I like the Briley unit but not if the Retainer Cap works its way out under use. Any ideas from the creative thinkers here to remedy? I was thinking about a piece of aluminum tubing cut to the right length to put inside the Briley acting as a stop. Hard part will be getting the exact length so it can be tight enough but not have the aluminum tube rattle inside.

  5. I too have been firing just slugs as that's all the range will allow. I'm sticking with what ever I can get, mostly Winchester hollow points, 2 3/4" no 3" at Walmart. Got a case Fiocchi slugs I haven't fired yet (probably tomorrow).

  6. Thanks for all the good idea's and suggestions. I think I just need to be patient and wait for everything on back-order to arrive and see where I stand.

Looks like MD will be passing the "you have an evil pistol grip so register your firearm now so we can take it later" bill so I have bigger things to think about ..... stupid Liberals.

  7. Good point .... not sure, I don't have the EOTech yet (being told end of March). I'll have to sort it out when I get the EOLAD switch and my surefire XT07.

The cable is 10" so I was thinking of using the LaRue clips going from the last space on the top rail, along the barrel to the BLAM4. Oh heck, I'm just anxious for my stuff to come in and get it all set up.

  8. My EOTech EOLAD has a tape switch that attaches via velcro. Instead of attaching it to my forearm I was wondering if they make a flat/smooth "surface" that can slide onto a picatinny rail then I can attach the velcro strip to that? I was thinking of using my BLAM4 for this.

  9. I just went to my local gun shop (to see if they have a MR1), same place I got my M4. I asked one of the guys about the Nambu and he was very familiar with it, (WW2 buff) and he basically was saying the same thing that I should hang onto it. He advised not to sell it to a Gun Shop or Pawn Shop but offered to take a look at it and advise it's general condition, etc. He also mentioned not to fire it as it would decrease the value likely (not sure about that). I have no intentions of firing it.

  10. Yep... and I sent a 5000 character reply last night... apparently you didn't get it :( and I didn't realize that I needed to tick the "save a copy to my sent box" before I sent it

EDIT: Maybe a moderator can dig it out?

Thanks ... I did get your response, just didn't get any "alert" that I had PM when I logged in so I went looking for it.

  11. You will probably get mixed reviews on the MR1 but I want one too. It's a Benelli so they are not cheap but it has the rock solid Argo system. A gun is only as good as it's reliability, which the Benelli's are. There is speculation it's been a flop for Benelli sales wise and it's just a matter of time before it's discontinued.

Can't comment on the accessories etc., I'm sure they are out there just harder to find. I'm jealous.

  12. I have a Nambu type 14 circa 1943 that I got from my dad who brought it back from the war. He was supposed to have it made inoperable but never did. Is it legal for me to own this thing?

I'd like to bring it somewhere to see if it's shooting worthy and a value but not if I'm going to get into trouble. :p
