  1. No luck finding the false extension. Wife "vaguely" remembers tossing the entire box I had labeled "unused weapon parts" when I was last on, what she calls, "extended work duty" so I'm sure it is gone as it would have been put in there. Sorry. She seems to toss a lot of my stuff when I'm not around to defend it. Guess it's her coping mechanism or maybe she just likes throwing out my stuff

They will do that if you don't keep an eye on them!

  2. If you can't find the blank (5 round) extension, I make a pretty neat extension that allows for 6 rounds in the tube. We call this a "New Jersey" special as the guys in that state are only allowed 6 rounds. Search this forum for "New Jersey special" and the pix will come up. And although I've only been lurking , I'm still around and have a few 7 round FL tubes available. Questions at [email protected]

    Joe

Yeah but I'm looking for a New York Special!

    :)

    Can only be 5 rounds

  3. Price is way too high for an extrusion. Plus it looks very uncomfortable

Agreed, I am totally not into cheese graters for anything I have.

agreed. As mentioned, I'll be sticking with my current configuration (FFT replica forend halves with an AVA light mount...) I just like to see more people thinking of things for the M4. AVA, Carriercomp, DMW, FFT, Scalarworks all make great stuff, but I like the idea of more people bringing stuff to market.

Yeah, it is interesting for that very reason.

I like the looks of the M4 as is, and don't want to adorn it with anything un-necessary or HAEVY

  4. So, I've been thinking about this test.

It seems like you would want to load a light birdshot shell into the chamber and a heavy slug or buckshot shell into the magazine tube.

Fire the birdshot and see if the recoil generated by this light load has sufficient power to cycle the action and chamber the heavier slug.

If the heavy shell doesn't make it into the chamber, the magazine spring may not be pushing the round out of the magazine tube fast enough to be in place for the bolt to grab before it returns to battery.

Does this sound right or am I way off?

I think the why it is done the other way is that the 3" shell can cause the magazine to move because of recoil and if the spring is too light, then it does not control the shell in the mag, so that when it comes time to load the shell in the mag that the shell is out of position because the spring didn't keep it against the shell stop in position. Think of what the recoil would do if there was no spring in the mag. Because of inertia, the shell would slide forward in the mag tube as the recoil hit and take it out of position for feeding. The spring has to be strong enough to hold it against the shell stop despite recoil. A weak spring will let it move out of position.

Hopefully I worded this correctly to understand.

  5. Is that test for semi-autos? I don't see how that test would have any effect on a pump action.

Yeah It was for semi auto's.

When you asked this question, I looked up Benelli Nova Tactical and see that it is a Pump.

  6. Yes. It holds 7+1 of Hornady TAP FPD 00-Buck.

It's a Benelli Nova Tactical with 18.5" barrel. I added: Tac-Star Magazine Extension, Scattergun Technologies Extended Magazine Spring, RCI aluminum follower, Limbsaver recoil pad, ElZetta Tactical Shotgun Light Mount, Xenon weapon light, elastic 5-round buttstock shell carrier and a T.O.C. sling.

    Works for me.

Sounds like you're good to go!

You might want to do the test I mentioned above if you can.

The second shot may have been buckshot instead of birdshot, not sure.

  7. I installed the Scattergun Technologies extended magazine spring in my NT today. So far, it cycles shells perfectly. It's a fair bit longer than the stock spring and provides considerable tension. It was a little tricky getting the extension back on while fighting the spring.

Even though it was made for a Remington 870, it seems to be a good fit for the Benelli Nova Tactical.

I also changed to magazine follower to an RCI aluminum unit. That seems like a quality part, too.

You could load the proper amount of shells?

  8. Cool. Thanks!

There was a guy who mentioned on another thread that the way to test if your spring pressure was working was to load one 2 3/4" Bird shot and one 3" Slug. If you shot the slug and then it would load and allow you to shoot the Bird shot, then your spring tension was good.

I think I got that straight.

  9. We are only about 1/2 way done with the current hanging roll. Maybe I can start blowing my nose with the paper too, instead of a tissue or my wife's shirt, in order to speed up use.

I will look through my storage locker next time I'm that way and see if I still have mine. If so you can have it. I was just there and don't remember seeing it in the "cast off" parts bin but I wasn't specifically looking for it so may have just missed it.

Heh, listen, I wouldn't wanna rush this process at all. But if you need any help, I can send my English Cocker Spaniel over there. He has no problems working these kinda problems. Just leave a foot or so of the toilet paper hanging down and he'll handle the rest...

I'll send him right over soon as he finishes his Rum Punch.

    You gotta Vacuum Cleaner rite?
