The M4 is a pussycat. At least compared to a pump. I don't even have a bruise from yesterday. I am shooting Federal Hydra-Shok 1 oz slugs (1,600 FPS). They are part number LEF127RS. I have shot the TruBall slugs before too. I think those might be more accurate.
I tried an extended IC, flush IC, and flush cylinder chokes. I had the best groupings with the cylinder choke, but using that would definitely handicap me on the other parts of a 3-gun stage. I am searching for a good combination of slug and choke that will still allow me to knock over the steel knock-off plates with 7.5 shot at 10 yards. It has not been easy. Chokes tighter than IC definitely improve the plate knock down power, but as I understand it, they are not suitable for slugs.
My grouping pretty much covered a 12x16 piece of paper at 100 yards. I had hits at the top, hits at the bottom, hits at the left edge, and hits at the right edge. I have done better than that in the past. I would like to keep them in a 10" circle at that distance. Maybe that is asking too much.

OK, I run an optical sight on my M4. I typically use slugs to sight it in. Lately in my 3-gun competitions, they have been making us take shots at a steel plate (maybe 12x16) at 100 yards with slugs.
So I would like to open a discussion about which slugs work best for everyone (most accurate) and which chokes they like to use.
I shot about 30 slugs yesterday and I am still not happy with my grouping at 100 yards (if you can call it a group).
Any advice or experience shared would be appreciated.

Yes, I used the factory screws and washers. I just used 241, but I did degrease with rubbing alcohol and q-tips the best I could. Where did you find the factory spec on the torque? I looked in my manual but could not find it in there.
Thanks for the reply. I will be writing that torque spec down in my notes. I might also tighten those screws up to 18 in-lbs. I have a torque screwdriver set. I think it is called a Torque-Vario or something like that.

Instructions that came with the MI Aimpoint mount said to tighten the two screws that hold the mount to the receiver to 25 in-lbs. I was too squeamish to tighten them that much so I torqued them to 15 in-lbs with some blue Loctite. What are you guys torqueing the screws that go into the top of the receiver to?

DSG Arms in Texas had some Geissele hammers the last time I checked. Fft has disconnectors in stock, but the triggers and hammers are back ordered deep.
Dang. I am too slow. They are out of stock.

I just ordered the trigger and disconnector from the FFT website. Just need a hammer now.

The OEM rail has 5 bolts to secure it to the receiver. From the web site's pics, it appears to have only 2 bolts to secure it? Let us know how it holds up over time. Thanks!
I received the mount yesterday, but I only had time to look it over. It does only have two mounting screws that attach it to the M4 receiver. I plan to have it mounted by the weekend so I can take it out and sight it in over the weekend. I will let you know what I think.

Put me on that list as well.

I just got a tracking number for mine, so they are now shipping.
Just thought the forum would like to know.

Mike - Yes. I opened it up about as far as physically possible without getting too close to the pin channel for the shell stop. I took the finish down to 2000 grit. It was pretty much mirror finish by that point. The NP3+ covered it perfectly and made it appear factory.
It looks good. You did a good job on it.
I test fired the gun today. Performed perfectly except on some crappy low dram 7.5 shot. That crap doesn't work in any of my M4's reliably either. Went thru a 100 rounds of various slugs and buckshot. Did some slow motion video to see how the action was performing too.Mine needs 3 Dram or higher. I tried some 2-3/4 Dram (1-1/8 Oz at 1145 FPS) and I was using a single shot shotgun. This of course was during a competition.

SD, did you do the relief work around the shell carrier opening?

Are you living in the states? I am asking because I think this part is covered under ITAR.

Great info! I am running some of the same things you guys are, but there is a lot of good info to digest here. I was running an RMR but ditched it for the Aimpoint after having issues in the rain. The rain drops got down in where the emitter was and all I could see were red splashes of light all over the screen. It was fine once it dried out, but shooting in the rain was problematic.
I am definitely eyeing that MI mount and was considering ditching the SideArmor setup if I did. I am currently running two Carbon Arms Pinwheel setups on my belt, so I don't even use the sidesaddle.
I am definitely going to look into the trigger components mentioned. I already have the Carrier Comp oversized bolt handle (why do you say "mythical?"), and GG&G bolt release. I ordered a Taran Tactical oversized safety and extended carrier, but they are on backorder.
I really appreciate the feedback. It has given me some items to research and some good ideas for improving my setup.
Thanks again and feel free to add more.

I am curious about this too. I am looking for a shell catcher that snaps on and off without leaving anything permanently attached to the gun.

I have a SideArmor on mine. With that setup, the shell carrier can be removed.
I actually have an older style SideArmor setup for an M4 that I am not using. With the old style, the shell carrier is held on by two screws instead of it being quick release.

I think I want one. It is not yet on the MI website yet.
I currently run a 4 MOA T1 on a Larue Tactical quick release setup. There is no co-witnessing with my setup.

I have been using my Benelli M4 to compete in local 3-Gun matches. It leaves a little to be desired. I am curious if anyone else is running one and what mods they have done to make it more competitive.
I have an oversized bolt knob, oversize bolt release, and full-length titanium mag tube on mine. I am running a SideArmor rail and side-saddle with an 4 MOA Aimpoint Micro T1.
I have ordered an AccuGuide Extended Carrier, Oversized Safety, and Nordic 2-shot extension, but have not yet received these.
How about lightening the trigger some? It is a tad heavy for my taste.
Any input or advice you might provide would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

What brand of sabots have you been shooting through your M4? I have been researching this a little on the interwebs and found this article. The sabot round they tested from a smoothbore keyholed at 50 yards. Sabot slugs are typically intended to be shot through a rifled barrel. If you found one that holds a tight group from your M4, I would like to try some.
