porting an m4???

That would be like me installing a chin-spoiler on my WS6.

I'm of the opinion it would not work well on a gas gun, there would likely be an adverse effect on the operation of the sg. Why don't you contact Magna-Port and ask them.

 

There's also the choke issue, the porting would have to be below the screw in choke.

It wouldn't work well on a shotgun, period, because the very low operating pressure is not conducive to good results from porting.

Wait for Kip's muzzle brake. It should provide the same benefit and is reversible if it causes cycling problems.

My 121 M1 is ported (by Magna Port) and functions fine, however it's recoil operated.

 

And I recently had my Model 12 with 18.5" barrel ported by Magna Port and there's a noticeable difference.
