Hi Folks,

I have a recoil operated Benelli M2. I clean the bore by pushing through a felt plug and nylon brush after each shooting. After how many rounds should it be taken apart and detail cleaned, bolt, action, etc,? Anyone know or have an opinion about it? Thanks ! :)

Thanks, but I don't want to disassemble it more than necessary, though. That's why I ask after approximately how many rounds one can expect the fouling and powder residue to interfere with reliable operation?

Because it is an "Intertia Driven" action, very little residue get into the action itself (unlike a gas gun). I personally think you could shoot 2K rounds through it without a concern for residue buildup. With that said, the gun will need lubricated on a regular basis.

How often? YMMV

I cleaned my SBEII just before dove season ( sept 1st) i have to date put 600 rounds through my gun even hunting at 9 degrees the other morning and it still runs like a champ.

My experience has been similar.

I can't imagine how many rounds you'd need to put thru one before residue caused a problem, but since it only takes about 15 minutes to fully strip, clean and reassemble why worry. Plus my grandfather would come up out of the grave and get me it I didn't clean it very often [usually after every 100 rounds].

BoreSnake cuts barrel cleaning time to nearly zero, is my other thought.
