metroplex
Does anyone know if the oversized/ergonomic bolt release from the M2 3-Gun model will retrofit onto the M2 Field? If so, where can I purchase this replacement part? It looks just like the Nordic Components release, but it has been drilled and tapped at the factory. I'd like to just buy the 3-Gun release from somewhere and install that on my M2, vice having to modify my existing release.
Creeper
If modifying your existing bolt release is the big concern, and you still want a larger button "target"... consider a DMW Speedbar. It requires no drilling, filling, milling or even disassembly other than to slide your forend forward enough to insert it. If on the other hand you must have a large pad/button that affixes directly to your existing button, there are several makers that will modify your stock release for their button with a fairly quick turnaround... Briley for example. Cheers, C
metroplex
So no one is selling a pre-tapped release? It just seems to make more sense for me to keep my factory release and buy one that is ready to drop-in like a Nordic kit.
Creeper
Unless you can get one direct from Benelli (who may be getting them from Nordic), or on an exchange from one if the more well known 3-gun gunsmiths like those I've listed below... nope. Incorrectamundo. Both of these include all the parts, ready to install. Creeper
Well... there ya' go. Every time I think I know things, I find out I don't know every things. Gracias truckcop for the knowledge base upgrade. Tac2 I was not aware of, and GG&G... I just flat out forgot about. Cheers, C
metroplex
I found those in a search before, and a few users complained about the poor workmanship on the Tac2, and the GG&G seemed to rotate under force?
truckcop
I use both, mostly for three-gun but I've got them on my skeet/hunting guns as well. Never had the GGG rotate. It's made a little better in terms of attachment of the pad. They machine a groove in the back of the pad and corresponding "tongue" in the factory release mechanism. The pad on the Tac2 is slightly different than the GGG and there's only a direct drill and tap into the factory part and the attachment screw is probably smaller than the GGG. I use blue loctite on each and have never had a problem with either one. I would probably prefer a smaller pad (both are about the same size), something along the lines of the one from Taran Butler. I could always take and saw and file to them but have never really felt an overwhelming need to do so since they work just fine as they are. The GGG always seems to be "out of stock" from them and the Tac2, while the site said "in stock" when I ordered them, was not really and it took a while for me to get them. But again, I have nothing bad to say about either one.
Creeper
All good to know truckcop. I've never been a big fan of drilling and tapping the button myself... which is why I tend to recommend the DMW Speedbar for those that are "on the fence". I suppose my fears stem from several years ago and the one time I did drill and tap a button on an M1... the button separated from the lever. I had to silver solder it back on and although in the remaining years that I owned the gun it never came loose again, I was suspicious of it from that point forward. Some (many?) don't think much of the Speedbar, but as a left-hander using my thumb, I find it to be easy to locate and depress. If we all followed the same voice, it'd be a pretty dull and tedious world to live in. C
metroplex
I just placed an order for the GGG. I wanted to keep it looking slick like the Nordic Components and the Benelli M2 3-Gun edition, but it seems drilling/tapping the stock release is the only way to get the NC button to work. The GGG seems to have almost all positive reviews. I wear gloves while shooting so I am not worried about skinning my knuckles, although I am curious if the GGG will rub against the receiver causing it to mar the finish? truckcop
Mine don't. It is held out far enough from the receiver that there's no contact.
metroplex
I contacted Nordic and Benelli. Nordic says the M2 3-Gun indeed uses Nordic parts (the bolt release button). Benelli claims that Nordic ships them/the shop all of the parts ready to go, however Nordic said they don't do any modifications - they just ship them the parts - and that they don't tap the standard release catch nor do they sell one. It sounds to me like Benelli just has their custom shop drill and tap each catch for the Nordic button. It sounds like getting replacement parts would be a pain because they'd have to one-off each part as needed.
metroplex
I called GG&G and asked about the screw thread size to see if I could possibly use the GG&G catch for the Nordic Components button. They actually told me that the stock catch was too weak to drill/tap and that the GG&G catch uses a piece that is welded to the stock catch.
