Sukhoi_fan
I think I found what I've been looking for. http://www.bluesheepdog.com/uncle-mikes-breacher-vest-review/
Sukhoi_fan
Posted to wrong thread. Having extra ammo on your gun cannot be beat because in a shit blizzard you may not have time to grab anything but the gun - Quality shotgun cards - https://esstac.com/shotgun/ Buttstock ammo carrier (I'm not promoting this one, only using as an example) - https://www.ebay.com/itm/275013558357?hash=item400815e055:g:HZMAAOSwIJJhgzso Then there are the sling/bandolier combos or the shotshell holder that slips over your forearm (not a fan of either). In a shit blizzard keeping track of a pouch or bag not attached to your body or LBE isn't going to work out very well. Personally, beyond the rounds stowed on the gun itself I'm big on quality bandoliers, the best quality 12 ga. bandolier that I've found is Urban ERT - https://www.urbanertslings.com/50-round-tactical-combat-shotgun-bandoleer-for-the-12-gauge-shotgun/ Urban ERT shotshell holder belt - https://www.urbanertslings.com/30-round-12-gauge-2-shotgun-shell-belt/ Too bad Uncle Mike's quit making this vest - https://www.bluesheepdog.com/uncle-mikes-breacher-vest-review/ Edited November 10, 2021 by Sukhoi_fan
Sukhoi_fan
Found this option, however I can don two 50 round bandoliers in the time it takes to don this 24 round chest rig. https://gadsdendynamics.com/shotgun-chest-rig/
RPC
Thanks for the info, @Sukhoi_fan. For the reasons you listed I’ve been thinking about trying out an Esstac set-up on my M4. Of the various sizes available, I get that round count will be up to the individual purchaser but, is there a max size that fits in the logical location on the M4 (ex.- Don’t buy larger than 5-round because the 6&7-round cards are too long to reasonably fit on the receiver)?

That's a good question! I prefer a 5 round card, any larger and it seems to interfere with my grip. However, a 7 round card fits perfectly in a 30 round ar15 mag carrier. Carrying extra loaded cards is a good idea. You can pull off the empty card and slap on a loaded one in 2 seconds, empty, they lay flat too.
iamrt
I did the 7s and was sure to cut the velcro to not obstruct the trigger pin. Another thing to keep in mind is that the shotgun cards can fit in a chest rig meant for 556 mags as well. ala TFBtv's Combat Shotgun Setup video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sro9uUOL0vM&t=84s

Sukhoi_fan
Running out of ammo in the middle of a shit storm is a real bitch. Don't ask me how I know. I'll let this guy tell you: Quote Despite the fusillade of lead sent his way, Gramins’ only damage besides glass cuts was a wound to his left shin. His dominant emotion throughout his brush with death, he recalls, was “feeling very alone, with no one to help me but myself.” That's exactly what it's like however my help was via a neighbor calling 911 not via a radio call. This guy had two rounds left at the end of the incident, I had one round left, it was very close. https://www.police1.com/officer-shootings/articles/why-one-cop-carries-145-rounds-of-ammo-on-the-job-clGBbLYpnqqHxwMq/#:~:text=Before the call that changed Timothy Gramins’ life,Now%2C he carries 145%2C “every day%2C without fail.” Edited November 11, 2021 by Sukhoi_fan 1
iamrt
I watched the video of the encounter you referenced. It was insane. The perp had no less than 4 or 5 fatal shots but was still going full speed.

CobraBG
No traces of drugs or alcohol in his system, hit many times center mass and he still wasn't slowing down. That's incredible! No such thing as too much ammo.
Sukhoi_fan
There's this thing known as "a dead man's five seconds" in which a varmint can still kill ya despite being mortally wounded. It's often more than five seconds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tePGLcYjcVk Edited November 11, 2021 by Sukhoi_fan
