New M4 - Thanks for the info

I just wanted to give a shout out and a huge thank you to all of you who spend time to write and post instructions, reviews and answer basic questions.  The first round of mods went extremely smooth! 

My new M4 Landed a few weeks ago and I spent an hour or so last weekend with the first group of upgrades.

Need to get her out on the range next!

 

Quick question - I noticed the front of the barrel around the site is slightly brown.  Is this normal?  I haven't tried cleaning it.

Theres no brown around the front sight for my benelli m4.

It's likely just where they soldered the front sight base onto the barrel before the phosphate finish.

To facilitate soldering acid flux is used. If the flux is not completely washed away and the residual neutralized rust will result.... like brown rust.

Is it a bad thing if its appearing brown? Just curious.

If it does not come off with a rag and breakfree or other oil/cleaner, I'd suggest calling Benelli tech support.

It sure looks like rust from acid soldering flux not having been properly removed and neutralized.... may even indicate an incomplete soldered joint.

Yes, you should, at least, get a new barrel, that looks terrible.

On my bolt carrier, the tail piece has that exact brown looking stuff on the top of it on the very back in the center.  I didnt think anything of it until you pointed that out on your barrel.
