Blain Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Does anyone have any experience with Dave's Metal Works Magazine Springs? He included one with every extension he sold. I have one I bought 2nd hand that included the spring, and it is the FIRST time I've seen a flat wire spring for the benelli M4! It reminds me a little of Tubb's Flatwire AR buffer spring. IT measures around 28" long and seems to have decent tension to it. I emailed Dave about it and he described it as follows, Quote The tube and spring are mfg. locally in Southern California. The spring has a free length of 28” and is made from rocket wire with a rectangular cross section. Not sure what "Rocket Wire is", but it sure sounds high tech. When fully compressed, there is actually a hair more space in the tube to load rounds than the sorter factory spring when compressed. Was trying to look up first hand user accounts of it and someone posted that he bought the extension and used the spring, and that the spring was "junk" and started giving him cycling problems after a time. Didn't check the date of the post, so not sure how old it is. If anything, I would think that a spring like this would function better! Does anyone have any experience with this spring or know anything about rocket wire? I think it's cool that there is actually a flatwire mag spring available for the benelli m4! 1 1 Quote
Sukhoi_fan Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 I love my Tubb's flatwire AR buffer springs. I can see the advantage using a flatwire spring in a M4 magazine. Quote

Blain Posted October 16, 2024 Author Posted October 16, 2024 Further elaboration from Dave. Quote My understanding is that rocket wire is spring wire that is cold rolled into a desired shape and then heat treated. It is supposed to give the spring a longer life. It also has the advantage of the individual coils not wanting to roll over each other under compression. The cross section of flat wire is dimensionally thinner than round wire, but has a greater area. Look at a stock Glock recoil spring to see the difference. Extra springs are available from me for $10 ea. 1 Quote
