  1. My SBE slug forearm fits the regular barrel just fine. No rattling or loosness as some have claimed. So, I guess one should order the slug gun complete, and then order an extra barrel. Saves one forearm purchase. mudhen - CA
  2. Because folks like you abuse this forum for your own personal tantrums. Title of Post: "Topic: SBE II PROBLEMS a summary Would like comments" I merely provided comments as you requested! If you can't handle the replies, don't ask for them! You didn't ask for comments that necessarily agreed with you, so I thought it was acceptable to disagree with you. Next time you should ask for only replies that agree with you. The SBE II is functionally sound. As is the Lexus with 25 assembly line defects. Especially since Benelli has addressed and remedied the problems. Now, if you were addressing a non-remedied problem, then I might be more inclined to agree with your rant. I'm sure the slipping butt pad is annoying, but Benelli offered the fix. Same with the safety spring issue. Same with the choke tube wrench. Has anyone here not received the proper choke tube wrench upon request? Has anyone not had their safety spring fixed upon request? See where I'm going with this? Benelli sells a gun created by human beings. Benelli is run by human beings. Give them a chance to be human and fix the little problems. As to the Lexus issue, you have the defect fixed at the next oil change under warranty. That's what reasonable folks do. No affiliation with B-USA, just a fan of a little reasonable respect for my fellow human beings... mudhen - CA
  3. Yet with all that, they still sell every gun they make. Wow, they should really pay more attention to you! They should really learn to appreciate your needs. Do you want a tissue? It's all cosmetic fluff, just like your trolling drivel. Gas in my area is now $2.50 a gallon and I drive 25,000 miles a year, Browning Golds in 3" are about to top $950 and the 3.5" is already near $1100, The Beretta Extrema is over $1100 for camo, and Glocks are approaching $600. Where will the madness end? Did you know even a new Lexus has around 25 defects right off the assembly line? Take your fluffy trolling banter elsewhere, or come up with more substantial issues. Other than the molded sling issue, Benelli has remedied your 3 other panty-bunching complaints. mudhen - CA
  4. Test the firing pin by pushing on the end. If it pops out smoothly, it's fine. If it does work, then the bolt is not closing all the way. That can be either operator error by improper shouldering (happens to me when I get lazy), a dirty lock-up area, weak recoil spring, lack of lubrication, bad shells (happened to me with Kent Faststeel - so I stopped using it), etc. Check for all of the above. mudhen - CA
  5. Ok ok, you guys are not all on the same page. Benelli factory slug barrels come drilled and tapped with screw covers and open sights. I presume Benelli finds this offering sufficient for now. The SBE has been around for 15 years, so I can presume that they feel there is not sufficient demand for a cantilever barrel. On the SBE, there would be no real advantage of a cantilever over drilled and tapped because the receiver and barrel are one piece. However, on the M1 & M2, I can certainly see why someone might want a cantilever, as the barrel and receiver are 2 piece. I guess no one can be all things to all folks. Benelli can barely keep up with the demand for what it currently stocks, I can't imagine that they are eager to add more skus. From my own personal experience with slugs barrels, I far perfer the open sights. I hunt Iowa and most of the shots are at running deer at close range. A scope actually hinders at that range. 95% of our shots are close up like that. I think Benelli is serving the vast majority of hunters with what they currently offer. mudhen - CA

You had better learn how to field strip a Benelli before you go any further, that is just common safety sense. With firing pin problems, the last thing you do is keep trying to fire live shells. Obtain a copy of the factory Benelli instructions and read the section of disassembly and reassembly of the bolt assembly. I am guessing that something has broken or is clogged with all that 'good' oil and crud. Benellis are intended to be shot clean with very light oil. For parts nomenclature, I suggest reading the schematics on www.brownells.com. mudhen - CA
  7. Is it the factory recoil reducer? If so, it is designed to be used without the original retaining nut. My directions called for the removal of the original stock retaining nut. mudhen - CA
  8. Not an M1, but I do have 20,000 rounds though a 14 y.o. SBE. I have broken 2 ejector plates, both easily fixed. Benelli redesigned the ejector assembly some time ago, so I would not expect that to be a problem. There have been several springs replaced just as preventative maintenance. I did have a barrel ring crack in 2000. Fixed quickly by Benelli, I suspect a loose mag cap (nubs worn smooth over the years). Any Benelli with the updated ejector should be able to go thousands of rounds without problem. mudhen - CA
  9. Don't think about it - just do it! I like any Foster slug from Brenneke in a smooth bore Benelli. Their website is loaded with info; www.brennekeusa.com. I use IC when shooting Fosters. Rhino makes a great rifled choke tube for the Benelli - the chokes for all older Benellis are the same - SBE/M1/Monte. They are hard to find, but I'm sure a call to Rhino will do it - 800-226-3613. Cabelas sells a factory rifled tube for the Benelli. Once you are rifled, sabots are advised. My SBE prefers Winchester Platinum Tip 2.75" 400 grain 1700 fps. The Partition Golds are faster, but my SBE patterns better with the Plats. Good luck! mudhen - CA

    Benelli came apart

benddg, That's kinda what I was thinking. Even though I don't have the brains to understand the whole "Crio" thing, the concept sure looks like a dream for turkey hunters. I sometimes get funky patterns from all my turkey guns - I really need consistancy. Since I travel to hunt quite a bit, I really need a solid gun that can make a wide variety of shots. Looks like the SBE II might be just what I need. mudhen - CA
  11. How did you attach the Limbsaver pad? I had not heard they had one out for the SBE II. If you dislike the SBE II, sell it. Put the money towards a gas 20 ga or maybe even a .410. mudhen - CA
  12. M1014 - what's up? I don't see your point. G-eda's 1st reply was completely accurate. ??? To try to answer the question, I have never tested the 20 ga slugs + Benelli combo, but I have shot 100's of test rounds through my SBE and the gun has taken 10 whitetails in Iowa. It all depends on what barrel you are using. If it is rifled, my Benelli has a clear taste for Winchester sabots. Both the Partition Gold and Platinum Tip pattern very well. I actually like the PT @ 1700 fps better than the PG @ 1900 fps. btw - there is no real reason to shoot 3" slugs even if you can find them, its the velocity & mass that matter. If you are shooting a smooth barrel, buy a few brands of Foster's slugs and see what your gun prefers. In smoothbore, my 12 ga M1 liked anything from Brenekke first, with all the standard slugs working fine. I bet the 20 ga Winchester Super X would work fine. Good luck - test as many slugs as you can! mudhen - CA

    Benelli came apart

Awfully hard to look at the SBE II with a glass-smooth 14 y.o. SBE that still works great + a 2 y.o. SBE slug gun + reg barrel that plunks whitetails and toms on a regular basis. I like the SBE II - feels great at the shoulder - but I just can't justify the $1300+ with these other Benellis running so well. That being said, I will probably own a SBE II by next turkey season! mudhen - CA

    Benelli came apart

The invoice only said "updated ejector assembly", but I know what parts they worked on. They put in a new locking head pin for sure, bright and shiny with different markings on the top. They ground indents into the receiver to allow better tool access to the ejector plate cover screws. The screws looked new, so I can presume they took the cover off and looked around. I'm guessing they put in a new ejector plate not knowing that I had already done that, but I'm not complaining! The cap that came from Brownells sure looked like factory - I bought the one w/o swivel to avoid the dreaded rain in the action syndrome. The new one has not budged one notch while shooting. mudhen - CA

    Benelli came apart

The ring on my 14 y.o. SBE cracked off in 2000. Benelli fixed in 29 days including the shipping time - during waterfowl season. Re-blued and undated some ejector features while it was there. Also put in a few new parts while there. All at no charge. I suspect the issue involved a loose mag cap + some weld problems. When the ring broke, the nubs on the mag cap were about worn smooth. I would tighten the cap several times during each hunt. The wear was consistent with 20,000 magnum rounds and hundreds of disassemblys. I bought a new cap from Brownells a few years back. Nubs look fine. mudhen - CA
  16. www.brownells.com has stocked Benelli parts for at least 13 years. mudhen - CA
  17. They are in stock at most dealers in the Sacto area. All priced at MSRP or $30-$40 above MSRP. I hear they are better priced in the SJ valley - Barnwood Arms & Autolife in Modesto, etc. mudhen - CA
  18. I don't know. I feel no difference. A mercury recoil reducer in the stock works for me, but the ported tubes have no effect that I can feel. But they are good for blowing the eardrums of guys shooting next to you and getting powder in your eye on windy days! Check with Briley - they have good info. mudhen - CA
  19. I see many complaints about all brands of guns. Stoeger seems to have it's share of minor gripes. I own several Benellis and they too have had some problems. But just like your favorite car or truck or atv or spouse/significant other, if you find that item to be useful and a good fit for you, you can learn to live with minor issues and/or learn to fix the problems. I have a 13 y.o. SBE that has gone though about 15,000 magnum waterfowl loads. With 15,000 rounds, one would expect a few parts to wear out. A quick order to Brownells each year, and that SBE is ready for season 14. A d-ring here, a pin there, a new spring every so often, no big deal. It's like buying new brake pads for the car. The folks that get on this site and spew "I paid $1500 for this jammomatic - it should work forever for $1500" just amaze me........ mudhen - CA
  20. I think they interchange just fine. I have had to adjust the washer rings in the forearm when switching from wood to synthetic and back though. My older SBE came with 3 rings + a retaining ring. mudhen - CA
  21. I'm going to guess plastic residue. Clean with any good plastic fouling cleaner. mudhen - CA

    worn part

Same wear pattern as all of my Benelli locking head pins. But, a few years ago I sent an SBE back for some work and Benelli replaced my locking head pin with a "revised" one. You can buy a new pin for $12 at Brownells, but I doubt it is causing your jams. I have lots of funny wear marks that don't seem to cause any trouble. I would contact Benelli with this question. mudhen - CA

    Broken SBE

IMHO - that's going to be an easy fix. A new cartridge drop lever is only $19 at Brownells. Good luck. mudhen - CA

    Broken SBE

That is a pricey part from Brownells - $105. I'd like to know how it got bent - seems almost impossible without human error. I think your carrier pin worked loose for some reason and allowed the 'bend' to occur. Maybe the pin retaining spring came off - I have lost several of these $7.00 springs (obviously made of some rare precious metal). I think the damage occured when the gun was fired with the carrier pin loose. I would be willing to bet Benelli will work something out, I predict you will end up happy. mudhen - CA
  25. Sorry - that's just the way it is in this business! Everything about the Supersport and Sport II has been a long wait. At least you will eventually have a pre-fit pad! Oddly, Beretta is amazingly complete with their selection of pre-fit gel pads. You would think Benelli would get at least some step-child scraps. Thank goodness Sims has at least one pre-fit recoil pad for most Benellis. Browning is the absolute worst for shotgun accessories. I own two Browing Gold Hunters that have NO pre-fit recoil pad available from ANY manufacturer, much less a gel-pad. Browning's catalog shows a Hi-Viz that you have to have ground to fit!!!! Grind to fit here in Cali is a $100+ deal that takes several months if your are lucky. Sorry you are so unhappy with Benelli - maybe you should think about switching to Beretta? - they have an amazing selection of accessories - their 2004 catalog is simply stunning.... mudhen - CA
