  1. What gun? How old? Any photos? How many rounds through that barrel? That sounds bizarre for Benelli to not replace the barrel ASAP. Last report of cracking barrels was 1st year Novas. Yours sounds like an obstruction or bad ammo, but a barrel defect is certainly possible. Good luck! mudhen - CA
  2. Stupidly, I asked our state warden about it in January. I guess there was a big rumor in the early 90's that SBE's were being confiscated because they 'could' float a fourth shell. He said that many, many, years ago, a few hunters (maybe 2-3 total) were actually observed shooting four shells on a federal refuge. The feds made the bust and sucessfully confiscated the SBE's. All the hype out here came from those few cases. He said that for him to care, he would have to view/hear the four shell volley, know the shooter was alone, and be certain that the shooter was floating a fouth shell in the field. I asked if that had ever happened and he laughed and said it would almost be impossible to prove. But the guys that are JB welding are not helping their own defense if caught. If suspected of floating, and facing a judge, how will the shooter explain the JB weld? Wardens of all kind read these websites - they know about all the tricks. Wardens and judges may not be totally hip to reality, but they are not stupid..... mudhen - CA
  3. Ditto. One shot kill on a small Iowa buck this past season. 94 yards, iron sights, dropped pretty much dead. It was the only slug I found to be accurate for me. mudhen - CA
  4. Good enough. I really hear good things about Canyon Sports; CANYON SPORTS 887-F HOWE ROAD MARTINEZ CA 94553 925-229-4867 Ask them to order you a fresh gun. Good luck! mudhen - CA
  5. Why would you post this if you are merely looking for a good Benelli dealer? "I REALLY wanted a NOVA Pump and was already planning to purchase the NOVA H2O too. Now I don't know..." A dig is a dig is a dig..... Try Canyon Sports - Fremont or someplace near there. This website is for comments - that was my comment - deal with it.... mudhen - CA
  6. If you are searching for absolute perfection from a firearm, it is unlikely you will be happy with any Benelli product. The mag tube becomes quite worn over time on the Nova pump. The Nova also rattles, forever. So do yourself a favor, buy another brand of firearm, it will save yourself (and us) much time and energy. May I suggest Mossberg?...... mudhen - CA [ 02-13-2005, 05:17 PM: Message edited by: mudhen ]
  7. Surfscoter, Yep, that physically can't happen. What does happen is on some shots like overhead, if you puss-shoulder the gun (like I do once a year) or do the bicep mount, the bolt sort of hangs back momentarily after the empty is ejected, the new shell comes up off the carrier and just sort of dribbles out the port as the bolt closes. Hard to describe the misfeed, but my buddy watched it happen to me last week and that is what he described. The shell landed at my feet both times. I think the weak mount sort of interferes with the inertia cycle. No way is it ejecting a live shell 4 feet away like some describe, no way.... mudhen - CA
  8. The only form I was concerned with was inside those jeans..... mudhen - CA
  9. Sorry - but I voted for the cute girl.... mudhen - CA
  10. Raised rib shoots fine for me - but I have bent the rib on every Benelli I have owned. Getting a bit tired of bending them back - they look like crap once bent. mudhen - CA
  11. Last weekend of waterfowling season here in CA. Next comes turkeys???.... mudhen - CA

    Which M1 to buy

Buy the slug gun complete, then buy a regular barrel from e-bay or a Benelli dealer. My slug forearm fits the regular barrel, but I have heard that the the slug forearm does not fit the regular barrel. M1 and Super 90 M1 are the same gun. mudhen - CA
  13. I gave up on 3.5" Drylocks years ago - the expanded hull was getting hung up on ejection and getting stuck lengthwise when the bolt closed. Maybe a crimp problem? Hull length too long? Same shells jammed in a Browning Gold too. The sharp throat is something some Benellis get over time. The side of the chamber mouth gets rather sharp over the years and can hang up and/or shave shells that are not perfectly round. If shells start hanging up on this sharp edge, I take a diamond knife sharpener and just dull the edge a bit. Don't know about the heavy clothing, but I did cause a few jams this year on overhead shots when I didn't hold the gun firmly against my shoulder. mudhen - CA

New from a dealer is at least $400. Maybe try e-bay? mudhen - CA
  15. One more week to go!..... mudhen - CA
  16. I have had nothing but trouble with 3.5" Drylocks. Funny because the HV work perfectly. I use Breakfree CLP for all my Benellis. It helps keep the black finish black. The shell not feeding is an indicator of an interruption in the inertia system. The bolt did not travel back far enough to engage the new shell. It happens from time to time, especially on a new gun that has not been broken in. I caused my own jam on Saturday on a straight over head shot. Just threw the gun up and didn't hold it firmly. Last shell would not feed. Yes, it will happen again. I have had 40 or so jams over the years...... in about 25,000 rounds...... most are as you described with yours..... mudhen - CA
  17. They grow much rice in Cali. It is one of the three main rice areas in the US. Arky rice fields are better for hunting though, ours fields have high levees and take a lot of water to fill and keep filled. That Arky photo shows what the birds really like, shallow water where the feed is readily accessible. mudhen - CA
  18. It's the gun - not me - it's like the car movie/book Christine - I have no control over it..... Cali ain't all bad.... mudhen - CA
  19. It has to be the gun! Shot one widgeon at 7 a.m., nothing for two solid hours, just about to leave and I see 5 widge heading for the decoys. I let them work overhead and off to my right a bit (my favorite angle - aka the one I'm least likely to miss) and start picking them off. Two with the first shot (I meant to do that, really!), one each with the next two shots, reload without even looking for #5 because I know what they do when their buddies start falling, and look right up at #5 @ 25 yards and dump #5. All 5 stone dead in the decoys. Gotta love Benellis...... mudhen - CA
  20. I managed to work all day after the hunt. I just have to watch for Mr. CHP while on the way to work! mudhen - CA
  21. Rice was a bit slow today, but the scaup was kinda a neat visitor! mudhen - CA
  22. I think if you ask CS for a new pad @ no charge, you will get one. I have heard they are out of stock though, prolly because they have had to replace so many! The problem appears to be that some of the pads were undersized. They will also fix the safety problem @ n/c, just ask. Never heard of the other trigger issue. Good luck! mudhen - CA
  23. Me too! Good job on the scoop T301! mudhen - CA
  24. I think they are Outlaws and RealGeese. As you can see, we really don't brush our rice blind out, we think it makes the blind stand out more than if you just leave it muddy and nasty just like where the ducks and geese sit and eat and crap..... mudhen - CA
  25. A little fog in the Cali rice makes for a busy Benelli day! mudhen - CA
