Your intent wasn't to point fingers at anyone but the responses here that were negatively directed at one person went unanswered, by anyone. Only when someone else came in and said it was hypocritical to the initial point was anything said. Seems odd, but... ok. Like I said, I don't have any reason to dislike anyone here so...

Decoying for water setup. Decoying for field setup. [ 09-30-2006, 10:27 PM: Message edited by: sdkidaho ]

Cool pics! Opening weekend is next weekend for me. I hope to come back from my first waterfowl hunt with something to show you all.

I really like the Canvasback. I'd like to do a drake and a hen. I'm sure it'll turn out looking like a floating turd, but... I'll have fun trying it.

Cute. And you wonder why some people respond the way they do in these forums? Maybe it's because of your attitude, but that's just a guess. I've nothing against someone being a smart@ss, as long as it's funny - you just don't happen to have been funny with that reply, but rather you contradict what you preach in your initial post. Thumbs up on that one. Bottom line is, I came to these forums as a complete stranger and newbie to Benelli firearms. I know exactly nothing about shotguns - I figure at best I'm a novice. Sure, I can go out and knock birds or clays out of the sky, but I still figure I'm too new to most of this to be much help to anyone. That's why when you see me reply to someones question it's something that any Joe-blow could look up. And it's why you'll see me ask newbie type questions. Regardless of all that, Tucker has been someone to help not only myself, but countless others - a great guy to know. We've never met in person but I can tell you that I think he's a stand-up guy and he is someone I would gladly hunt with. Most people are offended when the obvious is pointed out to them. Again I would have to say this is due to a lack of common sense - on their part. If you're going to post crap about others, and preach decency to others, then at least have that same decency to point out the good they do as well. A hypocrite is defined as a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, especially one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements. I think that comes down to the old saying: practice what you preach. I don't know you, and I have no reason to dislike you, not even after your last comment. I will however continue to form an opinion of you based upon future interactions. No skin off your back I'm sure, that is unless you were hoping to seem better than the guys you were preaching about in your initial post. Right?

As for that statement... nothing like poking strange people (animals?) with a stick. You want a kinder response? That isn't the way to get one. More torches and pitchforks I guess. [ 09-30-2006, 05:08 PM: Message edited by: sdkidaho ]

And reading back through your question, you asked something that you yourself had all of the needed parts to answer. Right? Yes, anyone could have just answered that knew, but it seemed sort of odd to ask a question that you could answer with everything you had physically before you. Others saying "try it out" wasn't the answer you wanted, but it was the logical, and or common sense, answer, don't you agree? Presentation of the answer aside, the answer itself made sense. Correct? Anyone make their own decoys? Or just carve some for fun? I've been looking at maybe doing one just for fun - not necessarily to use while hunting but just something to do. I found a place that sells a kit with everything you need to make one, and instructions on how to do it. Looks kinda cool. If I give it a whirl and don't wind up with a smurf instead of a duck maybe I'll show you the end product.

The second one, did they bronze the head and feet? Definitely unique. Not something I would do, but definitely unique. I like the first one - very nice looking. Hope to bag a turkey some day myself.

Hey, how about you don't spam every forum with this? I just read it in the main forum and replied and now find it here too? What's up with that? If anything this makes it look like your trying to pick a fight. A couple guys jumping on the bandwagon and encouraging you doesn't make you right. If I scream my opinion at the top of my lungs it doesn't make me right - it just makes me loud. Same principle here - by posting this in more than one spot here in the Benelli forums it makes your point look like spam to me. Also, did you notice you're gathering up the villagers that want to carry a torch or pitchfork, rather than follow your advice? I'm sure that wasn't your intent, but that's the joy of the internet... your point can easily get watered down and washed away when just anyone and their brother can post and detract from it. I'd stick with one forum when posting something like this. It's annoying to read the same thing in several forums on the same board.

I just read the High Horse thread, and after reading your last response here all I can think is... man, Tucker, you sure are a b@stard!

My first question on this forum was a two part question - the first was a question for another guy that was having trouble with his Benelli, and the second part was something I wanted to know. Tucker was the first one to respond. My second question was about barrel length. Often beat to death in this forum I've noticed. Tucker was the first one to respond. Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to defend Tucker. He's a big boy and can give as well as he gets, but he as well as some of the others that I'm sure you are thinking of, give a lot of help to people on this forum. Yes, some responses come across as unkind from some of the members here, but I think a lot of that has to do with how any post is presented in the first place. Is that a good enough excuse? Probably not, but it is nice to see a little common sense used from time to time. If you personally don't like the answer someone else has given then the answer to that is to answer the question yourself in a way you find appropriate. If a post is offensive to you then by all means, click on the little picture of the whistle and report it, but don't expect a moderator to remove or edit every post you report as your opinion is just that, yours, and may not be shared by everyone else. You do however, have the right to report anything you feel is out of line. Not everyone is well versed in netiquette, unfortunately, so a little education isn't out of line. How it's presented varies of course, from user to user, but this again goes back to my statement of enjoying common sense from time to time. You are absolutely right that anyone that comes here seeking answers should get help, though I would argue that line of thought with this: When I go to someone elses home, and ask a question, I speak clearly, I am polite, and I do not do so without attempting to have looked up the answer myself first. I don't believe for a minute that anyone who was capable of logging into the internet, finding this forum, and capable of typing out a message, couldn't have done a little research on their own, or even made an attempt to type out a message that is something everyone can understand. Spelling and grammar aside, it's nice to be able to understand what someone is trying to ask. Fortunately I'm fluent in typo. Regardless of all of that, people will always come here and ask questions here first rather than looking for themselves (even me). I think everyone here understands that. It's why thousands of those questions get answered all the time. Be that as it may, I would hope those new people at least make an attempt to present their question intelligently, without coming out saying how bad this product or that product sucks, and how they are going to tell everyone they know to never buy from company X, or without us having to find a thirteen year old to translate the dude-speak or shorthand because they were too lazy to type out a whole word. It's a two way street.

September 11, 2001 was a day that many of us will never forget. It is my own personal hope that all of those families that lost loved ones that day have been able to move forward in life and find better days. Darby

I think I better go check my guns for rust now.

How would they give those answers about how they handle whatever if someone didn't have a concern/complaint in the first place?

Just a reminder as this is some good info.

I went out yesterday (Sept. 1st) after work to an area I hadn't been to before. It really looked like great grouse country but we didn't see a thing. There was plenty of cover, snow berries, rose hips, huckle berries, etc, so I know there was plenty of feed for them, and a water source in the draw we hunted, but... we never saw a thing. Uli was being kinda slow and sluggish, and I thought for sure he was just being lazy, but after this morning I think he was just too hot and that was slowing him down. So, this morning we went out to a place that we went riding our four wheelers on Wednesday after work. On the way out that evening we saw five ruffed grouse all in one spot together so I figured I'd give it a try up there and hope that I wouldn't run into a bunch of people riding their four wheelers since it's Labor Day weekend. I got to the trailhead and there was a truck and camp trailer there - I thought "Oh great." but no one was stirring about and their four wheeler was still parked there, so we unloaded and headed up. It was nice and cool, about 45 degrees, and the creek provided plenty of fresh water for Uli whenever he wanted it. He was full of energy - nothing like the night before. He stopped once on the trail and locked up hard with a beautiful point. Man he looked awesome! I was so excited that I forgot to take the camera out and snap a shot. Crap! No bird that time, just a false point, but it sure was pretty. We eventually came to a spot where I didn't want to wade the creek and so we stayed next to the mountain side and worked our way through the brush. The first bird Uli went past, I'm guessing it was coming down the hill and so he didn't cross it's scent and didn't see it either, but his movement spooked the bird enough for me to see him and so I took him. Here is Uli packing him (after some encouragement): Here he is sitting with the bird down in front of him: After some more hiking I decided to head back down. We had started at about 8:30 and we had gotten the first bird about 9:45, it was then about 10:30 when we started back down the mountain. On the way back I noticed him getting really birdie and was watching him follow some scent and thats when we got the second bird. About five minutes after that three four-wheelers came up the trail, and about five minutes after that an older guy came up on one as well, with a bow slung across his back. He had been up there looking for elk but hadn't been successful. Nice guy. We talked for 15 or 20 minutes and then headed out. Here's another of Uli and I back at the house: Had a good time. Not too bad for the second day of the season.
