My R-1 .308 winchester shoots the 150 grain Remington pointed soft point like a champion bench gun. 1" groups or less @ 100 yards. I am considering using it for a varmit gun.

My R-1 loves 150 grain Remington pointed soft point. I recently shot several 3-shot groups @ 100 yards that were between 1/2" to 1". ( you can cover the entire group under half of a quarter).I was actually amazed! As far as the trigger, try looking at it as a positive instead of a negative. To sensitive of a trigger on a semi-automatic isn't a good thing. I hated the trigger on my rifle when I first bought it, but the more I shot it... the more accurate I became.While the triggers on these guns are stiffer than we'd like... they are pretty smooth.

Bossman, My R-1 is caliber .308 winchester also. I have shot a variety of hornady/nosler bullets including 150 grain,165 grain and 180 grain loads thru my rifle.They were all boat-tail bullets. I never found a consistant load to my liking. I even went as far as reloading nosler partician bullets in each of the before mentioned grain weights to no satisfaction. However the 150 grain bullets always seemed to group best. What I did notice was that the shorter the bullet...the better the group (3 shots)@ 100 yards.Then I started thinking about what was going on! Since the R-1 has a 1-11 twist in the barrel, the shorter bullets were stablizing best. I completely got away from the longer boat-tail loads. (I bought 1 box of the old reliable Remington pointed soft points in 150 grain.) My gun began shooting very tight groups of 1" or less at 100 yards. The best group I have shot was so tight that it would fit under half of a quarter. Asd far as seasoning the barrel I have cleaned my barrel once in probably 80- 100 rounds fired. i have shooting buddies that swear by bolt action accuracy that can't believe their eyes...I BET YOUR RIFLE WILL DO THE SAME...GOOD LUCK. please let me know what the results are.

Do not reload the brass that has been shot in your R-1. It is pretty much trashed because of expansion in the chamber. It is completely different than reloading used brass that has been run through a bolt action or pump action rifle. You can however load your own using new casings and should eliminate the problem.

Glad to hear about your break-in experience. Please keep us abreast when you put your scope on and sight in.

My gun dealer told me that HE ammo was not recommended. I was very disappointed because I have been shooting Bear claw bonded light magnums in 165 grain in my remington bolt action. From what I'm hearing from othe R-1 rifle owners 150 grain bullets are prescribed for best accuracy. I was told by a very experienced and knowledgable person whos opinionI respect very much that the 150 grain bullets will stablize best with the 1-11 barrel twist because of it shorter length..compared to heavier grain bullets...I would welcome your comments

Burris standard rings work fine

Make sure your picatinny rail is facing the proper direction. I beleive it has front stamped in the center of the rail. That should take care of that problem

In the first place, if you believed that the cost of the rilfe is directly attributable to its accuracy, regardless of design, build, and intended pupose, then you are severely ignorant of rifle design and function. Secondly, if you are unable to sight in the R1 because of the trigger pull, then you are completely incompetent and should not own a rifle of any make. You are probably the most arrogant person that I have ever read a post from...I will invite you to shoot a 6lb trigger against mine any day. Trigger pull is the key to accurate consistant groups. I can see that you like many others, that holding an FFL doesn't make you knowledgable of firearms or abilty to shoot. Ask any shooter what determines accuracy. 1. a good trigger 2. bolt lock up and lock time 3. cartridge chambering and spacing on or off lands Tucker301 How does the Benelli television commercial slogan go?I beleive it is something like this... " "Quality worth the Price" I say Horse apples. There seems to be way to much dicussion about the nasty trigger pull /pressue issue. The reason stated on the website is that it is a saftey precaution against lawsuits from consumers accidental shooting themselves.( oh yeah... don't forget to write back when you get out of the hospital) These guns should be recalled by Benelli.

FOR SALE...slightly used Benelli R-! rifle I recently bought an R-1 in caliber 308 Win. I have shot nearly 2 full boxes of ammo trying to get it sighted-in. Unfortunatley for me I didn't know about the "GARBAGE" trigger until after I had already bought it. I would never have spent this kind of money on a rifle that will not shoot anywhere as accurate as a $379 remington model 700 bolt action in the same caliber. My rifle has been impossible to sight-in. I attribute this to the trigger pull issue. (My kids have a super soaker squirt gun with a crisper feeling trigger). Why a quality gun maker such as Benelli makes a gun that requires 6.5-7.5 pound trigger is beyond me. I put a 3x9 leupold european 30mm tube scope on it with burris rings that required shimming on the picanny mount (another issue in itself). None of the quality scope makers have mounts for the R-1. Be prepared to mix and match scopes and rings. I had planned on buying a Benelli shot gun next but I have reconsidered that decision as I am so disqusted with the R-1 rifle. Customer service (non-service) never sent me the catalog I requested. It still hasn't come to this day. Do not waste your time emailing because of the simple reason they do not write back. While the R-1 is a handsome looking firearm looks can be deceiving because it does not have the preformace or service to back it up. I will be putting my R-1 on consignment A.S.A.P.
