OK, OK------ Tucker and mudhen, I guess it comes down to personal preference. You made good points defending the SBE II. As far as appearance goes, I like the looks of the SBE 1 better------- and it is a proven model. For me the SBE 1 is fine because I wear "trigger finger" gloves, when I wear gloves, so I have no need for the enlarged guard. Like the old saying goes----- "each to his own".

In regards to comparing the SBE to the SBE II, I see three major points that the SBE 1 HAS OVER the II. 1) The magazine tube cap on the 1 is metal(steel I believe) and is more durable than the plastic one on the II, in my opinion. 2) The sling swivel connector on the stock of the SBE 1 is steel-----not plastic like the II. 3) And most important, the trigger guard on the II is plastic, not metal and is BUTT UGLY compared to the metal one on the SBE 1 !!!

Thanks for your responses, guys! I have a couple other questions: tucker----Is Right Hand cast off the same thing as Left Hand cast on? Do you need to use different locking plates to accomplish this as the manual implies? dagrizz----Can you just turn the steel plate around the other way to change from Right Hand cast on to Left Hand cast on? I tried calling Benelli customer assistance to get this question answered------but never got through----which seems to be typical for them, unfortunately!

I recently purchased a brand new, right-handed SBE 1. I am a left handed shooter, but always use right-handed guns. My question is regarding the steel locking plate that goes inside the stock and is matched to the appropriate stock shim. What I need to know is whether I need to use a left hand locking plate or if one of the right-handed ones that came with the gun will work OK? It is kind of an unusual question, but I thought one of you guys might have some input. Thanks!

I thought they were dealer direct with no wholesaler middlemen------but I may be wrong.

I need to change the drop shim and stock locking plate in my new SBE. In the owners manual it shows how to do it and it mentions removing the stock retaining nut as part of the process. Is this the nut you are talking about? In the instructions telling how to change the shim it says " the replacement procedure is very easy" and makes no mention of having to heat anything. This is going to piss me off if I have to be heating things and screwing around just to adjust the stock drop so I can shoot it. Please, someone confirm if the stock retaining nut is the one that has the locktite on it-------I hope not!

As I mentioned elsewhere in the forum, I just bought a new SBE I about three days ago. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet. I am really excited about it. I also have a Beretta 303 gas gun that I bought about 15 years ago. I have used it for upland birds and mostly waterfowl shooting. I am not sure what it's exact cycling speed is but it is pretty **** quick. I have had excellent reliability with this Beretta. Never had to clean it in the field. I plan to keep the 303 for many years and will continue to use it occaisonally, but the SBE will be my new primary weapon. "The torch has been passed"!

mudhen, That's a sweet looking SBE in your photo. It definitely has a lot of "character" and has seen many successful hunts. I just bought a new SBE from my local Sportsman's Warehouse-----it was the last SBE they had in stock. I opted for it over an SBE II because I like the looks of the original one and recoil does not bother me as much as some folks. After I add one of those X-Coil pads like you recommended, I don't think it will be bad at all. Nice drake pinner------I have one similar to it mounted in my den. Hey mudhen, Thanks so much for the info on the X-Coil pad----------I was not aware of it as an option.

Do any of you guys know if the SBE II ComforTech recoil pad will go right onto a SBE. And if so, would it work better or worse than a Limbsaver pad. Thanks!

I am planning on purchasing a original Super Black Eagle that is brand new. I am thinking about purchasing a Limbsaver recoil pad and one of the Benelli mercury recoil reducer cylinders that go inside of the stock. I would really appreciate any feedback that you guys have concerning the Limbsaver recoil pad and/or the Benelli recoil reducer for the SBE. I am hoping with these two devices to reduce recoil down somewhere near that of the SBE II. Thanks for any help you have to offer!
