  1. Sounds like it the bolt is not locking into battery. Meaning that it is not going all the way forward. I've had this happen on mine when the gas piston was dirty. I would remove and clean the gas piston and try again.
  2. I may have to get my R-1 one out of the safe and she what I can find with it this fall. Steve
  3. The gas piston does come apart and I found that it had to be cleaned after each and every firing or mine would get gunked up and misfire. I wrote a thread on it with photos. See it here. http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php/14472-Gas-Piston Good luck
  4. My R-1 would also do the same thing when the gas piston was dirty. The dirty piston would prevent the bolt from locking into battery and the firing pin would fire but fail to strike the primer. One easy way for me to check to make sure it was free was to remove the foregrip and pull the bolt back, the gas piston should move freely. When it gets fouled it causes friction and the bolt will not lock all the way into battery. Steve
  5. I use a bore snake in the field, but take it apart and remove the bolt and clean it with a carbon fiber rod from the breach once I get home. I store mine with it broken down, not sure if they have improved the gas piston since I bought mine in 2005, but I have had it get stuck together and just found it better to keep the barrel and receiver apart. Read the entire gas piston thread,, I have photos of how I clean mine using a boreguide. Steve
  6. Congrats on you new R-1,, don't really take anything special as far as tools goes. I like to use a punch or allen wrench to remove the piston nut, but you can use the end of the barrel nut that holds on the foregrip. The key I found is to NEVER put it away with cleaning the gas piston. This thread will get you started PM me with any questions. I have shot mine a lot, in rain and near salt water. http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php/14472-Gas-Piston Good Luck Steve
  7. A couple videos from last Moose season. Let me know what you think. Steve
  8. The DNZ mount replaces the rail, it is a ring/rail combo. I don't see away to shim the front or back independently. http://www.dnzproducts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66_50&products_id=372 Steve
  9. Look at your factory rail. One end is thicker than the other, and if memory serves me correctly the factory rail is marked with front. I tried a DNZ mount and discovered the same problem you are finding. I went back to the factory rail and a set of Warne Quick detachable rings. Allows me to remove the scope for cleaning and transport. I sent my DNZ mount back with a note telling them about the issue and received a refund. Use the factory rail as a guide, and measure the thicker part and make sure you installed the DNZ the correct way. I'm away from home now and can't look at mine for a reference. Steve

    New R1

Congrats on your new rifle. Check out these two old threads for some ideas, and clean it, clean it, clean it. Pay attention to the gas piston thread. http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php/11936-What-have-U-shot-with-your-R-1 http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/showthread.php/14472-Gas-Piston Steve

  18. They are plastic, push them out with something pointy. Steve
  19. No Sir, My R-1 and I have had a great run. I have shot out the barrel and have chosen a bolt action as my go to weapon. I have some big bear hunts planned and I needed more firepower. Good luck with your shopping... Steve
  20. Moved up here about 6 years ago. I'm home now, without doubt the most beautiful place I have ever been. The winters can be tough. However you learn how to adjust and find things to do inside. Steve
  21. Still around, it's still winter up here in the great land. I did get a chance to get out and shoot my R-1 some, having a hard time getting it to group. I have fired over 2000 rounds with it and I'm afraid that the barrel may be starting to feel it. I scoped it and saw that the rifling is burnt away opposite of the gas port opening, it also has some throat erosion. May have to look for a new barrel for it. Going after bears next year in some big bear country, might have to consider a little more firepower. I have a lot of time in the field and history with my R-1, but all relationships has ups and downs. Still have a few more months to think about it. Good Luck All Steve

    Shooting Rest

The other issue I can see with clamping the mount to the barrel on a R-1 is that it would have to be removed to disassemble and clean the rifle, because of the way the foregrip slides off. When I hunt by the sea, I have to disassemble and clean my R-1 at least every other day or so. To each their own, more than one way to boil an egg. Steve

I was looking at their site and did see the barrel adapter. Too much added metal for me, plus it looks like it could cause rust between it and the barrel. Just cut and paste and replace the stars with i then pod. http://www.harrisb****s.com/HB4.html Steve

    Shooting Rest

The R-1 has an unique nut that holds the foregrip on. I have never seen a Harris mountable rest that would mount to it. This forum blocks certain key words to cut down on spam, that is why you can't get anything to show up that sounds like pod. Steve

    Shooting Rest

I bought my wife a setup made by Stoney Point. Works great and is not too heavy, she has taken several big game animals with it including bears. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0024205226425a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCHFEAT_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntk=Products&QueryText=shooting+sticks&sort=all&Go.y=0&N=0&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23&Go.x=0 Steve
