  1. I had a Browning Gold 3.5" for four years. It was reliable enough and all, but I always wanted a Benelli. This year I bought the SBEII. I like the handling better and it patterns better. I think I have a quicker follow up due to the balance and it seems to have more of a straight back kick. It's certainly not due to the recoil. The only advantage that the Browning had over the Benelli is less recoil. I only talked about the Browning because it is basically the same gun as the Winchester SX2. Like its already been said. If you're concerned with recoil, go with the SX2. On all other counts, SBEII is the winner. Of course SBEII comes with the price tag. Hey, I just thought of a new slogan... Benelli SBEII, the light gun with the heavy price tag... lol. I bought mine earlier in the year when they were $1349 here. Now that duck season is here they have gone up to $1399. So at least I saved that much.
  2. What he said... Just do some patterning and know what your gun will do. if you have the chance to try other tubes and ammo brands, see what your gun can do with these also. Turkeys are an illusive bird and most times you only get one chance.
  3. I wanted a new bug tamer in Realtree Hardwoods Green HD, but they were out of my size. I'll have to wait. Shotgun shells would be O.K. The guy at the store says they've recently had another price increase and they're going up again after the first of the year.
  4. I was limited on time and did some quick testing today. I patterned the Indian Creek .665 and .655 with my SBEII. I only shot 3 1/2" #5s because thats my favorite turkey load. I shot Winchesters, Federals and Hevi 13. I shot 2 ea. at 40 yards. They were both good but the .655 was slightly better. I'm keeping the .655. It did better with the Winchester and Hevi 13. It is flat out awesome with the Hevi 13 and that will most likely be my combination for this spring. The Winchesters are a close second. I didn't count pellets or anything yet but they were touching 2 and 3 together and lots in the 3" circle and the kill zone. I'll do some pellet counting and pictures and post them later.
  5. Here in SC we get 5 tags. You can kill 2 per day. But there's still a lot of Nova shooters here. I don't think you can go wrong either way. That 870 is a heckuva gun too though. Besides speed, I really don't know advantages for SBEII. I do shoot the SBEII and I can say I like it's light weight. It points real good for me and has a quick follow up. I hope I don't need the follow up on Turkeys but I have it just in case. If you have the extra cash, spring for the Black Eagle II. You won't go wrong either way.... Good luck
  6. Follow your heart. You don't want to look back a year from now and say what you should have done. The SBEII does shoot 3 1/2" shells. That doesn't mean it has to. I shoot 3 1/2" at turkeys, 3" for everything else.
  7. After reading the Sept issue of Field and Stream, their Best Gear of the Year issue, I bought a pair of Vortex Viper 10X42. They rated them best in their class. I really like them. They're Japanese glass. I wouldn't say they're Swarovski, I've never even looked through Swarovski, but they are super clear and super bright. I killed a 6 point buck this season at dusk dark that you couldn't see with just your eyes. I think binoculars are very important to your hunt. Some people say 10X42 is a little big and shaky, but I think they're the perfect all around size for multi use. I hunt open areas and in the woods and I use them for both.
  8. I spoke with Mike from Indian Creek yesterday. He's a heckuva nice guy. He's sending me a couple of tubes, the .655 and the .665. I'm going to buy one and send back the one I don't want. Hopefully I'll have them by the weekend. I'll pattern them and let you guys know how they do. I wanted to buy American made and Indian Creek is a sponsor and very involved with the NWTF. I hope their tubes shoot good in the Nelli.
  9. I love my SBE II. I would definately buy one again. When shooting 3" shells the recoil is as light as any other shotgun I've owned. But a 3 1/2" turkey load is an attention getter. You definately know you're shooting it. But I only shoot 3 1/2" for turkey hunting, and that only takes one shot.
  10. Who uses binoculars when they hunt? I figure most everyone does. What type of hunting, what type of terrain do you hunt? What power and what brand do you like?
  11. A deer hunters flashlight is an important tool as it serves many prposes from ighting your path to blood trailing that buck of a lifetime. What flashlight do you guys like the most? Tell us about it and the many uses...
  12. I have a little Mossy Oak Breakup, but my favorite is Realtree Hardwoods Green HD. They went to the New AP Green this year so most of my new stuff is that. I still like the Hardwoods Green but the new APG is growing on me. Camo patterns change a good bit now. I bought my Benelli SBE II in black so it'll never be outdated. My Browning was camo and some of it on the reciever was rubbing off and showing black, so I figured this time I'd just get black to start with.
  13. This could have been listed in any Hunting Thread, but what is everyones favorite camo? Why? What do you mainly hunt with it?
  14. When it comes to hunting, besides your gun and ammo, what is your favorite thing that you take along? Is it a favorite call? Your Bug Tamer Jacket? Another piece of clothes? A Thermacell? What is one of your favorite hunting items?
  15. That was the answer I needed. Thanks
  16. Is there a way to tell the age of a Benelli? I know on Brownings you could tell by serial numbers. Does anyone know if you can do this with Benellis? Thanks
  17. I'm kinda new too, but welcome. I've already been reading and learning, and I'm sure you have too. Seems like a cool bunch of people. Welcome again...
  18. Let us know what you find out about Indian Creek and Benelli. I'm very interested. I Patterned the Primos Jellyhead today and I was surprised. I got better patterns than I expected from a low priced tube. I shot Federal 3 1/2" #5 with the flight control wad amd the Winchester Premium 3 1/2" #5. Both grouped real well. Just for kicks, I tried a Federal 3 1/2" 00 Buckshot. I'd hunt with it. I didn't count the pellets, and I only shot 40 yards but it would have been lethal, I promise. I've only had Nelli about 3 weeks. I'm going to buy a high priced tube before spring. Probably a Kicks Gobblin Thunder like my buddy. I'm anxious to see what it'll do.
  19. I gotta tell ya... I had a Stoeger. It shot great. It was one of the best patterning shotguns I've ever owned. I loved it. I killed deer and turkey and some dove with it. But I got the fever for a 3 1/2" gun. I bought a Browning Gold Hunter. It didn't pattern as well as the Stoeger and I kind of regretted that move for a while. Well I recently got to thinking about the old Stoeger and decided I would get it's big brother, so I traded the Browning in on the SBE II. If I hadn't had the success and enjoyment from the Stoeger, I probably wouldn't have bought the Benelli.
  20. Oh yeah... Nice gobblers. That's what I plan on doing with my Nelli...
  21. I bought the Jellyhead already. Got a deal for like 29.00... What shells are you shooting through it??? I plan on patterning it this weekend...
  22. Man, I never thought it would be that hard to get a barrell. Wonder what is up? I know that'll leave a bad taste in your mouth... Good luck... I hope someone comes through for you soon.
  23. I have looked at Indian Creek, and wondered how they worked with Benelli. I may just give it a try. I see all the records they've broke. It's an expensive tube but sounds like it may be worth it. I've seen them for 74.95, anybody know where they're any cheaper?
  24. I don't want to hear from Razorback fans right now... They just ran through the Gamecocks like a dose of ex-lax... lol I keep all my shotguns well lubed. And high brass is about all I shoot. I mainly tukey hunt and about once a year deer hunt on a dog drive with shotgun and about once a year dove hunt. But first and foremost Nelli will be a turkey gun.
  25. We have to wait until spring here in S.C. But I'm getting ready. I bought the SBE II a few weeks ago and I'll be getting a Kick's choke tube next week. My buddy has this combo and it throws an awesome pattern and takes them longbeards down. It's cool to read you guy's stories. It gives me the fever...
