  1. Not much of the duck left when he's hit with a 10mm tungsten ball, oh yeah 1150 of them... Mg
  2. Check with member "Cleefurd", he is thinking of making replacement rails for the M4, see where they align, he may be able to set one up for you. I took a look at the one that came off my M4 when I put the sidesaddle on and some of them may align. Do you know anyone with an M4? Lay the $6 Weaver over it and compare. Mg
  3. Neatsfoot is a type of natural oil, Lin-Speed is a brand. as for care it's just one more step when you get home and clean them... Mg
  4. If you bought the replacement sights for the M4 they are made by Meprolight, a division of Kimber and are made with Tritium inserts. They glow on their own. I have a set and they are extremely dim. I spoke to Kimber and pretty much got the run-a-round with me leaving unanswerd messages on a bunch of lines. So no new information as of yet.
  5. I guess that would depend on what type of finnish you like. Gloss, satin or oil. A good Neatsfoot oil, handrubbed looks great, the more you do it the better it looks, then a light wax will give you varying degrees of shine. Birchwood-Casey Tru Oil or even better Lin-Speed Oil all put good finishes on stocks. Mike
  6. I will surely let you know if it changes. My main reason though was that under the increased tension the weapon could be fired at any angle... Mike
  7. Winchester 1oz Low Recoil Slug and Federal 9 pellet Low Recoil OO Buck are our duty rds, just went through a Train the Trainer with my M4 and fired (400) Buck, (250) Slug, in 30 hours. Not a problem. The M4 ate it for breakfast. Mike BTW - With the new Federal Flight Control (LE132) we could shoot head shots at (20) meters keeping all the pellets in the head. That's with the factory standard modified choke. Those new rds are fantastic. Left - Flight Control (20 yds) Right - Non Flight (20yds) (sorry, can't post our photo's, had to find one instead)
  8. My duty M4 only holds (4) Low recoil Slugs or Buck. All of them are less than 2 3/4 or 70mm. When I added the +2, I only went to (6). It seems that I'm just shy of that last round also. I've never been a fan of cutting coils. I recently purchased one of the CarrierComp springs made by Wolfe Springs. Cleefurd, Cliff, Kip - is very knowledgeable and I'm looking forward to installing it and seeing if there is a change. Mike
  9. Did you fire any other loads? Did they also fail to eject? You mentioned Fail to Fire, can you explain in more detail? Was the cartridge fully seated in the chamber when the hammer fell? Did you have full primer strike? Light primer strike? No primer strike? Hard for us to help with out some more specifics but believe me, everyone here likes that weapon system and wants you to have one that operates flawlessly.
  10. Dave's does have a couple of items that are handy, I like their over sized safety for one. Customer service is good also. But, they aren't exactly competition for you Cliff, are they? That's like saying the Mustang is competition to the Corvette....... Mg
  11. OK, Here we go again. First, All you need is one. Why take the chance. So when I advise to err on the side of caution it's good advice. Second, Check my website. Until recently I was partners in one of the largest Weapons Prop houses in Hollywood. I had daily contact with the BATF because we had an inventory of more than 1500 MG's, SBS's and DD's. So I've driven that turnip truck. My experience with Federal law is quite extensive and like I originally quoted "There are legality issues when placing an extension on your M4. Unless you are LE Officer and the weapon is used on duty, BATF will have a canary. only comes from a recent sit down with BATF on this exact subject and this exact weapon when the Los Angeles Police Department instituted a private purchase program for it's Officers." They made their augument quite clear. Do what you want to do, it's your choice, you're an adult. But don't muddy the waters with your opinion if you're not willing to add a disclaimer or don't intend to represent the person you are advising when he's in Federal Court. Mike
  12. Bunch of the guys have T1's and H1's, work great.
  13. Is that some new sort of Mono-pod to steady your stance (as he winces).
  14. One thing to take into consideraration is no one right now makes an optical sight low enough to cowitness ( see your iron sight thru also) So if you buy something make sure it has a mount that's easily removed so you can access your iron if need be. Slings I easily agree with Duggan, total personal preference but single points put a lot of stress on a heavy weapon. I like the Giles sling, they make it for the M4 with the correct size loops forward and aft. I also add the pad since we have a tendency to carry the weapon for hours. http://store.thewilderness.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_9_16&products_id=47 Mike
  15. Johnny, Am I reading this right? Are you saying that you can put anything on this weapon after it enters the country? If so, Then you may be the one giving the bad info...... Mike
  16. Jeff, talked me into it when I was playing adjunct instructor for him many moons ago, I bought about 200 rds of ammo when I bought the rifle, still have at least 160 left. It's not a rifle you go out and shoot alot! (As he winces!) Mg
  17. Sorry but that is a bunch of in-experienced, Internet talking, I've never seen a gun battle, bunch of wanna-be's. The only quick acquisition they've had is ordering from McDonald's. Let's think about this two ways. First, If you have no warning and the Bad-guy is right there, you're never making it to the closet to get it in the first place. Second, Do you have a plan in place that will affect the entire family, their positions in the house and the escape routes or safe areas they have practiced moving to? Your fields of fire, type of ammunition and lighting both on the gun and off, do you know the distances in your home and where the shotgun patterns at those distance? To name a few. So that being said. Muzzle up or down will not afford you any time difference. Will not allow you to acquire you're target any quicker. In fact you need the time to assess the situation, make sure you're entirely awake and you're family is safe. (more than once people have shot children coming home late or climbing in a window). Rule 3 and 4. Do not allow your muzzle to cover anything you're not willing to shoot and Be sure of you're target. I speak to you with 29 years of LE experience with the second largest Police Department in the US. The number one tactical Department in the LE world. 12 of those years as the Senior Tactical Instructor at the Police Academy. Please don't let some idiot working at who knows where influence your plan when it involves the safety of your family. Sorry about the rant, some friends at Benelli asked me to join this forum, I take that as a compliment. so I'm eager to let loose some practical knowledge. I am always available to PM to answer questions, might take me some time when I'm out on an OP to get back, but I will. Mike
  18. Let me see if this will help answer your question without adding opinion. My test- "Can it to the job consistently and accurately" What is the largest game = Elk .300 Winchester Short Magnum (also known as .300 WSM, commonly pronounced as "Whizzum") is a .308 caliber short magnum cartridge that was introduced in 2001 by Winchester.[1] The cartridge overall length is 72.64mm, cartridge case is 53.34mm in length and the bullet diameter is 7.62 mm (common to all U.S. .30 calibre cartridges). The principle at work in the short magnum cartridge is the advantage of fitting larger volumes of powder in closer proximity to the primer's flash hole, resulting in more uniform, consistent ignition. In field use, this round mirrors the performance of its older counterpart, the .300 winchester magnum, which is based on a modified .375 holland and holland belted magnum casing. The advantages of the newer, shorter round are limited, but worth considering. Most notably, the felt recoil of these rifles is less sharp than the longer, narrower magnums. The wide chamber allows gasses re-entering the bore after the departure of the projectile to decompress slightly before slamming into the inner base of the casing, softening the felt impact. Less important to most rifle shooters is the increase in efficiency of shorter casings, which results in greater inherent accuracy. When addressing this topic, it is useful to consider the true degree of accuracy involved. This degree is fairly minute for most uses, and is primarily important to target shooters, and hunters who rely on a rifle to be capable of extreme long range accuracy. Very few rifle shooters are able to shoot better than their rifles, and as such, this aspect is largely academic. The basic issue at hand is that this cartridge is in a class that is already filled with numerous choices in similarly performing rounds, and has little to distinguish it but nominal increase in accuracy, and lighter felt recoil. The .300 WSM is, however, the most modern .30 caliber cartridge in the magnum class, utilizing the best available knowledge in cartridge design. As such it represents the best combination of ballistic performance, round-to-round consistency, and reduced recoil and muzzle blast. .300 WSM is used in the Western United States for elk, mule deer, and whitetail and on the plains, where long range shooting is a must. Also, although relatively new, the 300 WSM has already had some success in benchrest shooting. As with all high speed large game rounds, bullet construction plays a major role in terminal ballistic performance, and is far too complex to enter in this space. The .270 Winchester Short Magnum or .270 WSM is a short, unbelted, magnum Cartridge (firearms) created by necking down the .300 Winchester Short Magnum and fitting it with a .270 caliber bullet. When it was introduced, the .300 WSM sported a new case that showed a lot of promise for uses in other calibers. In 2002 Winchester introduced new cartridges in its Winchester Short Magnum family, including the 7 mm WSM and .270 WSM. This new .270 cartridge was the third commercial .270 ever produced, and the first one in 60 years. The .270 WSM is an improvement over the older .270 Winchester providing higher velocity with bullets of the same weight, and thus a flatter trajectory and more energy. Velocities tend to be about 250 ft/s (76 m/s) faster, in a cartridge that is shorter and can therefore be used in a shorter action for a more compact rifle if desired. All that said. The two cartridges are identical except for the bullet diameter. So now a choice is made... Choose the caliber that will most likely do the job consistently and accurately. What is the largest game you will take? What caliber fits that consistently. When I took my own test for a Black Bear hunt in the Alaskan wilderness, the possibility of running into other predators was high, my choice ended up being a Steyr Scout in 376 Steyr, that choice turned out very appropriate, but that's another story. 20. Interpretation is the key. My statement of "There are legality issues when placing an extension on your M4. Unless you are LE Officer and the weapon is used on duty, BATF will have a canary." only comes from a recent sit down with BATF on this exact subject and this exact weapon when the Los Angeles Police Department instituted a private purchase program for it's Officers. The Section in question is 922®. Just as Cleefurd gave the informative rundown, I felt that being new here and a LE Officer, it was my obligation to warn someone that "ignorance of the law, is no excuse for it's violation". Something that was repeated over and over by my BATF Brethren Mike
  21. The M4 choke has a tendency to back out a slight bit also, so it's part of the spin-up routine to tighten it down. Never owned a choked shotgun that didn't need it once in awhile. Mg GTPSC - I visited your sight and read up on your chokes and your thoughts on patterning, very well thought out, I'd like to try some for my 686!
  22. I believe we are on the same track. The confusion is over "imported from Benelli" anything imported was my point. Also that it can not be an add-on extension, no matter who makes it... It needs to be a total tube replacement. Further clarification can come from Cleefurd or SocomGuy on which series of parts need to be switched out, Tube/spring/follower or tube/spring. Mike
  23. Ouch, pretty expensive at $329 and no shell holder. Surefire on sale at Optics Planet around $200 Mesa Tactical 8 shot around $90 Mg
