Sadly I haven't fired a single round through it yet. A week after finally giving up waiting on my bolt carrier to arrive from DDLES, it showed up. I had sent all the parts to WMD Guns. So I rushed the bolt to them so it could be coated as well. The lower itself is beautiful, albeit a little heavy for a lower. The machining is excellent and the bolt hold open feature is pretty innovative to work with the Glock magazines. Taking it apart was a little tricky since you need extremely long drive punches to remove the roll pins that hold the magazine release and some of the other components. Someone told me that they had issues with their Super Dynamic 3 Gun trigger with a blow back 9mm design. Hopefully it was a fluke or something wrong with his assembly (he was using the Lone Wolf conversion.) I really hope this isn't an issue with mine since the SD3G can be fired extremely fast. Look up YouTube videos on this trigger. It'll make a Democrat cry. The worst thing about DDLES is how popular they are. It's extremely hard to get one in a reasonable amount of time. Ancillary items like bolts and barrels are a real pain to get ahold of it. For my barrel, I was lucky to get ahold of a BCM 9mm chrome lined 10.5" barrel. I had ADCO profile it down to 0.625", removed the front sight shelf and cut the barrel down to 7.75". I then sent the barrel with the rest of my parts to WMD Guns to be coated in Nitromet. I think the weapon will look pretty cool and match my environment in Burnt Bronze. I have plans to color fill the markings in black lacquer for some added contrast.

How many M4 Models are there - Variances in M4 Builds, etc
StrangerDanger replied to bm4sbs's topic in Benelli
The only time 922® wouldn't apply is if you are using the weapon for law enforcement purposes. Possession of a weapon that isn't 922® isn't illegal, but the construction and transfer of the weapon is. The weapon would be seized however. Showing up with a 11721 to 3 gun games would probably not be allowed unless you swapped out enough US made parts. The 11721's aren't meant to be in lowly civilians' hands. Certain dealers aren't abiding by the rules. -

I'd be guessing, but I'd imagine there are around 40,000 - 75,000 in the US. The majority of which are in civilian hands. The vast majority of which are 11707's. -

On the 11721 model, I refer to the suckers as people buying that model for 2400+ back when the 11707 models typically sold for 1500 - 1600 dollars. People thought they were buying something exceptionally special like if it was made out of mithril. 800 - 900 dollar premiums over a base model isn't worth it for a weapon that isn't 922® compliant for civilian ownership. Essentially you're paying 800 - 900 for a collapsible stock and a steel magazine tube. Then, you'd be forced to hunt down additional aftermarket parts to make it compliant. Now, if you can pick one of these models up for like 2000 dollars, it might be worth considering. Look at this photo. You can see the 11707 through the sticker. -

The exterior dimensions should be similar aside from that seat ring. 4 port barrels are pretty rare and are roughly the dimension of the 2 port barrels on the M1014. My M4 started life as a 11703, I've finally replaced all of that and brought it up to the 11707 standards. -
I can't friggin wait to get my big order back from WMD Guns. They're still sitting on 60 of my parts. The order is pretty complicated. I hope they don't screw anything up. I had ziplock bags marked A - Z with parts in them. These weapons look awesome when they're worn and torn. I won't be safe queening these ones when they're done. From my experience, the Cerakote is extremely tough and doesn't scratch up easily.

My list is by no means definitive. Here is what I know. 11701 or M1014. This is the limited edition model with a flag on the receiver. If I recall, there are 2500 of these in circulation. They originally came with a collapsible stock, but the receiver extension was neutered so the stock will not function properly. The barrel on this model does not have the ring that seats against the receiver. The barrel does not have removable chokes. The barrel has 2 ports. The barrel extension that enters the receiver is slightly different from the more common 11707 and newer models. The flared end is smaller. The barrels are all interchangeable though. The ARGO plugs appear to have a phosphate coating rather than the newer chrome or nickel finish. 11703. This model was released after the success of the M1014. This model came with a fixed pistol grip stock. It also had the same neutered receiver extension as the M1014. The barrel was a controversial 4 port design that battered the **** out of bolt carrier if anything but low recoil rounds were used. Benelli replaced this barrel for users at their request. The barrel came with a removable choke. The same barrel ring profile at the receiver and the flare on the barrel extension inside the receiver as the M1014 was present. The same phosphate coated ARGO plugs as the M1014 were used. 11707. This is the new standard production M4. Benelli installed the proper 3 position receiver extension on this model. It ships with the fixed pistol grip stock. The barrel was changed to the 2 port design. The removable choke was kept. A barrel ring was added to allow the barrel to seat against the receiver. Changes were made to the barrel extension, the flare at the rear is larger. Changes to the anodizing process were made with this model. Most users indicate that the receiver has almost an OD green hue. The ARGO gas plugs now come in either a chrome or nickel finish. 11711. This is the rare H2O model of the M4. I'm told only 60 of these units made it into public circulation before the ATF cried. This model is the same as the 11707, except it comes with a factory full length steel magazine tube and a factory collapsible stock. All the components were coated by Robar in NP3. 11717. This model is the same as the 11707, but it comes in a desert tan finish. 11721. This model is reserved for law enforcement and suckers. This model is identical to the 11707, except it has the collapsible stock and a steel full length magazine tube installed. Often times you can see the 11707 stick beneath the 11721 sticker. 11724. This model is the factory SBS model that comes with the 14" barrel. This unit comes with the factory collapsible stock. The barrel does not have removable chokes. The barrel seat ring and flared barrel extension are present like on the 11707 model. -
Got word today from my painter that my parts are en route back. My customized Benelli M4 handguards are with this group of parts. Here is all the junk I sent them; 1. Aimpoint T1 on an Absolute Co-Witness Mount -- Coat in Burnt Bronze Cerakote. Leave the LaRue throw lever, windage/elevation and power knob black. 2. Aimpoint T1 on a 1/3 Mount -- Coat in Burnt Bronze Cerakote. Leave the LaRue throw lever, windage/elevation and power knob black. 3. LaRue Mount for an Aimpoint 3x Magnifier -- Coat in Burnt Bronze Cerakote. Leave the LaRue throw lever black. 4. Plastic Back plate for a Surefire X300 Ultra (Size of a postage stamp) x2 -- Coat in Burnt Bronze Cerakote. 5. Troy Industries Back Up Iron Sight Base (The sights have been fully disassembled, just the bottom will be sent) x4 -- Coat in Burnt Bronze Cerakote. 6. Troy Industries Back Up Iron Sight Fastener x2 -- Coat in Burnt Bronze Cerakote. 7. Benelli M4 Magazine Cap -- Coat in Graphite Black Cerakote. 8. Benelli M4 Handguards (2 pieces) -- Coat assembly in Graphite Black Cerakote inside and out to cosmetically repair the modifications done to the handguard. Then apply Burnt Bronze Cerakote inside the recessed vertical grip lines. Apply Burnt Bronze Cerakote to the visible portion of the permanently attached light mount. 9. Benelli M4 Handguard Retaining Ring -- Coat in Burnt Bronze Cerakote. 10. Benelli M4 Plastic Pistol Grip Core -- Coat in Burnt Bronze Cerakote. 11. Benelli M4 Collapsible Stock Cheek Rest -- Coat in Graphite Black Cerakote. 12. AR15 PWS Pistol Receiver Extension -- Coat in Burnt Bronze Cerakote. Spray everything except the inside. I sent in all my Benelli M4 plastic parts to be painted so they will match in the end. I ended up having the plastic pistol grip core of the Benelli M4 painted Burnt Bronze. I think it'll look better than black. The handguards, magazine cap and cheek rest of the collapsible stock are being painted in Graphite Black. I found a way to get the foam cheek rest off of my PWS Pistol buffer tube for my 9mm AR15 without destroying it. So I sent it in to get painted in Burnt Bronze. The two tone look should look cool with the black foam over the top of the Burnt Bronze. I sent the bottom portion of the Troy Back Up Iron Sights in to be painted in Burnt Bronze. The flip up portion was left black. The X300's have a plastic spacer that fill between the tail cap switches. I sent them in to be painted in Burnt Bronze for cosmetics. Should get everything on Monday I guess.

I've used the Frog Lube as a base lubricant for a few months now. I mainly use the wax type. I heat the bucket with my heatgun for a few seconds to liquify the lubricant. I then paint the parts with the brush. The parts are allowed to dry/cool down. I then heat the parts again with the heat gun to liquify the lubricant and allow it to soak down into the areas I normally cannot reach. I then wipe away the excess. I still use additional lubricants along with the Frog Lube. I tend to still use grease in certain areas like sear contact points and metal on metal moving contact points. I find the Frog Lube to be excellent for coating springs and acting as a basic protection layer from rust. This is good enough for out here in Arizona with very low humidity levels.

FROG LUBE - IMPORTANT question about lubing pistons on Benelli M4
StrangerDanger replied to forzArmata's topic in Benelli
I don't believe WMD Guns does anodizing. It isn't listed in their shop services at least. WMD is doing part of my order in Burnt Bronze Cerakote. Sounds like you've got a project going! I've heard others have used US Anodizing with great results. You'll have to contact them to get a price for whatever you want to have done. http://www.usanodizing.com/pricing.htm As for the value of the coatings, it is mostly about easy clean up. Carbon simply wipes off of NP3 or Nickel Boron. -

Wow. Looks great. 80 bucks is a bit steep though. WMD's Nickel Boron is much cheaper on such a small part. I don't have an exact price, but it is probably under 50 bucks to do both. Probably more like 30. -
Looks happier than our friend from the religion of peace with a Michellin print over his face.

In the past, others who have done these mag tubes on the tan camo versions did not have trouble when using a heat gun. I would focus the heat of the gun on the mag tube and allow the heat to saturate to the threaded area. I would not use a torch.

carriercomp lead times on tubes, anyone get theirs?
StrangerDanger replied to Jdkarmy's topic in Benelli
Kip has a few employees. I don't know how many or what kind of equipment he's running. He's a stickler for quality control, so it is hard to train people on a lathe up to his standards. The sheer numbers of tubes ordered is causing most of the delays. They stopped accepting orders due to delays from the company supplying titanium tube stock. -
I think I wrote to this guy a few days ago giving them a friendly heads up on 922® compliance. The email was ignored.

If you bid the price up too close to the BIN, that option goes away. The buyer has quite a few sales, so I doubt it is a burn account. This isn't a new issue with chumpbroker. I've sold many weapons there for far more than their worth. To the point that I thought the buyer was a scam of some sorts. Like 2400 dollars for a regular PS-90 when there were brand new ones for 1500 right below it. Or 3000 for a FN Five Seven last month. If the sale is legit, congratulations to him for making a 350% mark up.

Benelli M4 -- Receiver Extension Removal/Reinstallation Guide
StrangerDanger replied to StrangerDanger's topic in Benelli
Any suggestions on higher output heatguns? Even my Mickey Mouse Wagner brand cheapo heat gun claims it operates between 750 - 1000 degrees. Dental picks work well, just wear eye protection. The locktite breaks out at high velocity. Since having a tap that size on hand would likely be rather cost prohibitive, picking is the method of choice. Even stainless brushes are mostly useless. -
Benelli M4 -- Receiver Extension Removal/Reinstallation Guide
StrangerDanger replied to StrangerDanger's topic in Benelli
I found the new red locktite bonded better to the aluminum than the old green stuff did. I spent half an hour with a dental pick chipping the new locktite out. On the older tubes I've done with green locktite, almost all of the locktite came out on the magazine tube or was pulverized into powder. I'll be stepping up to a bigger heat gun I guess. I don't want to mess with a torch. An IR thermometer would be a nice addition. -
Benelli M4 -- Receiver Extension Removal/Reinstallation Guide
StrangerDanger replied to StrangerDanger's topic in Benelli
Had a brand new 11707 M4 kick my ass today. I roasted the receiver extension for 2 and a half hours with my heat gun. Didn't budge a millimeter. The lock nut wouldn't even break free. I think Benelli is using a different type of locktite now. I'm probably going to have to double down and get a better heat gun that can reach a higher temp. Even the magazine tube was held on by a different type of locktite. The new thread locker is a reddish color. -

StrangerDanger replied to Jdkarmy's topic in Benelli
Just to pass along some news regarding carriercomp wait times. According to their Facebook, they have stopped taking orders for magazine tubes and are trying to catch up with the back log. We're looking at an additional 3-4 months of wait time due to the massive demand. So orders placed in February won't likely ship until July/August.
