  1. Hornady SST baby all the way!
  2. Just seeing what you guys find most effective in your areas. I do both depending on the weather..for whatever reason when its raining I can always find a bunch moving in the fields, so during that time I move in on them. I think that the rain muffles my approach and limits their visibility. Whatever the case, let me know how you guys like getting your birds since the seasons right around the corner! Don't forget to mention your favorite calls and tactics, cause we all like to know what other hunters are doing.
  3. October 17th to the 23rd they opened up a shotgun season on Turkeys in our district because we have so many...its usually bow only in the fall. This time around I'm going to use my new ground blind a couple decoys and a different setup. I'm going to be using my Carlson Crio choke .665 on my SuperNova and get one of the giant Toms that I keep seeing up on my family's land. I'll post the results of the hunt, right now we have a flock of over 100 turkeys on our 600 acres! We really need some game management done so GAME ON!
  4. I hear you but it was closing day, sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. My pattern tests the day before were consistent enough for me to make a confident shot with that setup. Maybe it was chance, who knows maybe I scared it to death. haha
  5. You guys know it only takes one pellet to the head to make a kill right?
  6. I know the difference, it was the choke that was in the gun, pattern testing and good aim was what made my kill successful. At 40 yards (standard pattern testing distance on a 30" circle) your talking about around 65% of the shot hitting the mark and your questioning the odds of hitting a turkey at 60 yards with an IM choke? You DONT need a full choke for that distance, it dosnt hurt but I used what I had at the time that I felt confident with.
  7. Getting the job done right means getting (killing) your game (whatever it may be- in this case its turkeys) when I said dark cloud i meant black cloud which was wrong, i meant to say heavi-shot, which claims to be denser than steel and better than lead...but that's for you to decide.
  8. I was using Federal 3" magnum turkey with an improved modified choke. Turkey and buckshot loads tend to have a solid central pattern and hold well out to farther distances plus I had done pattern tests the day before with that ammo. Just to clarify the ammo was $9 for 10 rounds, I checked when I got home last night, it was from the strut-shock line.
  9. Yeah I shoot both kinds of slugs out of my smooth barrel SuperNova and get fine results.
  10. Black Cloud I'm sure wants you to only shoot their ammo, Do what TMAC suggested and shoot a board.
  11. kill those tree rats all you want, I dont care.
  12. This is the ugliest website I have ever seen and its selling the most expensive Turkey ammo ever sold! I wouldn't EVER pay that much to kill a bird! I smashed a tom at 60 yards with a 3" mag shot this spring that cost me $12 for 25 rounds. This ammo suggested is for those who just cant get the job done right. You want some heavier than lead ammo get some Dark Cloud (which in my opinion is overpriced too).
  13. So I'm not alone in this request. How do you find the .338 Federal cartridge to perform from short, mid, and long range distances?

    Youth Models

I prefer the SuperNova but the Nova is very similar and I also have the 870 express. My 870 has a 2" longer barrel and feels lighter, maybe its the balance. If I were you I would bring her to the gun shop and have here shoulder both guns and see the different colors available and see what fits her best and which she prefers. Unless this gift is a surprise she would be much happier with the gun she picks out and it will be a much more bonding experience. Both the 870 express magnum and the Nova retail for about the same price so your call will have to be based on preferences. I would recommend stepping it up to the SuperNova ans 870 Wingmaster for choices if you really want to keep her interested, but the models you chose are great guns too! Best of luck.
  15. No prob, anytime. Best of luck
  16. Duggan I quoted this one because the pic is great. I never said Obama is responsible for this old act, just brought it back to the table. Im def not saying that since your from NY you dont know ****, I love NY. Come up here and I will personally treat you to some good hunting and we can talk guns/ammo/whatever. I have a 600 acre lot of land and plenty of game. our season starts Oct 1st on migratory bird which would be great for your M4, we can put all this behind us and talk politics if you want. i was just forwarding an email sent to me by a good friend who is a police officer that I felt was good knowledge and not malicious. The Offer stands if you want otherwise I will end my posts on this thread, no hard feelings, you do know your **** through experience and I appreciate your response. Let me know, its 6 hours from manhattan to my doorstep..Best of luck and if you choose to come, bring all your guns, we have a huge collection ourselves and we can have a lot of fun. PS this is just to bary the hatchet along with mutual respect for our love for guns.. Peace
  17. HAHA..Your funny that's why your cool. We should do some shooting some day. I do about the same with my Benelli as far as shooting clays, and slugs depends on the day I'm out. I also shoot a lot out of my .257 roberts ackley improved and my S&W MP 45. Your good ****, I def did use your link..hahaha
  18. Duggan although a senior member has a gun in NY and doesn't shoot as much as I do- I would put a million on it, so if you want to only believe the posts that come from people based on how long they've been part of this forum and not those who have actual experience than that's your choice. Getting mad is a weakness, I'm just playing around with him like he does with everyone else. Funny that even you are recommending the Hornady SST slugs I've been using and recommending, yet sharing an ACT with the community has little interest to you. P.S. Why would you take a post like this from Duggan seriously and not from another active member of these forums? Duggan is not an authority on anything that I have seen thus far so trust his internet knowledge, thought we were all here to help.
  19. That's a good suggestion but always remember that used parts comes with a history. Best of luck on your rifled barrel and have a great hunting season!
  20. Here is a link to Ables, I only did a quick search but I'm sure you can find them on other sites, but here is the link to this rifled barrel for $415.00: http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=104171 The price is why a lot of these guys say its almost worth buying a new gun because the Benelli barrels are crazy expensive.
  21. By the way Duggan how is anything I've posted been "misinformation". You posted a link to an outline of the Act itself. And what is your "cause" because all I see you do is mess with noobs on this site and post pictures that although sometimes funny are just plain mean to the people who don't share your views. And just for clarification on your great knowledge on Benellis or guns in general why don't you share with us all how you became such an expert and how many times you've shot your gun or any gun for that matter. Your just a kid with an M4, no field experience of any kind as far as we can tell. I'm pretty sure your a gun range guy, but I could be wrong so please share so we can all take your advice more seriously. Thanks
  22. With your knowledge in politics do you know who Cass Sunstein is and his new position in our government? Let me know how his ideals and the new position he holds could threaten our rights with guns/hunting/and internet forums. After your research tell me how the HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act is not a threat. In your research you may want to see what a Czar has the authority to do and what they are exempt from by law. P.S. knowledge is power, hit those books. How is underwater basket weaving going for you as a major anyways?
  23. You got that right.
  24. Hey Duggan look up the skys falling. Keep up the good work with the donations, let me know when you give so much that they wont stop calling your house. Man do you just regurgitate all your answers from info found on the internet? By the way with your knowledge of ammo you should know not to offer sending any to Massachusetts, come on you know better than that - plus you were offering it to SgtCathy from Cape Cod who is "RETIRED FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT". Dont worry Duggan I wont post any more legal issues on the Benelli USA Forum Site, I mean why would anyone especially a gun owner want to know about this bullsheet anyways? Your always so right thats why I like you so much- your knowledge on everything no matter the subject matter always amazes me.
  25. Dosnt the 11707 take care of all the legal issues because it was made after the assault weapon ban ended in 1994? I'm way out of my element here but there must be real strict laws where you guys live...Dont you guys have some rural areas and friends in the sticks or do you guys shoot indoors or at ranges only?
