Ive seen the results of a .40 cal that went off into a closet of a house, it bounced all around the closet before going down into the floor, we went down stairs and it dragged down one wall before exiting. You never know what is going to happen so be careful! Even a veteran can make a stupid mistake, you see it in the news all the time with cops shooting themselves while holstering the gun- no thanks to the Glock and its "trigger safety". There is little ammo in most areas, thats where reloading comes in great. As far as the .338 Federal cartridge is concerned its still being used in many guns, especially those set up on the ar15 platform for close to mid range even though the caliber is a great hunting cartridge with great ballistics capable of much farther ranges than those set up for the ar15. Just thought it would make an interesting cartridge for this great gun.

Whos getting the fever? October 1st for us here in Maine and I'm counting down the days. Cant wait to use our German Shorthair Pointer on some woodcock and partridge....were already running her at an outfitter to keep her in practice with quail and pheasant. Def cool looking, but like the others said thats one heavy gun at the front. Wouldnt want to be waving that around anywhere.

Come on, can anyone talk about something other than an M2 or M4 in just one Thread? Benelli is a GREAT company that has many topics to be covered, lets not limit ourselves to two products, get out of your comfort zone and let me know what you think about this gun used by Olympians. It comes in multiple calibers and features the highest degree of accuracy and is worth talking about. No offense to the M2 or M4, so no negative feedback please, I love those guns too!

Good advice, but once that scope goes on there you can forget about bird hunting.

I see a lot of you shoot handguns as well as shotguns and I was wondering if any of you have tried any of the Benelli handguns for competition shooting and or fun? It feels real nice in my hands and is quite a unique gun.

The looks just add to this great ammo. I get great patterns and love its performance. If I was going to recommend ammo on looks I would have suggested Remington's Premier® AccuTip Bonded Sabot Slug, but I haven't tried them so I cant tell you how well they perform. The barrels are expensive, and your right it would be worth getting a new gun for that price but you can still shoot slugs out of a smooth bore, just without the precision of a rifled slug barrel.

You could try a rifled choke but I feel that they don't help too much. You should pick up a rifled barrel for your SuperNova, they are expensive but if you dont like doing things half assed that is the place to start and you can get them anywhere. What is happening so you fully understand is that the barrel will have a twist inside that causes the bullet to spiral which gives you much better accuracy. With a rifle it is common to see a 1:10 twist which means that every 10 inches you get a full twist. So with a rifled choke you wont get much twisting because they are only about 2-4 inches long, hence the poor results. As for slugs I always reccomend Hornady SST slugs. 2000 fps and a whole lot of nasty. Everything about the slug is cool, check them out in your local store. I bet you the second you look at one you will buy them. They are consistently accurate and are made for 200 yard shots, which is where a rifled barrel and a scope comes into play. Yeah 3 clays is harder for sure and I see where your coming from. I enjoy my SuperNova better than my brother's 887 too. But I was shooting doubles last weekend no problem but than again for us avid shooters who have had the opportunity to get out there a lot since we were kids we tend to not miss that often. You have made some good points but I still think he should consider all options and where he loved his Remington I was just telling him about a new one that I thought was pretty cool.
