Ported or not Ported depends on the ammo you intend to use. I had horrible results with Federal Ammo that uses the FLITECONTROL® wad with a ported choke. Extended choke tubes would give you more length but it all depends on the constriction for patterns. You will want a pretty open choke for dove and I'm guessing you were shooting clays over the weekend. I cant recommend the Patternmaster Extended chokes because I do not own one, but it is designed to have a tight pattern and for use with 3.5" ammo, so from what you have described as your intended use of your shotgun I think you might want to consider a different choke that is more open. What were the actual problems or dislikes you had using your 24" barrel?

My Carlson's rifled choke is in the mail and I cant wait to get it, should be here any day. I am going to be hunting black bear with it this weekend, and will be using Brenneke Black Magic 600 gr slugs. These slugs work out of a smooth bore or a rifled barrel. If your going to be hunting deer, those Hornady SST slugs should work great for you, what was their reason for the SSTs to not work out of the Carlson's rifled choke? It will be fine, do some pattern testing. Another slug you could use with the choke are the Brenneke Gold Magnums, I have not tried the AccuTips yet but I have some friends that go nuts over them. Let me know how your pattern tests go and I will let you know how the Gold Magnums pattern on my SuperNova with the Carlson's rifled choke. From what I have read all sabot slugs will work out of a rifled barrel (preferred for long distance shots) or a rifled choke (not as accurate as the fully rifled barrel but allows you to use the sabots). From what I have read the barrels are interchangeable so that the shooter can change calibers. The barrels are crazy expensive just like everything Benelli (Around $700!) I will look around for a 308. 30-06 for you since you can get the 300. They should have them up here in Maine because those are very popular calibers and I would love a 300 wsm, let me just check on the prices for you. Talk soon

Your modified choke will work fine but as the others said it will have a slightly tighter pattern. Good Luck.

With your rifled barrel hunting deer I would recommend Hornady SST (my favorite for deer slugs)http://www.hornady.com/story.php?s=148, Brenekne Gold Magnum 3"(accurate and deadly take down within 100 yrds)http://www.brennekeusa.com/startlink.html, and the Remington Premier® AccuTip Bonded Sabot Slug(I haven't used them but my friends love them)http://www.remington.com/products/ammunition/shotshell/slugs/accuTip_bonded_sabot_slug.asp. Test them out and see which gives you the best reslults. For your smooth bore hunting deer I would use Federal Premium Vital-Shok 00 buck and 000 buck for thick brush and heavy wooded areas, although going with smaller buckshot would also do the trick. For Dove I would use your favorite ammo brand in #8 with a really open choke. Ask Trapshooter1 because he knows more about this than I do because I don't hunt them, I'm a Woodcock, Partridge, Quail, and Pheasant guy. For Duck you may want to refer to the waterfowl section of the Benelli Forum because there has been debate over a lot of the rounds. A really good load that works great out of my Dad's SBE and all our other 12Ga shotguns are Nitro Mag® Buffered Magnum Loads. Thanks for the tip Trapshooter1. I never saw anywhere on the box and web reviews or even thought that the ported choke would distort the wad that much. Any reccomendations for a choke that would work better for the Heavy Weight Mag Turkey rounds for anyone who is interested (Brand/Model)? I think I'm going to stick with the Winchester Supreme Turkey #6 loads on my setup because the results were amazing shot after shot. I will post some more pics up from 10 to 60 yards because they are about $12-$14 per box of 10, which is half the cost for twice as many rounds....I really enjoy Federal rounds but I'm going to go with what ammo I'm getting the best results with on my setup. We got a hit on my buddy's bait site, turns out its a sow with cubs. Glad its not on my site because that would be it, unless a big boar comes in because what I hear is that no small or juvenile male bears will come in with a sow and cubs on a site. We already made an agreement that no one takes a sow with cubs or cubs...because that is our future of bear hunting and in my opinion its just not right....too bad for my hunting buddy and the cubs, going to check/refill my bait, hoping to see some good sign. Unloading a barrel of grease and a barrel of bread/donuts tomorrow at my site. Let you guys know the outcome...its officially bear season!!!!!!!Finally!!!!!!!! Who knows, I might get one on the walk out !

I was not impressed at all with the $27.99 for 5 round box of the Federal Premium Heavy weight #5. The best results were with Winchester Supreme High Velocity Turkey #6 loads but here are the results. This is from a SuperNova with a Carlson's Ported .665 Turkey Choke. You may get different results from different guns and chokes but this is what I got. I will continue testing and update the links to Photos when I get on my computer that has all my programs. Got it to a 2 inch group at a little over 100 yards. Still a lot of testing to be done before bear, turkey, and deer seasons but I will keep updating as I go. My SuperNova is very smooth, I would reccomend shooting at least 100 rounds at clays like you said when you go out and when you get home take it apart clean and oil it again. You should notice quite a bit of difference even though 100 rounds isnt that much but the use will help break it in. Remember this gun was built like a tank so it has a lot different feel than other shotguns (at least some I have shot) but once you get used to it I think your perspective will change. The only thing that pisses me off about the SuperNova is the slight rattle that occurs from the wiggle of the pump but that's pretty minor, and its all worth it knowing you can throw it around and drag it through **** and back without any worries. I'm going to pick up a Carlson' rifled choke because I have enjoyed their products but would really like to know if any of you have tried any others for the SuperNova.
