  1. I was going to be using my brothers 7mm mag but I'm going to be in a blind I set up on bait at about 25 yards so after doing some research I decided that the 7mm mag is not going to be optimal for that close of a shot, not to say it cant be done, plus I want to use slugs out of my SuperNova. I have a line up of slugs that I want to use and was wondering if any of you had recommendations on any of these slugs listed below. Please give advice on performance that you have had with them so I don't go crazy trying to find the best slug for black bear at 25 yards. Thanks. 1. Winchester Supreme Parition Gold 400 gr Platinum Tip 2. Brenneke Black Magic Magnum 3" 1-3/8 oz 3. Remington Core-Lokt Ultra Sabot 50 Caliber 385 gr 4. Hornady SST 300 gr (One that I already love for deer but not sure if its a good choice for bear) 5. Remington AccuTip Bonded Sabot 3" 385 gr
  2. Can anyone send me a link or list off all of the available red dot sights for the SuperNova? It would be greatly appreciated because all I can find is the Burris Speed Bead Red Dot Sight. I want options, they have to be out there...I hope. Looking for an inexpensive one because I already have a red dot sight on my 870 but I want to put one on my SuperNova (temporarily) for my upcoming black bear hunt just to get a big game animal under its belt. Thanks in advance.
  3. Season on Bear opens August 31st here so next Monday will be the start of what I hope to be a great Maine Black Bear hunt. Anyone else excited about bear hunting this fall?
  4. That's going to be one heck of a hunt. A wolf must be able to wind you so easily. I haven't looked into wolf hunting tactics, is it similar to coyote hunting?
  5. Over 50 Birds from morning and afternoon limit 10 a day......
  6. Nice caribou Steve, cant wait to hear how your next Dall Sheep hunt goes. I love your hunting stories. Good Luck and be safe, and don't forget the second sleeping bag:D
  7. Ran our German Shorthair Pointer yesterday on quail at an upland game ranch to get her ready for the upcoming season. We will be doing it again on Thursday. She is dead on...I freaking love our dog. Anyone else getting their dogs warmed up for hunting?
  8. Cant tell you if its shockproof or not but at $130 and having all the features you are looking for with great reviews sounds like a sure thing. I would go for it.
  9. So you and 5 friends were out. Must have been fun.
  10. I will be pattern testing the Federal Premium Mag-Shok HEAVYWEIGHT Turkey #7 next week through my SuperNova with a Carlson .665 choke. I will let you guys know the results. They advertise that the #7s match the density of the #5s at 40 yards.
  11. Enjoy your dinner:D
  12. Longer sighting plane was all I was trying to say, not that the gun itself would be more accurate due to its barrel length.
  13. I would go with a 26" barrel because I find them to be more accurate and also even though there is controversy over the topic of todays fast buring powders a longer barrel will get the most out of the ammo that you use. Also the extra weight should reduce your recoil and allow you to get back on the next bird. Good Luck
  14. Thanks for the link NovaKing and thanks for your hands on advice stid2677. I'm def excited and I'm doing the hunt from a ground blind, the neck did seem like a shot I didn't feel comfortable taking considering the dangers of hunting bear. THANKS!
  15. Hello stid2677, where is the best place to hit a bear? I thought I would ask you because you are an expert. I wanted to go for a lung heart hit but the guy who is teaching me how to hunt bears wants me to take a neck shot so I don't ruin as much meat. Where should I hit? Thanks in advance.
  16. They don't make it. Custom or nothing at the moment.
  17. Great Advice on keeping your head on the stock, I find it to be one of the best tips for shooting. Cheeking the stock is a must.
  18. If money is not an option you could always buy the rifled barrel and bring it to a gunsmith and have it cut down to size (which will hinder the rifling and make sure it is within your state's regulations on barrel size) and have the ghost ring sights attached. It would be one of the most expensive Nova barrels out there but you would have what you want.
  19. Check out this price guide for 2008 from Fratelli Rizzini. Scroll down to the optional 410s and such. Crazy Town. http://www.williamlarkinmoore.com/prices.html
  20. Here is a general idea of their cost if you can get your hands on them. I don't know how accurate these prices are and they did not list the R1 because it was the 2009 shotgun lineup. http://www.shootingsportsman.com/node/4418
  21. Are you going to get any of these bad boys? http://www.benelliworldclass.com/bimillionaire/ http://www.benelliworldclass.com/curator/ http://www.benelliworldclass.com/r1_limited/ Or anything else from this damn cool website.... http://www.benelliworldclass.com/
  22. Shooting with both eyes open is a def. must! Good Call.
  23. Heck no, that's why I have a dedicated shotgun with a red dot sight and my SuperNova for Clays, Birds, etc. I tried shooting some clays for fun with the red dot sight on the 870 and it was nearly impossible, but still fun to try.
  24. I love the idea of a rifle scope on a shotgun that is dedicated to being a slug gun with a full rifled barrel but I would suggest checking out red dot sights for your SuperNova. They are not too expensive and although you are looking for some zoom (which they dont have) the dot does represent a 3" area @ 100 yrds or better (depending on the red dot sight). I really enjoyed the TruGlo I put on my Rem 870. Dead on @ 100 yrds, Perfect for what I was doing. I have only done minor research on the red dots available for the SuperNova but wasnt interested, I mean if I need one I have a setup on the 870 and it totally killed shooting clays and birds so I said f it.
  25. I def agree that stalking can be tricky cause those birds have great vision. How do you guys change your tactics between the spring and fall seasons? During the spring when they are mating those calls and decoys really bring them in but do you find that different approaches are better suited in the fall? I still set out a couple decoys in the fall to trick the birds into the area being safe but not so much to bring the Toms in to fight. Any products that you guys feel cant be left at home in the fall?
